X-10 FREEZER FAILURE SENSOR Version 2 FF47V2

The Freezer Failure Sensor provides a way to sense dangerous temperatures or the early failure of a residential freezer. It interfaces to a standard X10 Powerflash device (purchased separately.)

The sensor is completely self contained and preset at the factory. There are three leads from the sensor of which 2 are used to attach to the

Powerflash terminals. The red lead should be attached to the rightmost terminal (marked +) and the BLACK or SILVER lead should be attached to the left terminal (marked -). The normal configuration will use the Black lead on the leftmost terminal (-) which will have the

Powerflash send an ON command if the temperature of the Freezer gets too high. (The LED on the sensor will turn Red as well.) When the temperature is correct, the LED will be Green and no ON command will be sent.

The Alternate Mode is to use the Silver (Shiny) Lead on the leftmost terminal(instead of the Black lead.) In this configuration the sensor will send an ON command when the freezer is cold and will send an OFF command if the temperature is too warm. In this mode the LED will show Red for cold and Green for when the temperature is too warm. Double-check these connections and polarities before plugging in the

Powerflash module and wall transformer. Do not connect both the Black and Silver Leads.

NOTE: Observe polarity in connecting to the Powerflash! Incorrect wiring to the Powerflash can destroy the device.

The sensor should be placed in the freezer and the wire leads extended out the freezer door to the Powerflash unit. The freezer door will open and close normally with careful placement of the wires routed through the weather-stripping. The sensor should be placed away from the sides, top, and bottom of the freezer and surrounded by food.

The Powerflash module provides terminals for inputs in two configurations according to the setting of the INPUT slide switch. For this sensor, the Powerflash module should be placed in Position “A” (slid to the left.)

Adjust the MODE slide switch to select the desired operation. In NORMAL mode (black wire on left terminal) upon sensing a high freezer temperature:

1) Turns on all Lamp modules set to the same house code as the Powerflash. Turns on Appliance modules set to the same house and unit code as the Powerflash. After the freezer temperature returns to normal, all modules set to the same house and unit code will be turned off.

2) Flashes all lamp modules set to the same house code. If the freezer temp returns to normal, all lights remain on.

3) Turns on Lamp and Appliance modules set to the same house code and unit code as the interface. After the freezer temperature returns to normal it will turn these same modules off. (This is the most common setting.)

OPERATIONS:

For best results, plug the Powerflash into a different power circuit then that used by the unit. Most US homes have a separate circuit for the refrigerator/ freezer. Let the sensor sit in the freezer for 15 minutes prior to use in order to allow the temperature to stabilize and begin normal operation.

The sensor can be tested by removing from the freezer. Within 15 minutes, the unit will trigger the Powerflash.
