Warranty Information

Limited Warranty

Unless otherwise stated, your product is covered by a two year parts and labor limited warranty. Dichroic filters and LithoPatterns

high resolution glass gobos are not guaranteed against breakage or scratches to coating. It is the owner’s responsibility to furnish receipts or invoices for verification of purchase, date, and dealer or distributor. If purchase date cannot be provided, date of manufacture will be used to determine warranty period.

Returning an Item Under Warranty for Repair

It is necessary to obtain a Return Material Authorization number (RMA#) from your dealer or point of purchase BEFORE any units are returned for repair. The manufacturer will make the final determination as to whether or not the unit is covered by warranty. Lamps are covered by the lamp manufacturer’s warranty.

Any Product unit or parts returned to High End Systems must be packaged in a suitable manner to ensure the protection of such Product unit or parts, and such package shall be clearly and prominently marked to indicate that the package contains returned Product units or parts and with a Return Material Authorization

(RMA#) number. Accompany all returned Product units or parts with a written explanation of the alleged problem or malfunction.

Please Note:

Freight Damage Claims are invalid for fixtures shipped in non-factory boxes and packing materials.

All shipping will be paid by the purchaser. Items under warranty shall have return shipping paid by the manufacturer only in the Continental United States.

Under no

circumstances will freight collect shipments be accepted. Prepaid shipping does not include rush expediting such as air freight. Air freight can be sent customer collect in the Continental United States.

Introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of the Ecodome™ architectural housing for the Studio Color

automated wash luminaire or the

Cyberlight

automated luminaire. Ecodome is a weather-resistant, modular outdoor housing system that is both attractive and unobtrusive. Ecodome adapts to its environment, giving a clean look to whatever architectural setting it operates in.

Ecodome is formed from a rotationally-molded high-density polymer colored neutral gray. Other colors are available upon request on a custom-order basis; contact High End Systems Inc.

Overview

Ecodome is suited for both projection luminaires (fixtures that are capable of projecting a focused pattern) and wash luminaires

(fixtures that do not project a focused pattern). The Cyberlight the Studio Color

automated wash luminaire is an example of a wash luminaire. (Although Cyberlight can be used as a wash luminaire, it is considered primarily a projection luminaire.)

The Two Domes

The choice of which type of luminaire to use in Ecodome might also determine which dome you should use. Currently, there are two domes:

• A “litho” dome that is designed for distortion-free projected patterns. This dome ships standard with Cyberlight Ecodome.

• A round dome that is designed for use with wash luminaires.

This dome ships standard with Studio Color Ecodome models and is an option for Cyberlight Ecodome.

You should not use the litho dome with a wash luminaire because at certain pan/tilt values, the litho dome will distort the shape of the beam as well as any effects.

These two domes are shown below:

Litho dome (for projection luminaires)

Round dome (best for wash luminaires)

The litho dome has a flat surface for pattern projection. This flat surface is computer-optimized to provide the largest possible surface area (i.e., largest possible pan/tilt angles) and for distortionfree projection. However, the litho dome does limit the mirror’s pan motion relative to the round dome.

The round dome allows whatever fixture is installed in Ecodome the greatest possible pan and tilt angles because this dome has a uniform round surface; however, projected patterns may be distorted.

Ecodome™

Intended Audience

Ecodome must be installed by a qualified electrician only. This manual is intended for electricians and/or building contractors already familiar with electrical wiring and construction.

Required Tools and Materials

Before installing Ecodome, you need to obtain the following tools and materials:

• One ratchet and

• one 1/2” deep socket

• one 9/16” deep socket

• one 6” extension

• One flat head screwdriver with 3/16” blade

• One pair of scissors or one safety blade

• One #2 Phillips screwdriver

• Four 1/2” studs for mounting Ecodome

• One tamper-resistant screwdriver tool (supplied with

Ecodome). If you wish to obtain a bit for use in a power driver,

see the section titled “Tamper-Resistant Screwdriver Tool” on page 1-5.

• If you are using a concrete foundation for Ecodome:

• one masonry bit

• one hammer drill

• one hammer

Controllers

The DMX 512-compliant fixture installed in Ecodome may be controlled with any of the following:

• A Lightwave Research

LCD controller (part number 26020001 for Studio Color or part number 19020002 for Cyberlight).

• The Status Cue

system.

