Agile RF-to-IF Converter
BARCO's TIC 860 smart downconverter offers more than just
multiple RF inputs, low noise, full
remote control capabilities and
intelligent automatic gain control.
It also contains unique built-in
diagnostics which automatically
report any fault or signal failure
to BARCO's Cable TV Operations
Support System (OSS), ROSA.
Intelligent Down-converter
BARCO's TIC 860 down-converts any TV RF signal
within a range of 45 to 860 MHz into a high quality IF
signal.
The gain control operates either manually or
automatically. Even in the manual mode, gain
remains very stable. When in the automatic position,
the processor evaluates the incoming energy, being
the desired and adjacent channels. It will set the
attenuation in order to reach a good compromise
between maximal S/N and minimal intermodulation.
This results in low noise performance in both multichannel (Cable TV) and single channel (transmitter)
applications.
The TIC 860 is equipped with a 4-channel RF input
switch, which is particularly useful in applications
where the unit is used in a backup configuration,
where it is linked to 4 different antennas, or also
when the TIC 860 is used as a demodulator front-end
for RF quality control. It can switch between RF input
(off-air channels) and the RF output of the Cable TV
headend.

is designed to serve the functions
of channel coding and IF or RF
modulation for Digital Terrestrial
Television (DTTV). The modulator

The primary application of LIBRA is terrestrial TV
modulation. Special attention is paid to optimize
total transmitter performance. The OFDM signal is
very complex. Frequency, and amplitude non-linearity
distortions will cause difficulties for reception as well
as cause interference into adjacent channels. Hence
the unit is equipped with an amplitude non-linearity
precorrector which digitally optimizes transmitter
performance and thus increases available power
output and coverage area. Additionally the nonlinearity corrector may serve as peak limiter in order
to control peak to average power ratios.
Also due to the complexity of the OFDM signal,
alignment of transmitters is cumbersome. However
the built-in test signals greatly facilitates this. Where
a 'complete' TV signal is required, such as for small
transmitters, the LIBRA OFDM Modulator may be fitted
with an internal UHF channel converter.

ease, LYNX handles signals which
are scrambled, mono or stereo,
analog or digital.
LYNX also provides full remote
control of all settings through the
ROSA software, BARCO's Cable TV
Operations Support System (OSS).
Built-in diagnostics will report any

The LYNX encoder modulates baseband video and audio
signals into a composite IF signal, which is then digitized
into a 194 Mb/s data stream. The LYNX Encoder is based
on BARCO's revolutionary PULSAR modulator, which is the
first modulator that requires no tweaking and that has
full remote control facilities. The analog modulation
portion of the LYNX provides a high quality composite
IF signal for the A-to-D converter. If needed, an error
correction code can be added to the signal. The 194 Mb/s
output of the LYNX can be fed to an optical transmitter.
Thanks to its built-in intelligence, all of the important
parameters, including modulation depth, audio
deviation, etc., can be remotely controlled. This leaflet
describes the LYNX Encoder for the BG system. Other
transmission standards are also available.
Super-trunking without compromise
LYNX fits into BARCO's digital transmission concept,
providing transparent optical signal distribution based
on the transport of digitized composite IF signals. The
system consists of LYNX Encoders and Decoders linked by
C-COR's Digital Fiber Optical Transmitters and
Receivers.

solution for linking digital IF hub
sites. The LYNX Decoder fits into
any 19" rack and occupies only 1
unit of space. In common with all
BARCO
stability
products,
and
long-term
reliability
are
designed into the product.
Built-in diagnostics will report any
deviation from preset values to
BARCO's Cable TV Operations
Support System (OSS), ROSA.
The LYNX Decoder accepts two 194 Mb/s data streams and
clock signals from an optical receiver. After D to A
conversion, the resulting composite IF signal is converted
into RF. The selected 194 Mb/s input is constantly monitored
for errors. When a failure occurs, LYNX automatically
activates the alternate input. Besides analog IF signals, LYNX
can also handle QAM modulated signals. Introducing digital
services on the network only involves replacement of the
analog modulator, the hubs do not require any
modification. Thanks to its built-in intelligence, all of the
important parameters, including RF level, input selection,
output frequency, etc., can be remotely controlled. In
conjunction with BARCO's OSS, ROSA, time-consuming tasks,
such as level checks, can be fully automated, resulting in
reduced operational costs. LYNX is available for AMVSB
IF frequencies of 38.9 or 45.75 MHz, as well as for QAM
IF frequencies of around 36 MHz or 44 MHz.
The all-in-one Digital IF-Hub solution
LYNX fits into BARCO's digital transmission concept,
providing transparent optical signal distribution based on
the transport of digitalized composite IF signals. The
system consists of LYNX encoders and decoders linked by
digital fiber optical transmitters and receivers.
