QUICKSTART GUIDE
This document is intended to give you a quick overview of the basic features of
the Digital Music Mixer (DM²). For more detailed information see the DM² User
Manual located on the CD-ROM.
Installation
Before installing the DM² program ensure your computer meets the minimum
system requirements noted on the box, CD-ROM sleeve and in the on-line
manual.
To install the DM2:
1. Insert the DM2 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive
2. If the AutoPlay feature is enabled, the program will start automatically. To
launch the install program manually, click Start on the Windows taskbar and
select Run. Type d:\Setup.exe. (where “d:” refers to your CD-ROM drive).
3. When the installation screen appears, select “Install DM2 Software”.
4. Follow the directions in the Setup program.
5. Plug the DM2 controller into your USB port when prompted at the end of the
program installation.
6. Follow the calibration instructions for the Crossfader and W.A.R.P. joystick
controller.
After installation and calibration are complete, you’ll find an icon for the DM² in
the DM² menu item within Programs under the Start menu on the Windows
taskbar as well as on the desktop.
NOTE: The DM2 software has been specifically created to run with the DM2 controller.
While some functions can be accessed using the computer keyboard, this can negatively
impact the program’s performance and is not recommended.
Song Selection Screen
1. Click a music style (like Hip-Hop or House) from those located at the bottom
of the Song Selection screen. A selection of record icons will appear.
2. To hear a sample of each song, roll your mouse cursor over each record icon.
3. Click a record icon to select a song to remix.
Remixing Studio
Step 1: Play a Mix
Each song contains 16 audio tracks that are accessible by pressing the Track
buttons located on the two turntable decks.
1. To play an audio track, press and hold down a Track button.
Step 2: Lock and Unlock Sounds
Locking a sound track keeps the sound playing.
1. To lock an audio track, push a Track button and one of the Lock buttons,
(located in the center of either deck) at the same time.
2. To unlock an audio track, push a locked Track button and a Lock button at the
same time.
Step 3: Solo a Track
A solo is when a single track plays while other tracks are muted.
1. To solo a track, press the Track button that you want to solo, then press and
hold the Solo button, the long rectangular button located in between the two
decks.
2. To stop soloing and continue playing the other locked tracks, simply release
the Solo button.
Step 4: Scratch your Mix
The Scratch Rings will scratch either deck’s sounds.
1. Move the Scratch Ring back and forth to create a scratch effect.
Step 5: W.A.R.P. your Mix
Real time warp effects can be enabled with the W.A.R.P. controller joystick.
1. Select an effect by pressing one of the three W.A.R.P. buttons in the top
center of the DM2.
2. Move the W.A.R.P. controller to activate real-time warp effects.
Step 6: Create a Macro
Macro buttons quickly recall a snapshot of your mix settings.
1. To create a Macro, lock some sound tracks.
2. Hold down one of the four Macro buttons on the lower left of the DM2 for two
seconds to take a snapshot.
3. Repeat step 2 with other music/sounds for the other three Macro buttons.
4. Press one of the four Macro buttons to switch between Macro settings.
Step 7: Crossfader and Transformer
The Crossfader and Transformer let you do advanced DJ tricks.
1. To change the volume balance between the two turntables, move the
Crossfader slider left and right. With the Crossfader in the center, each
turntable is at full volume. When the Crossfader is moved away from a
turntable, the volume is diminished.
2. Move the Crossfader to the right and press the “A” Transformer button to
increase the volume on the left deck. Use the “B” Transformer button with the
Crossfader moved to the left to affect the right deck.
Step 8: Customize a Mix
To customize a Mix, new sounds may be loaded into any of the 16 tracks in the
Remixing Studio.
1. To load a new track, use your mouse cursor to double-click one of the 16
track indicators onscreen.
2. Use the dialog box to find the .trk or .wav file you want.
3. Click the file, then click “Preview” to hear it.
4. Click “Load Track” to add the sound file into the Mix.
Step 9: Record a Mix
You can record a Mix with the DM2.
1. With a song loaded in the Remixing Studio, press the Record button on the
upper right of the DM2 controller.
2. Perform a Mix by using the many features detailed above.
3. Press the Stop button when finished.
4. Click the “Save Mix” button on the top edge of the Remixing Studio screen to
save your performance.
Step 10: Export Options
Mixes may be exported into a variety of useful formats.
1. After recording a mix, click the “Export Mix” button on the top edge of the
Remixing Studio screen.
2. Select from .wav, Windows Media Audio, (.wma), or RealAudio (.rm) file
formats.
3. Click the “Save” button.
Step 11: Mixman Radio
Broadcast your music for the world to hear. (Internet connection is required.)
1. After recording a Mix, click the “Export Mix” button.
2. Select the RealAudio file type (.rm).
3. Click the “Save” button.
4. Go to www.mixman.com and select “Mixzone”.
5. Select “Mixman Radio”.
6. Follow the instructions for submitting your Mix.
Insert the DM2 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, plug the DM2 controller into your USB port.