• Another DMX 512-compatible controller. See the fixture’s user manual for details of DMX 512 control.

Conditions of Acceptability

Ecodome is an ETL/CETL Recognized Component when the following conditions of acceptability are met:

1. Ecodome must be installed in accordance with local and national building and electrical codes.

2. The foundation on which Ecodome is installed must be at least 6 inches (15 cm) above ground level; in addition, Ecodome must not be operated in low-lying areas subject to flooding or in areas subject to standing water.

3. Ecodome model “Studio Color 115” is to be used only with Studio

Color fixture model “575-S”.

4. Ecodome model “Studio Color 230” is to be used only with Studio

Color fixture model “575-S” or with Studio Color fixture model

“575-M”.

5. Ecodome model “Cyberlight 208-230” is to be used only with

Cyberlight fixture models “CBL-01”, “CL-Litho”, “CBL-CX” and “CX

Litho”.

Site Preparation

This section explains how to prepare the site where Ecodome is to be installed.

Keep in mind when you are planning your installation that

Ecodome will be exposed to a variety of seasonal and weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry, etc). Winds can also blow debris near Ecodome’s intake and exhaust vents. Keep all of those conditions in mind when you are planning how and where to install

Ecodome.

Cautions (1) Ecodome cannot be mounted on a wall or upside-down.

(2) Consult the fixture’s user manual for important safety information not contained in this manual.

(3) Risk of fire and shock. This product is to

be installed by a qualified electrician ONLY.

(4) Allow at least 24 inches (61 cm) clearance around intake and exhaust.

(5) Do not operate in low-lying areas subject to flooding or in areas subject to standing water.

General Recommendations

Make sure all of the following are true of the site where you are

going to install Ecodome. Also see Figure 2-3 on page 2-21 and

Figure 3-4 on page 3-37.

1. High End Systems, Inc. recommends that Ecodome be installed on a flat surface, not at an angle, because it provides the best protection from moisture. If you wish to install Ecodome at an

angle, however, see the section titled “Mounting Ecodome at an

Angle” on page 1-11.

2. Power in, power out, DMX (control) In and DMX Out are wired in four separate conduits.

Caution The main power terminal connection must be installed in accordance with local and national building and electrical codes.

3. High End Systems, Inc. recommends that the mains power supply to Ecodome be ground fault protected for added safety.

4. You must allow at least 24 inches (61 cm) free space around

Ecodome’s intake and exhaust.

5. Ecodome should not be installed in a site where soil, water, leaves or other debris is likely to accumulate within 24 inches (61 cm) of

Ecodome’s intake or exhaust.

Recommended Foundation Layout

Use Figure 1-1 and the following guidelines to set up the Ecodome

site:

1. The foundation can be constructed of any suitable material

(concrete, steel, wood, etc.).

2. The foundation can be square, circular or any other shape that

allows at least 32” (81 cm) for Ecodome. See Figure 1-1.

3. The top of the foundation should be at least 6” (15 cm) above ground level.

Mounting Ecodome at an Angle

If you want to mount Ecodome at an angle, you must follow all of

the instructions in the sections titled “General Recommendations” on page 1-9 and “Recommended Foundation Layout” on page 1-9 as

well as the instructions in this section.

1. Studio Color Ecodome only: The foundation must be either flat

(recommended) or at most 45° in any direction but not on a wall or

upside-down, as shown in Figure 1-2:

2. Cyberlight Ecodome only: The foundation must be either flat

3. You can make it less likely for water to enter through Ecodome’s

intake or exhause vents by orienting the vents as shown in Figure

1-4.

Studio Color Ecodome: Orient the vents 90° away from the direction of the incline.

Cyberlight Ecodome: If you want the mirror to be facing either directly up or down the incline, you must orient the base at 20° from the direction of the incline and rotate the Cyberlight fixture mirror head 20°. The procedure for rotating the mirror head is shown in Chapter 3 of the Cyberlight User Manual, v2.0 or later (p/n 60600016).

Note

You can install Ecodome on a smaller-sized foundation to make it less likely for debris or water to accumulate around Ecodome; however, the foundation must be at least 32” (81 cm) across or in diameter. The foundation must also be at least 6” (15 cm) above the ground level.

Unpacking Ecodome

Unpack the Ecodome boxes and verify that all components arrived complete and without any damage.

