Most of the teaching rooms consist of an equipment rack, a mouse and a keyboard, a
SMART Board with projector / or a whiteboard and projection screen.
To use the equipment in these rooms, please follow the instructions below.
Turning on the equipment
On entering the room the lights should switch on, if they don’t then you will have to
manually switch them on with the switches located on the wall by the door.
You will then need to power up the system up by
pressing one of the buttons such as Computer. This
will then power up the projector and lower the screen.
If no drop down screen is fitted, you will have a
SMART board this will power up the SMART board.
To use the computer
You will need to have already awakened the system
as above, by pressing COMPUTER. Go to the
equipment rack, open the door and make sure the computer is switched on (green light
showing).
You will then need to use the keyboard and mouse to “Log
On” to the computer. You use your normal username and
password for this. By default the computer will try and
connect to the network “CSU MAIN”. If you don’t want to
connect to the network and you just need to log on locally to
that computer use the following,
.\avstore
as your username
avstore
as the password
The computer image will then appear on the projector screen or
the SMART board.
To use the VCR
First make sure that the power switch is on, on the front of the unit. You will need to press
“VCR” on the control panel to project the “VCR” on the screen. Use the “VCR” controls as
normal to work the “VCR”. Or the remote control. Be aware the remote control does not
have a great range.
To use the DVD
First make sure that the power switch is on, on the front of the unit. You will need to press
“DVD” on the control panel to project the “DVD” on the screen. Use the “DVD” controls as
normal to work the “DVD”. Or the remote control. Be aware the remote control does not
have a great range.
To use an external laptop computer
You must first make sure that your laptop is properly plugged into the socket on the side of
the equipment rack. Also it is advisable to plug
your laptop into the mains supply.
You will then need to select “Laptop” on the
control panel for it to project onto the screen
or SMART board.
To switch off the system at the end of your lecture
Please use the “System Off” button at the end of your lecture. This will turn all the
equipment off in the room. You may have to turn the lights out on your departure.
Basic SMART board use
Some of the teaching spaces have SMART boards.
When you press the interactive screen, the computer interprets your touch as a left-click,
just as if you were using your mouse. If you’re using a SMART Board interactive
whiteboard, pick up a coloured pen from the pen tray and write on the screen.
When you start writing, the Floating Tools appear on your screen. You can use Area
Capture button to save your notes.
If your product has a pen tray, use the eraser to erase the digital ink. If you’re using a pen
display, press the Eraser button and drag the pen tool across the screen.
You can write a note on the screen over any application and convert your note to typed text
by pressing and holding the note until you see a menu. Select one of the choices and the
typed version of your note appears at the cursor location of your active file or dialog box.
If you’d rather type into an active application or dialog box instead of converting your
handwritten note, use the SMART Keyboard. This onscreen keyboard has different views,
so you can select the one that best suits you. To change the view, open the SMART
Keyboard from the Start Centre and then select the view you want. For example, you can
open the Classic view of the SMART Keyboard to log on right at the interactive screen, or
type numbers with the Number Pad view.
To access the many tools in SMART Board software, double
press the SMART Board icon in the system tray to open the
Start Centre. This should already be open and showing on the
left hand side of the SMART board as an overlay.
The Start Centre is a vertical toolbar for quick access to the SMART Board tools and any
other applications you add. You can customize the toolbar further by making it smaller or
transparent.
