Introduction
Pcounter is a flexible and simply scalable, server-based network accounting and management
solution covering the cost control and cost account of printers on networks.
Its modular structure allows best adaptation to the requirements for a modern printing management
system.
Pcounter embedded provides the integration of SHARP multi functional devices in the Pcounter
Accounting solution, using the "open system architecture" (OSA) from SHARP.
Pcounter embedded allows to track all features of the MFP (printing, copying, scanning, fax) and
assign the cost to users, and client codes.
The graphical user interface (GUI) is provided by the MFP´s touch panel. No external terminal is
required (except card readers that are available as an option).
Installing Pcounter embedded requires that the Pcounter PRO software is installed and configured
properly. Detailed information on the Pcounter installation and administration are available in the
manuals "Pcounter Pcounter for Windows" and "Pcounter Configuration Guide".
Also refer to Pcounter embedded Installation Manual chapter 8 "General System
Requirements"
The latest Pcounter and Pcounter embedded Software is available here
http://www.control-systems.de
http://www.pcounter-europe.com
For the initial installation of Pcounter PRO nor registration key is required (60 days trial).
To update Pcounter PRO & Pcounter embedded the maintenance period must not be
expired.

explaining all parameters and settings in detail.
The following system setup is assumed:
- Printers are already installed on your print server and connected via TCP/IP port.
- Directory service is Windows Active Directory

Card Reader
Pcounter embedded supports user login by using external card readers. The card readers can either
be connected via the USB port on the MFP or via a network adapter connected directly to the
Pcounter embedded server.
Attention/Hint
To be able to use USB-Card readers the MFP firmware supporting OSA-V3.5 or higher is
required and the MFP needs to be equipped with a WIDE-VGA/SVGA Touch panel.
Make sure, the USB port where the card reader is connected to, is available and active.
To configure a Card reader for a specific MFP click to the link "nonexistent" in the column "card
reader"
Attention
If the IC-Card reader has been registered to the MFP card reader type "USB " will be
automatically selected after the device has booted.

3.3.5 Money Mode:
In this section special settings for payment sites are available.
[ ] Deny login if [balance] – [low blance limit] = 0:
If the user´s balance is below the low-balance-limit he cannot login to the MFP. If this box is checked
login is also denied when the balance is equal the low-balance-limit. This is important for payment
sites.
Allow login is required in non-payment-site, where users have no balance (=0) and no lowbalance-limit (=0).
[ ] Check balance for each Print job: this will force Pcounter embedded to wait for the result of a
print job BEFORE a next job is sent to the MFP (in case of the user has selected multiple print jobs to
be released). This will enable Pcounter embedded to check the job cost against the user balance
before sending the job, and stop printing if the user balance is too low.
Note
Make sure that in Pcontrol the
prices for the pull-queue are
set properly and that "count
jobs in advance for display"
is checked.
Otherwise Pcounter
embedded will not receive
the job cost information from
Pcounter in advance.
[ ] Check balance for copy and
scan jobs: If this box is checked
Pcounter embedded sets the
limits when enabling the MFP. As
two different limits do exist on the
MFP (B&W limit – Colour limit) the
user has to decide whether to
enable the MFP in B&W-mode or
in Colour-mode.
IMPORTANT
To automatically enable Colour Mode when "colour" is selected make sure to setup the MFP
in
System Settings  Copy settings  Initial Status Settings  Colour mode = Full
Colour.
Note!
A new copy (or scan) job can only be started after the previous one is completely finished.

User import
Usually users from additional LDAP Servers need to be added to the Pcounter Users database. This
will ensure full support of all Pcounter features. (balance, client code association)
Add LDAP user at MFP login to Pcounter Users
If this option is selected a user will automatically be added to the Pcounter User Database at the time
he logs on to the MFP. His balance / Low Balance Limit / Free Quota will be set according the above
settings.
Auto-User import interval [min]
This time determines the interval when Pcounter embedded is checking the LDAP server for new
users. If new users are found they will be added to the Pcounter User Database according the above
settings.
There are few cases where users must not be added to the Pcounter User database.
E.g. when pointing to the same Active Directory Server as Pcounter. In these cases the
additional LDAP Server is only used to retrieve data, Pcounter can´t provide. (e.g.

TeamPrint settings
By default Pcounter PRO can not determine the groups to where a given user belongs to. Pcounter
also can´t determine the members of a given group.
So in case users shall be allowed to release the Jobs of the same group the "additional LDAP server"
feature needs to be used, even in a sole Active Directory environment.
Attention
A username (login name) must exist only once in your site. Either in the basic Active Directory
(or eDirectory) or in one of the additional LDAP-Servers (that will be imported to Pcounter
Users)
In this case you must make sure that Active Directory Users are NOT imported to Pcounter User
Database. Therefore uncheck the “Add LDAP user at MFP login to Pcounter Users” box and leave the
“auto import interval” blank.
Go to  Settings  TeamPrint and check the box “Activate TeamPrint:"
Now Pcounter embedded is able to determine the print jobs of the other users belonging to the same
