Working With Multiple Subwoofers
Standard Finish
Black paint on Ash veneer.
High-performance theaters may use multiple
subwoofers for best performance. A Rumble Sub
handles the percussive bass associated with
explosions, effects, and synthesized music scores.
An Impact Sub handles the fast, hard hitting bass
associated with effects and music. A Transitional Sub
is tuned to smooth the response between bandwithlimited main speakers and Impact Subs.
Minimum
8"
All Bay Audio custom subwoofers are tuned “in the
box”, so no additional filtering is required. Each
requires a separate Bay Audio 500w PowerPack.

Wire a Transitional Subwoofer’s amplifier in parallel
with the Impact Sub. Both subwoofers (and
amplifiers) receive the same unfiltered bass signal
from the processor.
Tuning the Transitional Sub
The Transitional Sub is bandwith limited in the lower
frequencies, with a natural roll-off at 40 Hz. Choose
a low-pass crossover point at the processor to
protect your mains. Set the phase to agree with the
phase of the Impact Sub.

Tuning the Transitional Sub
The Rumble Sub is bandwith limited in the higher
frequencies, with a natural roll-off at 40 Hz. Use on
or more Impact Subs with each Rumble Sub.
Placement
Rumble Sub placement is less critical than Impact or
Transitional Subs, and since the cabinets tend to be
large, place where most appropriate in the room.