Save the Shipping Materials

Do not discard the shipping carton and packing materials. The carton and packing materials are specifically designed to protect the product during transport.

High End Systems, Inc. assumes no responsibility for products damaged during transport. Therefore, you should return a product for repair in its original shipping carton and packing materials.

Note

Before sending anything to the factory, be sure to call your HES dealer/distributor for a Return Material

Authorization (RMA) number. The factory cannot accept any goods shipped without an RMA number.

Shipping Ecodome to Another Location

Ecodome was not designed to be shipped to another location with a fixture installed. If you need to ship Ecodome to another location once you have assembled it, High End Systems, Inc. strongly recommends you do the following:

• Remove the fixture and repack it in its original packaging and container. (You can also pack the fixture in a custom Keal road

case; see the sections titled “The Ecodome Road Case” on page

2-22 and “The Ecodome Road Case” on page 3-38 for details.)

• Disassemble Ecodome and repack it in its original containers and packaging. (You can also pack Ecodome in a custom Keal road case.)

Caution Shipping Ecodome to another location with a fixture installed could result in damage to both the fixture and to Ecodome.

Inspecting the Contents

Ecodome currently ships in the following configurations:

• Studio Color Ecodome: Ships in three separate boxes—one for the dome, one for the housing and one for the base.

• Cyberlight Ecodome: Ships in four separate boxes—one for the dome, one for each of two housings and one for the base.

Carefully unpack each carton and inspect the contents for damage.

If any of the items listed in this section are missing or damaged you must notify both the shipping agent and your sales agent immediately.

Contents of the Dome Box

The dome box contains the dome and packing material. Carefully remove the dome and inspect it for cracks or scratches. If the dome is damaged in any way, carefully repack it in its original container and contact High End Systems Customer Service for additional

information. See the section titled “Getting Help” on page Intro-4.

Mounting Precautions

You should use three people to mount each Studio Color fixture: two people to hold the fixture while it is being secured in place, and one person to secure the fixture to Ecodome.

Always stand on a firm, stable surface. Do not try to lift the fixture

yourself to secure it to Ecodome; the ideal method is to use three people to install the fixture.

Procedure

This section explains how to mount the Studio Color fixture in

Ecodome.

Caution Use a 9/16” wrench or deep socket to make sure all the nuts on the Ecodome base are securely tightened before continuing.

This section describes how to connect the power and DMX (data) cabling to the fixture in Ecodome. This procedure is to be followed by a qualified electrician ONLY!

IMPORTANT The cores in the Studio Color fixture mains lead are colored in accordance with the following code:

• green and yellow: earth

• blue: neutral

• brown: live

After removing the paper backing, carefully apply the label from left to right, making sure the label fits completely within the recessed area. Use firm, even pressure when applying the label to prevent bubbles or bumps from forming.

Tighten the clamps using the tamper-resistant screwdriver tool, supplied with Ecodome. Tighten the clamps until you cannot move either the dome or the housing.

The custom-made Keal road case for Ecodome holds a fullyassembled Ecodome and is ideally suited for shipping Ecodome to another location (you must remove the fixture first).

You can ship the fixture either in its original packing material or in its own custom Keal road case (p/n 26070000 for a single Studio

Color fixture or p/n 26070001 for two Studio Color fixtures).

Figure 2-4 shows Ecodome installed in the Keal road case (p/n

28070001):

Chapter 3 Assembling the

Cyberlight

Ecodome™

Before Beginning

You must have already prepared the site (foundation and wiring) for Ecodome as described in Chapter 1 before following the

instructions in this chapter. Also see the section titled “Required

Tools and Materials” on page 1-1.

Overview of Operation

Cyberlight Ecodome was designed to make it easy for you to perform maintenance on the Cyberlight fixture, as well as to use

Cyberlight for architectural effects. Figure 3-1 below shows the two

fixture orientations:

Lock Cyberlight into either position using two positioning screws, one mounted on each of the two supports. Two more bolts secure

Cyberlight to the supports, assuring you that Cyberlight will not move provided you tighten all four securely.

To change positions, remove the three Phillips screws securing the air deflector to the blower fan, then loosen the two positioning screws and swivel the fixture to the desired position.

The 90° maintenance position affords easy access to Cyberlight’s internal components, as well as to the lamp assembly (for lamp replacement), and to the rear panel connectors and LEDs.

