Welcome
Thank you and congratulations on your purchase of the NISIS K4 Multimedia USB Keyboard with built-in 2
port USB Hub, including the Touch Manager program.
Minimum System Requirements
IBM compatible PC with installed spare USB port 1
Windows 98, ME or 2000 operating system
CD ROM Drive

It is recommended that you check to ensure that your USB ports have been installed, before you commence the
installation by following these instructions :1.
Select Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Device Manager if you have Windows 98 or ME, or
Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager if you have Windows 2000.

In the list of Devices shown in the Device Manager, there should be a line that reads Universal Serial
Bus controllers.
3.
Double click on this line. At least two devices should be listed.
4.
One line should end with “………….PCI to USB Universal Host Controller” and the other line
should read “USB Root Hub”
5.
If either or both of these two lines have a yellow explanation mark “!” or a red cross next to them,
this indicates your USB controller has a problem. You MUST correct these problems before you
attempt to install the K4 Multimedia USB Keyboard, otherwise the installation will fail.

Windows 95 OSR2 has partial USB support, but because it does not support USB fully, it is possible that USB
devices do not work reliably. NISIS has therefore decided to recommend that non of its USB products are
installed under Windows 95. NISIS does not support any of its USB products under Windows 95.
Introduction
The NISIS K4 Keyboard is a USB multimedia keyboard with built-in USB 2 port hub.
Fast, direct and easy single touch access to the Internet or your Emails using 6 dedicated Internet Hot Keys.
In addition, this keyboard has 6 extra multimedia keys to control your CD ROM for Audio or DVD Drive for
Video playback.

You will find the latest drivers and manuals under the Drivers & Manuals section on the web site. All new
manuals have a Revision No. so you can compare the Rev. No. of your manual with the latest Revision on the
web site.
Similarly, Drivers have Version Numbers so you can check to see whether you already have the latest Drivers
Version.
Installation Instructions

Please check that your PC meets the minimum system requirements before attempting to install your
NISIS Product.

Please take the time to follow these instructions very carefully. An extra few minutes that it takes to
ensure you follow these instructions precisely and completely, will help ensure the installation of
NISIS K4 Multimedia USB Keyboard with built-in 2 port USB Hub Installation Guide – Rev. 1.4
your NISIS product is successful. If you miss or ignore any of these instructions you may end up with
a partial or failed installation, and it can be very difficult to correct a partial or failed installation.
Connecting your Keyboard to your PC
1.
Switch off your PC.
2.
Connect the K4 Keyboard into a spare USB port at the back of your PC.
3.
Switch on your PC, and immediately access your system BIOS* by repeatedly tapping the
appropriate key on your keyboard (usually the “Delete” key)
4.
Once you have the system BIOS screen showing on your monitor, look in each menu section until
you find the option “USB Keyboard Support”. Ensure this option is “Enabled” the exit the menu and
save settings before continuing booting up your PC.
* There are many different PC BIOS’s so please read you PC documentation to see how to access your particular
system BIOS.
Background Tasks
Before installing any Programs, Drivers or Hardware, you should ensure that all other programs and background
tasks are closed. This applies to whatever Programs, Drivers or Hardware you are installing and is not specific to
NISIS products. To check what background tasks are running, hold the “Ctrl” and “Alt” keys down on your
keyboard while you press the “Delete” key once only.
Windows 98 or ME
If you are running Windows 98, or ME, you should see a list of programs that are running in the background.
Windows 2000
If you are running Windows 2000, you should see a Windows Security window. Click on the Task Manager
button to see a list of programs that are running in the background.
Some of these programs or background tasks are necessary for Windows to function correctly, but most others
are background tasks such as mouse drivers, virus checkers and other communication programs, should be shut
down, temporarily, while you install new application programs, drivers or hardware.
If you see "Explorer" listed, leave it displayed. If you see "Systray" listed, leave it displayed. All other tasks can
be ended.
You close down a Task by highlighting it, then clicking on the "End Task" button. Some tasks will end
immediately, while others may take some time before you see the screen confirming the task has ended.
Once all the tasks that you have chosen to close down, have ended, you can start the installation of your NISIS
product drivers.
When you restart your PC, all tasks that you ended, will start again as usual.
Don't forget that each time you restart your PC, background tasks are enabled again. So if you are installing
several programs, which require you to reboot your PC after each installation, you will need to temporarily end
each background task after every restart until you have completed all the installations.
Installation of Drivers – Windows 2000
Windows 2000 will detect the K4 Keyboard and automatically load the appropriate drivers.
After your PC has restarted, continue the installation process by loading the Touch Manager software. Jump to
the “Touch Manager Software Installation” heading.

Installation of Drivers – Windows 98 and ME
Windows 98 and ME will detect the new keyboard, and depending upon which version of Windows you have,
98 or ME, the drivers for the keyboard will either be found on the system already, or Windows may ask you
where it can find the drivers.
If asked, insert the Keyboard Installation Diskette No. 1 in your Floppy disk Drive, or the Installation CD in your
CD ROM Drive and tell Windows to search for the new driver. At the option screen, tell Windows to look on the
appropriate Drive.
During the installation, you may be prompted to insert your Windows Installation CD.
Finally, when Windows has loaded all the necessary drivers, it may prompt you to restart your PC.
Touch Manager Software Installation
Insert the Keyboard Installation Diskette No. 1 in your Floppy disk Drive, or the Installation CD in your CD
ROM Drive. Click on Start>Run…then select the Browse button. Choose the appropriate Drive, “A” for your
Floppy Drive or your CD ROM Drive letter, then select “start.exe”, Open and OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
After installing the Touch Manager software, you should see the Touch Manager icon on the Windows Task bar.
Reprogramming the Hot Key functions
If you wish to reprogram the Hot Key functions, click on the Touch Manager icon on the Windows Task Bar.
You should then see the following screen.
Click on the Hot Key you wish to reprogram, and you should see the following screen.

