FLEXIMATS ADHESIVE RECOMMENDATIONS
(MAPEI)
In the market place there are many adhesives suitable for PVC
floor coverings. Following tests on our Fleximat range, we can
recommend Mapei adhesives, in particular:
ADESILEX V4SP for pedestrian areas
and
ADESILEX G19 or G20 for heavy-duty applications and / or in
contact with water.
Below are details and product data sheets on these adhesives.
In all cases we recommend that you contact them for final advice
and suitability of the adhesive for a given application. More
information and details of their local sales offices can be found on
www.mapei.com.
For Flexitred, subject to installations, water, weathering, fuel, and
oil, 1099 “SCOTCHGRIP” VINYL ADHESIVE of 3M can be
suggested.

ADESILEX V4
®
UNIVERSAL ACRYLIC ADHESIVE IN
WATER DISPERSION FOR RESILIENT
FLOOR COVERINGS
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
• ADESILEX V4 is an acrylic adhesive in
water dispersion formulated in an
easily trowelable white paste for
application in a single coating.
• ADESILEX V4 is not inflammable and
contains no toxic substances; it can
therefore be stored with no special
precautions and presents no health
hazards during use.
• ADESILEX V4 has good initial tack and
after approx. ten minutes (at +23°C) is
ready to receive all types of nonmoisture sensitive resilient and woven
floor and wall coverings, provided the
support is somewhat absorbent. Open
time is approx. 20-30 minutes at
+23°C. After drying (in 24-48 hours)
the ADESILEX V4 film is flexible with
extremely high cohesion and bonding.
RECOMMENDATIONS
• Do not use ADESILEX V4 for installing
non-porous floor and wall coverings on
non-absorbent surfaces (use
ADESILEX G19, ADESILEX V4 SP, or
ADESILEX VZ).
• Do not use for exterior carpet
installations (use ADESILEX G19 or
ADESILEX G20).
WHERE TO USE
Interior installations of vinyl, linoleum,
cork, coconut fibre flooring, needlepunch
/ tufted carpet, and vinyl wall coverings.
Typical applications
ADESILEX V4 is used for installing:
• Homogeneous and composition PVC
floor tiles and sheet;
• Foam-backed, polyurethane-, PVC
foam-, rubber-, synthetic jute-backed,
polypropylene Action Bac, non-woven
polyester-backed tufted carpet;
• Latex- and foam backed needlepunch
woven flooring;
• Wall coverings in PVC and rigid PVC
sheets;
• Do not use for installing cove base,
tack strip, or rubber or PVC floor
coverings on stairs
(use ADESILEX VZ, ADESILEX LP or
AQUAGUM.)
• Do not use ADESILEX V4 for installing
any type of rubber flooring in exteriors,
in areas subject to heavy traffic or in
very damp environments (use
ADESILEX G19, ADESILEX G20, or
ADESILEX G12).
• PVC-film backed or resin-bonded
needlepunch, provided they are not
moisture-sensitive.
• Do not use ADESILEX V4 for installing
natural jute-backed linoleum, cork
linoleum or natural cork (use
AQUACOL L.)
• PVC-backed cork;

Preparation of the substrate
Substrates must be thoroughly dry,
absorbent, level, resistent to compression
and tensile stress, free of dust, loose
particles, paint, wax, oil, rust, traces of
gypsum and products which can interfere
with bonding, and should not contain
cracks.
For cement substrates, the moisture
content must be a maximum of 2.5% to
3%; for gypsum-based or anhydrite
substrates, a maximum of 0.5%.

Concrete underlayments that are uneven
or not sufficiently level, old marble floors,
terrazzo, and ceramic tiles must be
levelled with PIANODUR R, PLANOLIT,
ULTRAPLAN, PLANO 3 or NIVORAPID,
depending on requirements and on
desired thickness.
Stripping strength at 90° in compliance
with FEICA standards after 14 days at
+23°C for homogeneous PVC:
For thicknesses greater than 1.5 cm, use
PLANICRETE mixed with appropriately
graded sand and Portland cement or
ULTRAPLAN MAXI.

of primer depends on requirements or on

On non-absorbent supports, smoothing
must be at least 3 mm thick.
Insufficiently solid concrete surfaces must
be removed or consolidated, if possible,
with PROSFAS or PRIMER EP. Surface
cracks or crazing in concrete surfaces
must be repaired with EPORIP.
Before finishing existing floors (cement
terrazzo, ceramic tiles, marble), clean
thoroughly with caustic soda or other
suitable material (rinse with water)
and apply a primer (PRIMER G or
3.0 N/mm