Use a 5/16” allen wrench to remove the center allen screw and use a 9/16” wrench to remove the locknuts inside the fixture. Loosen the T-handle on each side of the fixture.

Replace the two Cyberlight yoke plates with the two adapter plates shipped with Ecodome. Fully tighten the small allen screw, but do

not fully tighten the large allen screw.

Secure the supports to the Ecodome base with twelve

3/8” hex nuts (six on each side), using your 9/16” ratchet and deep socket. Make sure all nuts are fully tightened before

proceeding.

Use at least two other people to help lift Cyberlight onto the supports. Orient the fixture with the fans over the blower fan, as shown. Slide the 5/16” allen screws over the support brackets.

Finger-tighten the positioning screws into the holes on each side of the adapter plate, then fully tighten both screws using a flat head screwdriver.

When you feel the positioning screw enter the hole on the adapter plate, finger-tighten the positioning screws on both sides of the fixture. Then fully tighten both positioning screws using a flat head screwdriver.

The custom-made Keal road case for Ecodome holds a fullyassembled Ecodome and is ideally suited for shipping Ecodome to another location (you must remove the fixture first).

You can ship the fixture either in its original packing material or in its own custom Keal road case (part numbers 19070001 for a single

Cyberlight fixture or 19070002 for two Cyberlight fixtures).

Figure 3-5 shows Ecodome installed in the Keal road case (p/n

28070002):

Caution Shipping Ecodome to another location with a fixture installed could result in damage to both the fixture and to Ecodome.

Chapter 4 Maintenance

Before Performing Maintenance

You must observe the following cautions and warnings when performing any type of service on either Ecodome or the fixture installed in Ecodome:

WARNINGS (1) Disconnect power before servicing.

(2) Consult the documentation provided with the luminaire you are using for installation instructions and important safety information.

(3) Do not operate this equipment without complete lamp enclosure in place or if shields, lenses, or ultraviolet screens are damaged.

(4) Change shields, lenses, or ultraviolet screens if they have become visibly damaged to such an extent that their effectiveness is impaired, for example by cracks or deep scratches.

(5) Never look directly at the lamp while lamp is on.

Servicing the Fixture

Consult the documentation provided with the fixture you are using for recommended maintenance procedures (for example, changing a lamp).

Recommended Service Procedures

Some basic recommended service procedures for Studio Color and

Cyberlight Ecodome are listed below.

WARNINGS (1) Ecodome must be installed in accordance with local and national building and electrical codes.

(2) Risk of fire and electric shock. This product is to be installed by a qualified

electrician only.

Cyberlight Ecodome

• Lamp replacement: Remove both housings and the dome together if possible by removing the clamp around the base and lifting both housings and the dome off as one piece. If it is windy, or if you are working above ground level, secure the housings and dome before servicing the fixture. Then place the fixture in the 90° (maintenance) position as described in the

section titled “Overview of Operation” on page 3-1. More

details can be found in the section titled “Installing Cyberlight” on page 3-11. Lamp replacement procedures can be found in

the Cyberlight User Manual, p/n 60600016, v2.0 or later.

•

Cleaning or maintaining internal components (mirrors,

motors, lithos, dichroics): Same as “Lamp Replacement” above.

• Replacing air filters: Same as “Lamp Replacement” above, except you will need to remove the screws securing the air filter

covers. See the section titled “Replacing Air Filters” on page 4-4

for more information.

• Replacing air filters: Remove the clamp securing the dome to the housing. Remove the screws securing the air filter covers;

see the section titled “Replacing Air Filters” on page 4-4 for

more information.

All other fixture maintenance (replacing lamps, servicing

fixture): Remove the clamp securing the dome to the housing.

Then follow the instructions in the Studio Color User Manual, p/n 60600061.

Cleaning the Housings

You can use a cloth and non-abrasive household soaps and cleaners to remove built-up dirt from the housings.

Cleaning the Outside of the Dome

You must perform this procedure with the dome on the Ecodome unit.

1. If mud or other debris has accumulated on the dome, first spray the dome off with water.

2. After cleaning away built-up debris, use a soft cloth (a wet cotton rag, chamois or cheese cloth are recommended) and water or mild glass cleaner to wipe away dirt and debris from the outer dome surface.

Caution Do not use paper towels or other abrasive materials to clean the dome; doing so can leave scratches which may impair image quality.