Select either “Function” or “Launch Application or Website” to reprogram the Hot Key.
Uninstalling the Touch Manager Program
It is easy to remove the Touch Manager program from your PC.
In Control Panel select the Add/Remove Programs icon. The select Touch Manager and click on the
Add/Remove button.
If you need further information on how to use this keyboard and the Touch Manager program, click the right
mouse button over the Touch Manager icon on the Windows task bar, then select “Help” from the pop-up menu.

Can I use the NISIS K4
Keyboard (USB) with Windows
95 or Windows NT ?
Windows NT does not support the USB interface, so you cannot use this
particular Keyboard, nor, in fact, any other NISIS USB products under
Windows NT.
Windows 95 came in two versions. The first version (Windows 95 OSR1) did
not support the USB interface at all. The second version (Windows 95 OSR2)
partially supported the USB interface, but because it does not fully support
USB, there are potential problems that can arise when connecting a USB
peripheral to Windows 95 OSR2 PCs. We have therefore decided not to
support NISIS USB products under Windows 95 (both OSR1 and OSR2).
Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows 2000 fully support the USB
interface and NISIS supports all products under these Operating Systems.
Although my default browser is
AOL, I cannot get the WWW
button on the K1 keyboard to
activate anything other than
Internet Explorer. Please help.
You need to reprogram the key to launch your AOL Browser instead of
Internet Explorer. Click on the Touch Manager icon on the Windows task bar,
then select the key that you wish to reprogram. Choose the option "Select a
file on your computer" and click on the Browse button. Now select the file
that launches your AOL Browser. If you don't know the file name that
launches the AOL Browser, contact AOL.
I have a NISIS K1/K3/K4
Keyboard. Where can I find
information on how to use Touch
Manager ?
Select from your Windows Task bar: Start>Programs>Touch
Manager>Touch Manager Help. If you cannot find Touch Manager Help then
you are not using the latest Drivers. Please download the latest Drivers from
the NISIS web site.
After pressing the sleep button to
place the computer into suspend
mode, the computer doesn't wake
up after pressing another key
(other than the sleep button).
What is wrong ?
There may be a problem with power management. Some systems are unable
to wake up after being placed into suspend mode. Follow these steps to fix
this problem:
1 Refer to your computer hardware documentation regarding power
management operation.
2 Ensure that the power management settings for your operating system are
correct, as described in Windows Help.
I am having problems when I
connect a USB device to one of
the USB ports on my K4
Keyboard. Can you help, please?
The two USB ports at the back of the K4 Keyboard are bus-powered hub
ports. Bus-powered USB ports may cause performance problems in some
high-powered USB devices. Be sure that your USB device will work with a
bus-powered hub before connecting it to your keyboard USB port.
If your USB device requires a self-powered hub, then you must connect it to
an available USB port on your computer or to a self-powered USB hub port.
I have connected my K4
keyboard into my PC, but
nothing happens. Windows does
not seem to recognise that the
keyboard has been plugged in.
Why ?
This may be because you don't have installed USB ports. Just because you
have physical USB ports, does not necessarily mean that they have been
installed.
You can check to see whether your USB ports have been installed, by
following these instructions:1. Select Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Device Manager if you have
Windows 98 or ME, or Start>Settings>Control
Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager if you have Windows 2000.

I am running Windows 98
Second Edition (SE), on A PC
with an AMD processor with a
VIA Technologies USB
controller, and am experiencing
problems when connecting my
K4 Keyboard. Can you help ?
This problem may be corrected if you download and run the patch on the

I am having problems installing
the software drivers that came
with the Keyboard. Have you
any suggestions, please ?
Before you start installing any new drivers or application programs, it is
strongly recommended that you close all application programs, before
attempting to install the new application program.
To see what applications are currently running, hold down the "Ctrl" and "Alt"
keys on the left of your Keyboard, then press down once only, the "Delete"
key.
For Windows 95, 98, and ME, you should see a list of programs that are
running in the background.
For Windows 2000, you will see a Windows Security window; click on the
Task Manager button.
Some of these programs are necessary for Windows but most others are
background tasks such as mouse drivers, virus checkers and other
communication programs, which can be temporarily shut down while you
install new application programs.
You will need to make the decision on which tasks can be temporarily shut
down. Most applications listed will be recognised by the name of the
background task. For example, "Touchmgr" shows that the Keyboard Touch
Manager is running. This can be temporarily shut down. ONLY shut down
applications you recognise as not being necessary for Windows.
The programs you temporarily shut down will restart when you next restart
your PC.
Don't forget that each time you restart your PC, background tasks are enabled
again. So if you are installing several programs, which require you to reboot
your PC after each installation, you will need to temporarily end each
background task after every restart until you have completed all the
installations.
I cannot get the UK "£" Pound You need to setup Windows to use a UK Keyboard. In Control Panel, select the
sign when I press the "£" sign. Keyboard icon, then select the Language or the Input Locales tab, then Add

English (United Kingdom) or English (British), and remove English (United
States).