Acclimatization
Before beginning the installation, make
sure that the adhesive, the floor or wall
covering, and the substrate are
acclimatized to the recommended
temperature.
The floor and wall covering must be

several hours, depending on
temperature, absorbency of the substrate,
and porosity of the material.
ADESILEX V4 dries completely in approx.
24 to 48 hours.
Cleaning
Fresh ADESILEX V4 can be cleaned from
flooring, tools, hands and clothing with
water. After drying, clean with alcohol or
PULICOL.
COVERAGE
Coverage varies, depending on the
substrate, type of backing, and trowel
used:
with n. 1 trowel 250 to 300 g/m2
with n. 2 trowel 300 to 350 g/m2
with n. 3 trowel 350 to 400 g/m2

Spreading the adhesive
With a notched trowel, apply ADESILEX
V4 evenly onto the substrate in sufficient
quantity as to wet the back of the floor
covering completely.
Depending on the type of trowel used,
absorption by the substrate, and ambient
temperature and humidity conditions,
drying time for ADESILEX V4 is approx.
10 minutes at +23°C.
Installing the floor-covering
Follow the installation instructions given
by the floor covering manufacturer.
Install the floor or wall covering after the
waiting time has elapsed and while the
adhesive can still transfer to the
material’s backing: open time is approx.
20 to 30 minutes depending on the type
of substrate and ambient temperature
and humidity conditions.
The surface must be smoothed with a
wooden block (or similar object) or with
a heavy roller immediately after laying
the flooring, from the center outward, to
break down adhesive ridges and to
ensure removal of entrapped air.

WARNING
ADESILEX V4 is available in 25 kg,
12 kg, and 5 kg buckets and 1 kg packs.
N.B. Although the technical details and

STORAGE
Protect from frost during transit and
storage. Avoid prolonged exposure to
temperatures below 0°C. Under normal
conditions and in its original unopened
packaging ADESILEX V4 is stable for at
least 12 months.

WHERE TO USE
Bonding for interiors and exteriors of rubber, PVC,
textile, needlepunch, and linoleum flooring, polystyrene
and polyurethane panels, fibrous concrete, wood,
sheet-metal, and plastic laminates.
Cement screeds, asphalt and non-absorbent flexible or
moisture-sensitive (metal sheets, plastic laminates,
fibrous concrete, rubber, PVC, wood, existing ceramic
tiles).
Some application examples
Adesilex G19 is an extremely strong and flexible
all-purpose adhesive especially recommended for
non-absorbent or moisture-sensitive surfaces.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Adesilex G19 is a two-part adhesive composed of a
polyurethane polymer, part A, and a special hardener,
part B.
Adesilex G19 is used for bonding:
Mixing the parts carefully forms a uniformly coloured
paste that is easily applied with a notched trowel.
• Rubber flooring in tiles or sheet (with smooth back,
textured back, radial rubber tiles) in interiors and
exteriors subject to heavy traffic.
• Rubber flooring for athletic complexes, even on
asphalt underlayments (e.g. tracks).
• Homogeneous or composition vinyl or PVC foam
backed flooring.
OVER
After hardening in approx. 24 hours solely through
chemical reaction and without shrinkage, Adesilex G19
becomes flexible, resistent to moisture, water, heat and
atmospheric agents, with high bonding characteristics
on almost all materials commonly used in construction.
• Semiflexible vinyl flooring.
RECOMMENDATIONS
• Do not install on substrates subject to rising damp
(always place a vapor-proof membrane between the
ground and the screed).
• Textile, needlepunch, tufted and woven flooring for
exterior installations.
• Do not install on damp concrete (residual moisture
must be no higher than 3.0%).
• Rubber and PVC floors over existing flooring.
• Do not install on fresh asphalt (wait at least 20 days).
• Sandwich panels for prefabricated movable walls in
polystyrene, expanded polyurethane, fibrous concrete,
wood, composite board, metal sheeting, etc.
• Do not install on bituminous surfaces which might
bleed oils.
• Tack strip installation for stretching carpet.
• Do not use Adesilex G19 at temperatures below
+10°C or above +30°C.

