The future of lighting control
Trends in office and industrial applications
The intelligent multi-sensor links the advantages of light and
motion detection with a new form of flexibility and precision for
defining zones.
3
Efficiency
Sustainable production technologies are gaining importance worldwide
and in almost all industrial sectors. More and more buildings must
meet legal requirements for reducing electricity consumption. Therefore, companies are taking measures to increase resource and energy
efficiency and to optimise production flows, processes and energy
sources at the same time.
Less CO2 emissions
Lower energy costs
nn Reduced maintenance costs
nn
nn
Flexibility
Within both office buildings and industrial halls the time period
between changes is becoming shorter. The same space must cope
with different usage scenarios and requirements and requires high
functionality.
Changing use
Easy enhancements
nn Minimal downtimes for restructuring
nn
nn
Activity-based lighting
This advanced form of lighting control adapts the lighting to the activity being performed, keeping the focus is more clearly on the person.
The correct mixture of static, automated or even dynamic lighting
scenes increases well-being and optimises the lit environment.
Intelligent sensors can provide the support that the person needs for
efficient performance.

ATIVO contrast sensor
Das Multitalent unter den Sensoren
ATIVO | HighBay contrast sensor with industrial case
The innovative multisensor detects existing daylight and
recognises different objects. Interference factors, such as
heat sources that expose the limits of infra-red sensors, no
longer play any role. The contrast technology enables a
new level of sensor quality.
The ATIVO product family covers various application areas.
HighBay sensors have been developed for room heights up
to 16 metres; a robust IP64 case gives it the necessary resilience for industry. A TECTON version can be easily inserted in the continuous-row lighting. The office variant has
been specially designed for low ceiling heights and simultaneously a maximised detection area. Master sensors control the lighting independently, integrated sensors display
their strengths in combination with the Zumtobel LITECOM
light management system.
5
Movement zones
ATIVO detects presence in up to five
movement zones optimising the light in
each respective zone in the desired way.
Light measurement zones
The illuminance can be controlled to
individually define values in five constant light zones
that are independent of the movement zones.
Grid consisting of 17 × 11 cells
The customer-specific definition of all zones is
performed flexibly by selecting any number of cells
and can be changed at any time.
Sensor that adapts perfectly
ATIVO divides the rectangular detection zone into a grid of 17 × 11
cells. Based on these small units, zones can be defined in almost any
form and arrangement – in accordance with local use and room layout. Thereby, mutually overlapping movement and light measurement zones is permitted; luminaire groups can also be freely assigned. As a result, ATIVO maximises the potential for saving energy
and adapts perfectly to the room layout and the various usage areas.
6
ATIVO contrast sensor
Increases energy efficiency
The energy consumption of any lighting can be minimised by precise
presence detection in combination with daylight-linked constant light
control. Further energy saving potential arises from connection to a
LITECOM lighting management system and time-dependent switching
of the luminaire.

ATIVO contrast sensor
Logistics sample solution
The innovative ATIVO multisensor integrates available daylight, keeps the defined light levels consistent and detects
moving objects. The greatest strength lies in the almost
free design of rectangular detection zones, up to five per
sensor. Subsequent changes to room use can be quickly
and efficiently implemented. High-bay sensors have been
developed for room heights up to 20 metres; a robust
IP64 case gives it the necessary resilience for industry.

Adjusting zones – with just a click of the mouse
The movement and light measurement zones of an ATIVO
contrast sensor can be created as well as adjusted quickly.
The software included in the scope of delivery makes
shaping and positioning the zones into a simplistic task.
Sensors and luminaires communicate with the computer
via the DALI line. Time and cost intensive modifications of
the installation are thus things of the past.

ATIVO and LITECOM
Perfect interaction as a networked system
LITECOM and ATIVO complement each other perfectly. The contrast
sensor transmits presence data and light measurements to the
LITECOM controller that combines these with other functions such as
time and calendar entries. The versatile LITECOM apps smooth the way
for holistic project solutions that are perfectly customised to individual
customer needs.

Activity-based lighting
for the best lighting scene in each case*
The automatic selection of a lighting scene that optimally matches
the activity bring performed guides lighting management into
a user-centric future. The necessary functions for this are made
possible by the teamwork of LITECOM and ATIVO.
Counting persons
ATIVO detects whether a room is empty, one person or
multiple people are present. For example, it can be
established whether a meeting room is being used as
individual office or for a meeting.
0 persons
1 person
Distinguishing objects People need appropriate ambient lighting for orientation; in
contrast, automated transport systems manage with significantly
less lighting. ATIVO distinguishes between person and machine.
Even the alignment of a forklift can be detected allowing the
system to automatically activate additional rack lighting.
Multiple persons
+ 1 person
Establishing frequency
ATIVO determines the frequency in a room or an area
by counting the persons over a defined time period. Among
other things, this finding can be used to reduce the risk of
accidents by providing higher illuminance in frequently
travelled passage zones.
* in development
+ 3 persons
0 persons
Monitoring gates
If persons pass a gate, ATIVO counts them and takes them into
account. The light does not dim down until there are no more
persons present behind the light barrier. Using this gate function,
the necessity to monitor long passageways completely is a
thing of the past.
