Compact Disc Player / AM-FM Tuner
RCD-020-x (-40x)
Product Description
The RCD-020-x (-40x) is a high quality AM-FM compact disc
player. This unit allows complete control of track selection and can
be mounted in a cabinet or bulkhead. The “x” suffix denotes the
specific model number.
This source equipment can be optionally controlled by
infrared remote control. A unique strapping feature allows up to
four similar devices to be used in the same system at the same
time while maintaining independent control. This system is fully
compatible with AI’s proprietary RS-485 digital data bus systems.

Standard configuration requires no infrared strap pins to be
connected. Each different type of AI source equipment can
be configured to accept one of four different sets of infrared
codes. To change the code settings, connect one of the strap
pins to the strap common (never connect more than 1 strap
pin to the strap common). Three strap pins are available to
allow the infrared codes to be configured.
A flying lead BNC connector provides antenna high and
antenna shield connections of the unit.
6.
Insure that all audio input and output cables use twisted,
shielded pair and that each one is properly grounded. A
minimum 24 gauge wiring is recommended.
A minimum of 5.0 inches clearance is required in front of the
CD slot. When the CD is ejected, it will project approximately
2.25 inches.
Select a mounting location where 28 VDC power, video and
audio signal has been previously installed. Long low-level
runs may introduce noise into the audio signal. The units
must be mounted in a horizontal position (not on side).
Locate the unit to allow easy output level adjustments.
All headphone amplifiers and line level amplifiers should be
located no more than three feet away from source equipment.
Avoid installing unit where it will be exposed to excessive
heat, excessive moisture, splashing liquids, dusty area, direct
sunlight, or angled/inclined installations
The RCD is designed to interface with other AI equipment via
the RS-485 data bus. This is a bi-directional data bus that
allows multiple units to be connected simultaneously. The
lines are daisy-chained between units with 120-ohm resistors
installed at both ends of the wiring harness. Cable designed
specifically for data bus use with 120-ohm nominal
impedance should be utilized.

Do not load three-inch CDs into the unit. While attempting to
load a 3 inch CD with adapter into the unit, the adapter might
separate from the CD and damage the unit or become lodged
inside.
Do not use dirty CDs or CDs colored on the data side; they
may fail to slide in or out of unit.
To operate the AM/FM radio, apply power to the unit by
turning the tuner power to the “ON” position. Use the AM/FM
random search button to select the desired radio station. The
station numbers will appear in the digital window as they are
“tuned” in.
