Procedure for using Olympus Colposcope equipment
Before you Start
For RHSC only:
• Manoeuvre colposcope and monitor trolley from Rm 14 cupboard
• Place monitor at top left corner of the coach and colposcope at bottom left.
• The loose end of the camera head is the flat connector in the yellow bin at the bottom of the
colposcope
• Insert camera connector to the Digital Processor (top box on the trolley)
• Plug in the colposcope and monitor at wall and switch on
For all sites:
• If the image on the monitor does not look the right colour perform ‘white balance’ by pressing and
holding down the button the Digital Processor.
• Check that the monitor is on the RGB/A channel, ready to record.
• Focus the image using the black dials on the colposcope. If the image on the monitor does not
appear as crisp as required use the corrugated black dial on the camera head (colposcope end) to
get a sharp image on the monitor. Remember that what is recorded is what appears on the monitor.
• If the image on the monitor is not orientated properly, correct this by rotating the metal rings at the
camera head (colposcope end). Tighten the screw when you have finished.
• Insert the blank DVD into the Sony DVD Recorder (bottom box on the trolley).

Pull out keyboard below the monitor
Hold Shift down and press F2. A list of numbers appear on the screen.
Use the down arrow key to highlight ‘ALL CLEAR’. You will be asked if you wish to do this. Use the
arrow key to select ‘YES’ and press ‘ENTER’.
You will see a list of numbers with no patient data. Select any number and press ‘ENTER’.
You are now ready to entre your patient details. The default is capitals.
Use the down arrow and press ‘ENTER’ to select your field of interest.
When the information for each field has been input press ‘ENTER’ to move to the next field.
Number = CHI
Comment = Doctor’s initials and type of examination
The date and time of examination are automatically recorded.
Once all the information is input press ‘ESC’.
To bring up the patient information press F2. record this on the DVD as your chain of evidence before
the patient arrives.
To remove the patient information press F2 again – remember to do this before you start your
examination or the patient details will appear throughout the recording when you play back.
If at any time you find yourself in a setup menu press ‘ESC’ to exit.
Features on the camera head

There are 2 remote buttons which have been programmed to record and to magnify.
The right-hand button is the record button. Press to start and stop recording
The left-hand button allows you to zoom in during examinations – press and you will be viewing x1.2,
press again and it will go to x1.5 and again for x2. Keep pressing and it returns to your original
magnification.

For RHSC and St Johns only – make sure you are on the RGB/A channel
You can record by using either the right-hand button on the camera head or the right-hand button on
the Sony DVD Recorder.
When you use the remote button make sure there is a green light on the DVD Recorder and that the
dial on the recorder is advancing.
You can pause anytime during the examination and re-start using the remote or buttons on the
Recorder.
When you finish the examination press stop (left-hand button on the DVD Recorder).
To Finalise

Flick the monitor channel from RGB to Y/C
Press the ‘MENU’ button on the DVD Recorder (player?)
Scroll down to ‘DISC INFO’, then press the right arrow on the DVD Recorder (player?)
Scroll down to ‘FINALISE’ and press the right arrow.
Scroll down to ‘EXEC’ and press ‘SET’.
The screen will display the word ‘READY’, then press ‘SET’ again.
The DVD recorder will take 3-4 minutes to finalise and the monitor will say ‘COMPLETE’ when
finished.
Make sure you view the DVD to ensure it has recorded before erasing from the hard drive. You can
check this by either viewing on a computer or making sure there is a darker circle showing a
recording has been made on the back of the DVD.
To play back on a desktop computer

Load the DVD into the disc drive of the computer
Double click on My Computer
If a blank screen appears press Esc
You should see a split screen with a list of ‘TITLES’ from the DVD on the right.
Double click on the Title/Chapter of interest (usually Title 1) and the DVD should play
If there is no computer in the room (such as at the Vega Centre) check on the back of the DVD for
blue/dark grey ring showing a recording is present.
To erase the recording from the DVD recorder internal hard drive.

During the DVD recording a copy of the image is made and stored on the DVD Recorder hard drive.
These must be erased after each examination in order to prevent access and viewing by
unauthorised people.
Ensure the monitor is on the Y/C channel.
Press and hold the left arrow button on the DVD Recorder together with the ‘MENU’ button.
The maintenance menu will appear on the monitor. The ‘DUBBING’ option will be highlighted. Press
the right arrow on the DVD Recorder.
The menu on the monitor will then show ‘RESTORE TITLES’ and ‘ERASE ALL’. Scroll down to
‘ERASE ALL’ and press the right hand arrow on the DVD Recorder.
Scroll down to ‘EXEC’ and press ‘SET’.
The monitor displays ‘READY?’ and press ‘SET’ again.
The hard drive will start erasing and the monitor will say ‘COMPLETE’ when finished.
Press ‘MENU’ to get out of the menu and switch back to the RGB channel.
