To be at the cutting edge of innovation, FDI MATELEC invests each year in its design and technical
department.
The result is a team of 20 technicians and engineers divided into 3 skills areas :
• the hardware department developping the electronic boards,
• the embedded software department that creates the management applications of the electronic
boards,
• the PC department developping softwares that will be the interface between the user and the
hardware.

All developments include a comprehensive study to reduce the product’s impact on the environment
throughout its life cycle. The products are designed to facilitate and simplify the ergonomic use by
clients (installer, user ...).
Finally, to ensure the best performance, a team of 4 technicians, separated from the design and
technical department, is dedicated to the validation of new products or main changes. Each element
must successfully pass the functional test plans to validate its full operation and reliability for commercialization (controller, software ...).

FDI’s production
A team of 35 persons works in FDIs production factory of 2500 sqm.
The site is equipped with high-technology machines :
• 1 soldering paste print machine DEK ELA Horizon,
• 1chip shooter MYDATA MY100DX latest generation of 32 000 components per hour,
• 1 SOLTEC soldering oven 8 zones for soldering and polymerization of glue,
• 1 automatic optical inspection machine ISP (automatic optical control of components by
comparing image)
• 1 3D X-ray inspection machine (for the control of BGA)

The entire installation allows a capacity up to boxes of 0.1 mm sized on 0.05mm BGA 0.4mm
pitch, the measuring value of discrete components, video analysis, traceability of components
on the boards and automated tests.
FDI MATELEC’s manufacturing process is consistent with the ROHS Directive regarding the
elimination of lead into tin solder.
This way, FDI MATELEC can produce more than 1.2 million RFID keys and HF remote, 26000
controllers, 44000 HF readers and RFID receivers and more than 8000 intercom panels per
year.

The actions focused initially on product quality, FDI then extended its objectives to a system of quality
management of all its activities based on the principle of continuous improvement.
The customer is the center of FDI’s organization and all actions aim at maintaining a maximum level

CHOOSING YOUR ACCESS CONTROL...
What is the access control ?
Access control allows or refuses the access to a person or group of people in order to improve the safety of a building.
When a key is presented to the reader, the reader sends the information (usually a serial number) to a controller.
The controller compares the received information with its data, allows or refuses the access and sends information to its database.
When access is refused, the door remains closed.
When access is granted, the controller activates a relay that opens the door.
Why using electronic access control ?
In the case of a conventional lock, when a key is lost, you must replace the cylinder lock plus any other key to ensure that no unauWKRUL]HGSHUVRQFDQXVHWKLVGRRUDJDLQ,QDGGLWLRQWKHVHNH\VFDQEHFRSLHGLQGH½QLWHO\

Secondly, electronic keys cannot be copied. Safety is increased.
3 POSSIBILITIES TO MANAGE YOUR ACCESS CONTROL :
. Standalone management
Standalone management is carried out on site.
It means being physically near the keypad or the controller to program it. This type of management is preferred when the system
requires few intervention or when a person is present on site and able to make these changes, a caretaker for instance.
A keypad is programmed by a master code and does not require to be disassembled to be set. The programmed secret code can
have from 3 to 8 terms and can be changed as often as desired by using the master code. The keypad is the simplest and most
economic access control solution.
Programming a standalone controller does not need any tool whereas a controller requires a central programming terminal or a
software installed on a computer.
It has at least a programming mean (switch and/or master key) and has often a keypad and a display.

Generally, keypads and standalone controllers
are preferred for small installations.
In traditional access systems, each electronic key has
a unique electronic serial number allowed or not into
controllers.

This technology enables remote management while providing more opportunities than standalone management settings.
The manager can manage its badges from home without moving to the controller.

The software can be installed on a PC or be a web-based software accessible from anywhere with a login and password.
When a key is presented to a reader, the controller read permissions inside the key, authorizes it or not, and updates its own
memory. It is no longer necessary to go to the site to add a key, and a key can also be removed from a controller to prevent

We talk about on line management when programming keys is performed offsite in real time.
From one place, the user manages access to an unlimited number of buildings, connecting to sites via modem or TCP/IP.
As soon as the user enters new settings in his software, controllers are updated. Controllers are able to pull up information
on the computer in real time. For example, a door kept open will activate a popup on the PC screen.

Vitwo RO is a controller for 4 doors. It works with proximity readers and receivers in RF. Programming is done at the front
of the controller, by the handheld terminal via the reader or by the software Memosoft (via a removable back-up memory).
Vitwo can manage up to 5000 keys or remote controls . It controls also up to 30000 events on keys or remote controls,
intercom and push buttons.

Wiegand is a standard protocol. Wiegand readers are compatible with most of access control systems
that accepts 30 bits. They are used with FDI keys. FDI can develop upon request readers in 26 bits, 32 bits,

FDI Wiegand readers make the site administration easier with a unique key solution. Using the RF
receiver to allow vehicles access to a car park, it is possible to use the remote dual-technology FDI with
its built-in proximity tag to use with proximity readers.
Wiegand receivers need to be connected to controllers that are compatible with Wiegand protocol. The
serial number of the remote must be entered only once into the controller.