3. Optional. As a final cleaning, dampen a soft cloth with denatured rubbing alcohol to thoroughly clean the dome’s surface.

Checking Intake/Exhaust

You must leave at least 24 inches (61 cm) clearance around both the intake and exhaust, located on opposite sides of Ecodome. See

Figure 1-5 on page 1-16 for the locations.

Inspect the intake and exhaust for any of the following:

• Grass clippings or leaves: Use your hands or a vacuum to clear away leaves and clippings.

• Water, or soil: Accumulations of water or soil within 24 inches

Replacing Air Filters

Check both intake and exhaust air filters whenever you service the fixture (for example, when you change lamps). Air filters must be replaced when they are visibly clogged with dirt.

You must use a Fram

CA 5056 air filter. You can purchase CA

5056 air filters from your High End Systems, Inc. dealer distributor

Oiling the Blower Motor

The blower motor should be oiled every six months with 10 to 20 drops of SAE 10W or 20W nondetergent oil (ML-type) or with electric motor oil.

Caution Remove power to Ecodome before following these instructions.

First, use the tamper-resistant screwdriver tool (shipped with

Ecodome) to remove the base clamp. (It is not necessary to remove the dome clamp). Carefully lift the housing and dome from the base.

Oil the blower motor as shown in Figure 4-1:

Conditions of Acceptability for ETL/CETL Recognition of Ecodome

Ecodome is an ETL/CETL Recognized Component when the following conditions of acceptability are met:

Ecodome must be installed in accordance with local and national building and electrical codes.

The foundation on which Ecodome is installed must be at least 6 inches (15 cm) above ground level; in addition, Ecodome must not be operated in low-lying areas subject to flooding or in areas subject to standing water.

Ecodome model “Ecodome Studio Color 115” is to be used only with Studio Color fixture model “Studio Color 575-S”.

Ecodome model “Ecodome Studio Color 230” is to be used only with Studio Color fixture model “Studio Color 575-S” or with Studio Color fixture model “Studio Color 575-M”.

Ecodome model “Cyberlight 208-230” is to be used only with Cyberlight fixture models

“CBL-01”, “CL-Litho”, “CBL-CX” and “CX Litho”.

Never look directly at the lamp while lamp is on.

Installation Instructions

Allow at least 24 inches (61 cm) clearance around intake and exhaust. Do not operate in low-lying areas subject to flooding or in areas subject to standing water.

If you have Studio Color model 575-M (without a heat sink), orient the LED display side away from the blower air flow.

Ecodome cannot be mounted on a wall or upside-down.

Maintenance Instructions

Die Schutzabdeckungen, Linsen und der UV-Schutz müssen ausgewechselt werden, wenn sie sichtlich dermaßen beschädigt sind, daß sie ihre Wirksamkeit einbüßen, z.B. infolge von Rissen oder tiefen Kratzern.

Nie direkt in die eingeschaltete Lampe schauen.

Installationsanleitungen

Um die Lufteinlaß- sowie um die Luftaustrittsöffnung ist ein Sicherheitsabstand von 61 cm (24 Zoll) erforderlich. Das Gerät nicht in tiefgelegenen Gebieten, die häufig

Wartungsanleitungen

Vor dem Ausführen von Servicearbeiten ist das Gerät von der Stromversorgung zu trennen.

Bei der Wartung der Leuchten ist sowohl der Lufteinlaß- als auch der Luftaustrittsfilter zu prüfen (z.B. beim Wechseln der Lampen). Die Luftfilter sind zu ersetzen, wenn sie sichtbar verschmutzt sind.

Als Filter ist ein Framâ CA5056 oder ein entsprechender Luftfilter zu verwenden. CA

5056 Luftfilter können bei Ihrem Vertragshändler von High End Systems, Inc. erworben werden (Teile-Nr.: 99170003).

Der Lüftermotor ist alle 6 Monate zu ölen. Hierzu 10 bis 20 Tropfen von SAE 10 W, 20 W-

Nicht-HD-Öl (Typ ML) oder Elektromotorenöl verwenden.

Cambie el blindaje, los lentes o las pantallas ultravioleta si nota una avería visible, a tal grado que su eficacia se vea comprometida. Por ejemplo, en el caso de grietas o rayaduras profundas.

Jamás mire directamente a la lámpara en tanto ésta esté encendida.

Instrucciones de instalación