• Do not use on curved surfaces or on stairs
if the flooring is unable to maintain perfect
contact with the substrate until the
adhesive has set (use Adesilex VZ,
Adesilex LP or Aquagum applied to the
back of the floor covering).
• Do not use Adesilex G19 for thin flooring
which may show adhesive ridges (use
Adesilex G20 self-levelling polyurethane
adhesive).
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Preparing the substrate
The substrates must be thoroughly dry,
absorbent, level, resistant to compression
and tensile stress, free from dust, loose
particles, cracks, paint, wax, oil, rust, traces
of gypsum and materials which may interfere
with bonding.
All ruling laws of each single country must be
respected.
Adesilex G19: mixing
the two parts
The moisture content must be as follows: for
cement substrates, a maximum of 2.5-3%;
for gypsum or anhydrite based substrates, a
maximum of 0.5%.
It is essential to make sure there is no rising
damp present.
Floating screeds over layers of insulation and
screeds over bare ground must be isolated
by a vapour barrier.
When repairing cracks and crazing,
consolidating screeds, forming fast-drying
screeds, or levelling uneven screeds is
required, consult the Mapei catalogue for
substrate preparation products or the
technical assistance.
External surfaces can be levelled with
Planicrete mixed with suitably graded sand
and cement or with Adesilex P4.
For exterior asphalt surfaces, use either
Adesilex G19 or Adesilex G20.
In special cases and for small imperfections
in the substrate Adesilex G19 can be used
as a smoothing compound. Install the flooring
with Adesilex G19 as soon as the smoothing
layer is set to light foot traffic.

Acclimatization
Before beginning the installation, ensure that
the adhesive, the floor or wall covering, and
the substrate are acclimatized to the
prescribed temperature.
The floor and wall covering must be removed
from packaging several hours before
installing; rolls must be freely laid or at least
loosened to permit acclimatization and
reduction of tensions produced by
packaging.
Mixing
The two parts of Adesilex G19 are available
in pre-measured proportions:
Part A, 9.4 parts by weight;
Part B, 0.6 parts by weight.
Installing Sportflex
Super X with
Adesilex G19
Mixing must be carried out with a mechanical
stirrer until a homogeneous paste is obtained.
Setting time and pot life are closely related to
the ambient temperature (see Table). Do not
use at temperatures below +10°C because
setting time will be too long.
N.B. The ratio of resin (part A) to catalyst
(part B) is strictly determined. Any
modification to the dosage will interfere
with reticulation of the adhesive.
Spreading the adhesive
The choice of trowel depends on the back of
the flooring to be installed: for smooth back
use MAPEI trowels 1 and 2. For textured
backings use 3 or 4 trowels (see Mapei chart
or follow the flooring manufacturer’s
instructions).
Apply the adhesive evenly and on as much of
the surface that can be covered with flooring
in approximately 60 minutes, depending on
the ambient temperature and that of the
substrate.
Installing the floor-covering
Follow the installation instructions given
by the floor covering manufacturer.
The floor covering in tiles or sheets must be
applied onto the Adesilex G19 while still
fresh, within 1 hour at +23°C, and smoothed
from the center outward to ensure complete
contact and remove entrapped air.
When the flooring is uneven, the deformed
sections, joints and ends must be weighted
down (with sandbags or other) until the
Adesilex G19 is dry (12 to 24 hours).
Special care must be taken for exterior
installations at high temperatures or wide
temperature differentials (install at the coolest
time of day).
For thick flooring in sports complexes,
Adesilex G19 can be used to bond sheets
edge to edge.
Flooring bonded with Adesilex G19 is set to
light foot traffic in approx. 12 to 24 hours.
Final setting takes place in approx. 3 days at
an ambient temperature of +23°C.

CONSUMPTION
Consumption varies, depending on the
evenness of the substrate, the type of
backing, and the trowel used:

with MAPEI 4 trowel: 800 to 1000 g/m2
Cleaning
Adesilex V4 can be cleaned from flooring,
tools, hands and clothing with alcohol before
the hardening reaction occurs. After
hardening, it can only be removed
mechanically or with Pulicol.
Colours
Adesilex G19 is available in beige, red,
green, and black. Special colours can be
requested (min. 600 litres).

PREPARATION AND APPLICATION
Adesilex G19 Part A is irritant for the eyes
and skin.
Adesilex G19 Part B is corrosive.
Both components can provoke sensitivity if in
contact with the skin. Use protective clothing,
suitable gloves and protect eyes and face. In
case of contact with eyes or skin, wash
immediately with water and consult a doctor.

WHERE TO USE
• Interior and exterior bonding of
flooring in rubber, PVC, textiles,
needlepunch, linoleum, polystyrene and
polyurethane panels, fibrous cement,
wood, sheet metal, plastic laminates.
• Bonding of synthetic reinforcing mesh
for the backings of ceramic tiles for
ventilated building facades.
Typical applications
ADESILEX G20 is used for bonding:
A tough adhesive with high elasticity and
tenacity for general use, particularly
recommended for supports that are nonabsorbent or sensitive to humidity. Due to
its low viscosity it can be applied with
rollers in industrial continuous production
lines.
• Do not install on wet surfaces.
After hardening (around 24 hours),
solely by chemical reaction and without
shrinkage, ADESILEX G20 becomes
elastic, resistant to water, humidity, heat,
atmospheric agents, with high
caracteristics of adhesion on nearly all
commonly used construction materials.
• Do not use ADESILEX G20 at
temperatures below +10°C or above
+35°C.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
ADESILEX G20 is a low viscosity two
component adhesive consisting of a
polyurethane polymer, part A, and a
special hardener, part B.
By accurately mixing the two components
together a uniformly coloured paste is
obtained, that can easily be applied with
a trowel, roller or spreader.
ADESILEX G20 can only be applied on
horizontal surfaces.

