Seagate Nytro XD Solution BLP-xxx Nytro WD is a hardware solution designed to improve the application performance in SAN and DAS storage environments by intelligently caching the most frequently accessed data on PCIe®-attached Flash storage. It includes the host-based solution designed to detect hot spots of frequently accessed data and store them in a Seagate Nytro WarpDrive application acceleration card.

Thank you for your interest in the
Seagate Nytro XD Application
Acceleration Storage Solution.
The Seagate Nytro XD solution is designed to dramatically improve the application performance in
SAN and DAS storage environments by intelligently caching the most frequently accessed data on PCIe®-attached
Flash storage.
The Seagate Nytro XD solution includes the host-based solution designed to detect hot spots of frequently accessed data and store them in a Seagate Nytro
WarpDrive application acceleration card.
The USB stick provided contains
Nytro XD solution documentation and guidelines.
Drivers and firmware are not included with your hardware purchase. You must download these components from the following Seagate location:

QUICK INSTALLATION AND SETUP
The Seagate® Nytro™ XD BLP-xxx installation includes the Seagate Nytro XD solution and
Seagate Nytro WarpDrive® (Nytro WD BLP-xxx) card (hardware) installation.
To install the Seagate Nytro WD BLP-xxx card, perform these steps:
1.
Unpack the card and inspect it for damage. Unpack the card in a static-free environment.
Remove the card from the antistatic bag and carefully inspect the device for damage. If you notice any damage, or if any component is missing, contact Seagate or your reseller support representative.
ATTENTION: Back up your data before changing your system configuration.
2.
Prepare the computer. Turn off the computer and remove the power cord from the back of the power supply. Remove the cover from the chassis.
WARNING: To avoid electrical shock, disconnect the computer from the power supply and from any networks before installing the controller card.
3.
Insert the Seagate Nytro WD BLP-xxx card in an available PCI Express® slot. Locate an empty PCI Express slot. Remove the blank bracket panel on the computer chassis that aligns with the empty PCI Express slot. Save the bracket screw, if applicable. Align the card to a PCI
Express slot. Press down gently, but firmly to correctly seat the card in the slot. The following figure illustrates how to insert the card in a PCI Express slot.

4.
Secure the bracket to the system’s chassis. Install the bracket screw, if applicable, or engage the system retention mechanism to secure the card to the system’s chassis.
5.
Replace the cover, the power cords, and power-up the system. Replace the system’s cover, reconnect the power cords, and any network cables. Turn on the power.
The Seagate Nytro XD BLP-xxx hardware installation is complete.
Quick Installation Guide
Install the applicable drivers and tools into your host environment. Drivers and firmware are not included with your hardware purchase. You can download the most recent drivers in the link: http://www.seagate.com/products/solid-state-flash-storage/accelerator-cards/
Installing the Seagate Nytro XD Solution
Visit the following web site for information about the Nytro XD solution supported operating systems, software and firmware, and documentation: http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/
1.
Download the NytroXD-Windows-xxx.zip file.
2.
Extract the compressed NytroXD-Windows-xxx.zip file onto any location and navigate to it in Microsoft® Windows explorer.
3.
Double-click the NytroXD solution executable file.
4.
Click Next on the Nytro XD - InstallShield Wizard dialog.
Nytro XD requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 redistributable and .Net framework V4.
5.
Click Install on the Nytro XD - InstallShield Wizard dialog to install the components mentioned in the preceding step.
6.
On the Setup Type dialog, select the required setup type. The setup process guides you through the installation of the Nytro XD solution and its components.
• Complete – This option lets you install all of the Nytro XD solution components.
7.
Click Next.
8.
On the Ready to Install the Program dialog, click Install to start the installation process .
The Setup Status dialog shows the installation status.
The Windows Security prompt dialog appears.
9.
Select the Always trust software from “Seagate Technology” check box on the Windows
Security dialog, and Click Install.
10. Select the Yes, I want to restart my computer now. radio button on the InstallShield Wizard
Complete dialog.
11. Click Finish.
The Nytro XD solution must be configured before the Windows disk can be managed by the Nytro XD solution.
Configuring the Nytro XD Solution
1.
Go to the MegaCLI directory using this command:
C:\Progam Files\Seagate Technology\Nytro XD\MegaCli
2.
View the unconfigured cache devices by running this command:
# MegaCli64 XD -CdevList -Unconfigured
This is the sample output:

• SUCCESS: If is successful, this command shows the list of cache devices, and prints the exit code 0x00.
• FAILURE: If it fails, this command shows an error message, and prints the exit code 0x01.
3.
Add a cache device listed in cdev_list for caching under Nytro XD using its SCSI ID by running the MegaCli64 XD -AddCdev command.
This is the sample output:

This is the sample return value:
• SUCCESS: If it is successful, this command adds the cache device, and prints the exit code 0x00.
• FAILURE: If it fails, this command shows an error message, and prints the exit code 0x01.
4.
View the unconfigured virtual drives (VDs) by running this command:
# MegaCli64 XD -VdList -Unconfigured

• SUCCESS: If it is successful, this command shows the list of VDs, and prints the exit code 0x00.
• FAILURE: If it fails, this command shows an error message, and prints the exit code 0x01.
NOTE: The SAN or DAS storage that is being accelerated are referred to as cached devices or VDs.
5.
Add the VDs listed in vd_list to be cached under Nytro XD by running the
MegaCli64 XD -AddVd command.
This is the sample output:
# MegaCli64 XD -AddVd 600605B003955970182FE9D833717D14
Device " 0x600605B003955970182FE9D833717D14" added successfully.
Exit Code: 0x00
This is the sample return value:
• SUCCESS: If it is successful, this command adds the VD, and prints the exit code 0x00.
• FAILURE: If it fails, this command shows an error message, and prints the exit code 0x01.
The configuration is complete, and the VDs configured are now ready to be cached by the
Nytro XD solution. Use the configured Nytro XD solution device node using the
Nytro Storage Manager™ application, StorCLISTX, and MegaCLI utilities.
