CS SoftDent software strongly adheres to compliance with MICROSOFT WINDOWS operating systems and hardware compatibility. Only
operating systems and hardware listed below have been fully tested and certified on SoftDent software. System Requirements are
updated regularly. Before purchasing any equipment, please review the latest requirements located at

Auto-Dialer
A 56K external modem is required on each workstation using the Auto-Dialer.
Backing Up SoftDent
Software and Data
It is your responsibility to back up your data daily. In the event of data corruption, fire, theft or loss your backup may be the only way to
restore your office records. Use a Windows-compatible backup system capable of backing up SoftDent software, data and images.
Consult with your hardware representative or technical service provider to ensure that your data backup system is adequate, thoroughly
tested, and guaranteed to function correctly.

Real Time Services
E- Payment Services
High-speed broadband internet connection (recommended) and Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, or a 56K external modem are required
for e-claim, e-statement and e-payment services. E-payment service does not support modem connectivity in a Windows Terminal
Services (WTS) environment. If using a modem one is required at each workstation performing electronic data transmissions and
dedicated phone lines are recommended.
Real time services requires a high-speed broadband internet connection.
MagTek (USB or Serial) or Scan Technologies (PS/2) credit card reader for e-payment service available only from Carestream Dental.
An optional original Apple iPad with iOS 4.0 or higher is supported for form completion and signature capture.
An optional Topaz Systems SignatureGem LCD 4x3(model T-LBK755-BHS-R) SignatureGem Backlit or LCD 1x5(model T-LBK462HSB-R) is supported for signature capture.
eForms does not support connections to multiple databases or multiple practice management systems. Windows Tablet PCs are also
not currently supported.

MAPI-compatible email client must be installed and configured on each workstation used to send email. Microsoft Office Outlook
2003, 2007, 2009, or 2013 is recommended.

SOFTDENT Software
To avoid repetitive warning messages from Windows Mail when using the bulk email feature, open Windows Mail>
Tools > Options> Security. Uncheck “Warn me when other applications try to send mail as me.”
The 64-bit version of any Microsoft Office product (including Microsoft Outlook) is not supported.

SOFTDENT Voice Activation
Module
Any audio card compatible with your operating system. Choose a wired close-talk headset computer microphone recommended for
speech recognition such as the Andrea Electronics NC-7100 USB or ANC-700. It should have a long, flexible noise-canceling
microphone that can be positioned directly in front of your mouth. Limit background noise. Volume control and a mute button are an
added convenience.

Any TWAIN compliant scanner with a full-sized transparency adapter. The EPSON Perfection v700 PHOTO is recommended for image
scanning and has been tested with Windows OS. Contact the manufacturer for information on print drivers compatible with your
operating system.
Web Updates
High-speed broadband internet connection.
Internet Explorer 7.0 or better.
Web Updates enables you to update your software version over the internet without the need for a CD.
Go to the SoftDent software main window and select from the menu Help > Check for Updates
Fingerprint Device
Required only if using the Fingerprint feature. Please contact your Sales representative for specifics.
Microsoft Office integration
Letter Expert requires Microsoft Word.
Powercase requires Microsoft Powerpoint
Printing a report to Excel requires Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Office 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013 are supported. Microsoft Office should be installed and registered with the latest updates
available from Microsoft.
The 64-bit version of any Microsoft Office product is not supported.

• A dedicated server that is not used as a workstation is strongly recommended.
• In general, performance can be improved by doing any or all of the following: increasing the amount of memory (RAM) on a workstation or server; replacing the
hard drive with a newer, larger, faster model; upgrading the CPU to a faster speed.
• Disk compression or other utilities should not be used.
• Perform a nightly backup on removable media and keep that media in a fireproof safe off-site.

Wireless networks are generally not recommended due to the physical structure of dental offices; however eForms and kiosks may perform
satisfactorily in a wireless environment.
3. Operating Systems
Before installing any operating system in your practice, please check the system requirements for all software and hardware devices used by your office for
compatibility.
a. Small Business Server
Windows Small Business Server editions are not supported
b. Windows 7 Editions
Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Enterprise, and Windows 7 Ultimate editions are supported. Review system requirements on the Windows 7
website for the edition you plan to purchase. Non-core Windows 7 features available with the Ultimate editions are not necessary to run SoftDent
software and may require hardware that exceeds our workstation and clinical workstation requirements.
Contact your hardware vendor for compatibility with third party peripherals. Other integrated software products may or may not be compatible with
these operating systems including those manufactured by Carestream Dental. Please reference the system requirements for those products.

Windows 7 Recommended Settings
• User Account Control (UAC) should remain on. SoftDent software v14.0 and newer is fully Windows 7-compatible and can be run by a Standard
User.
• Change the power plan setting for Put computer to sleep to ‘Never’. Network connections are lost if SoftDent software is running when the PC goes
into sleep power mode after a period of inactivity.

• Microsoft .NET 3.5SP1 must be installed prior to the installation of the SoftDent software.
• Windows 8.1 has been certified for use with SoftDent.

• HouseCalls™ - Televox ®: HouseCalls ASP operating system requirements can be obtained from Televox. Data transfer methods from SoftDent software to the
HouseCalls ASP service include: HTTPS Post, FTP, SSH, TVWebPost or file upload. HouseCalls version 7.5 or earlier is not compatible. Please contact Televox
www.televox.com/support for further information.
• These products integrate successfully: Televox ® T.Link, CareCredit version 4.3, Trojan Benefit Service and Managed Care Updates, printing to Moore Wallace
Forms using supported printers.
• Contact the vendor for the current compatibility status of these products and recheck this document for SoftDent software integration readiness: MedVisor, NEA
FastAttach.
• Amazing Charts may require more resources than SoftDent to function properly. Amazing Charts users should visit http://amazingcharts.com/support when