• Do not install on freshly laid asphalt
(wait at least 20 days).
• Do not use on bituminous surfaces
which might bleed oils.
• Do not use ADESILEX G20 as an
adhesive on surfaces that are not

a year if the buckets are kept sealed.
Component B “catalyst’’, must be kept in a
warm environment in order to avoid
crystallization due to the cold. In the case of
crystallization it will be necessary to warm up
in a water bath before using.

Uneven or insufficiently flat concrete
substrates, old marble flooring, terrazzo,
ceramic etc., must be levelled with
PIANODUR R, PLANOLIT, ULTRAPLAN,
PLANO 3 or NIVORAPID depending on
requirements and desired thickness.
On metal supports use PLASTIGUM
LEGANTE with POWDER CF.

Assistance department.
External substrates to be covered must be
properly isolated from rising damp by a
vapor barrier (except those in asphalt).
Surfaces of hot laid asphalt must be of a
suitable consistency capable of
supporting the anticipated loads.
Bituminous substrates with low helting
point or substrates that could possibly
exude oils, can not be used.
Cement surfaces not sufficiently solid
must be removed or, where possible,
consolidated with PROSFAS or PRIMER
EP. (See technical sheet).
Cracks or crazing in the concrete surface
must be repaired with EPORIP. (See
technical sheet).
For thicknesses above 1.5 cm use
PLANICRETE mixed with appropriate
graded sand and Portland cement or
ULTRAPLAN MAXI.
External surfaces may only be levelled
with PLANICRETE mixed with the
appropriate graded sand and cement.
Where necessary asphalt surfaces can be
levelled using ADESILEX G20 with the
addition of up to 25-30% clean, dry
sand.

Mixing
The two components of ADESILEX G20
are supplied in drums with the correct
proportions:
Component “A’’ 9.4 parts by weight
Component “B’’ 0.6 parts by weight
Mixing must be carried out with a
mechanical stirrer until a homogeneous
paste is obtained. Setting time and pot
life are closely linked to the ambient
temperature (see relative table).
CONSUMPTION
Consumption is approximately
350-500 g/m2.
Cleaning
ADESILEX G20 can be removed from
flooring, tools and clothing with alcohol
before hardening occurs. After hardening
it can only be removed mechanically or
with PULICOL.
Colour
ADESILEX G20 is available in beige.
Special colours can be supplied on
request (min. 600 kg).
PACKAGING
Never use at temperatures below +10°C
as the resulting setting time will be too
prolonged.
ADESILEX G20 is supplied in units of
10 and 5 kg.
Attention: the ratio between the resin
(part “A’’) and the catalyst (part “B’’) is
unvariable. Any modification of the
dosage will compromise the proper
reticulation of the adhesive.
STORAGE
ADESILEX G20 under normal conditions
and in its original unopened packaging,
is stable for at least 12 months.
Spreading the adhesive
The choice of the system of application
(trowel, roller or spreader) depends on
the type of flooring and substrate.
In every case the adhesive must be
applied evenly and on as much of the
surface that can be covered with flooring
in approximately 60 minutes (with
attention to the ambient and substrate
temperature).
Installing the floor covering

Install the flooring with ADESILEX G20 as
soon as the smoothing layer is ready for
traffic.
Acclimatization
Before starting the installation, make sure
that the floor covering, the adhesive and
the substrate are acclimatized at the
recommended temperature.
Floor coverings must be removed from
the packaging several hours before
installation; the lengths must be freely
laid or at least loosened from the rolls to
The flooring, both sheets or tiles, must be
applied to the ADESILEX G20 while it is
still fresh, within 1 hour at 23°C, and
then accurately smoothed from the centre
towards the edges, in such a way to
make complete contact, and at the same
time allow any air bubbles to escape
from the edges.
When the flooring is uneven, the
deformed sections, joints and ends must
be weighted down (with sandbags or
other) until the ADESILEX G20 has cured
(12 to 24 hours).
Special care must be taken for exterior
installations at high temperatures or wide
temperature differentials (install at the
coolest time of day).
Flooring bonded with ADESILEX G20 is
ready for foot traffic after approximately
12-24 hours. In an ambient temperature
of 23°C final setting takes place after
approximately 3 days.

recommendations contained in this report
