PowerDVD 9 Features
TrueTheater™ Technology
TrueTheater™ Technology was designed by CyberLink with the purpose of giving the DVD format
a new lease on life by up-scaling and enhancing both video and audio quality—maintaining it’s
validity in today’s HD world. TrueTheater Technology automatically adjusts to suit the capabilities
of the system PowerDVD is installed on, while advanced users have the option to adjust settings
TrueTheater™ HD - Displays DVDs as they were meant to be displayed—in picture-perfect quality on
an HDTV. Using a sophisticated up-scaling algorithm, TrueTheater HD provides sharper, artifact-free
video quality while up-scaling from low to high resolutions.
TrueTheater™ Motion - Provides a smoother, judder-free video playback experience using frame
rate up-conversion technology. TrueTheater Motion is designed to take advantage of systems
based on hyper-threading technology and dual-core CPUs.
TrueTheater™ Stretch - Enables users to choose from preset stretch settings or lets them manually
tweak their own stretch parameters in order to customize their playback for the wide variety of displays
available in today’s market.
TrueTheater™ Lighting - Gives users a choice of powerful, lighting effects that bring a richer,
brighter, clearer picture to video content.
TrueTheater™ Surround - Creates multichannel, surround-like audio output for conventional
stereo speakers and headphones. TrueTheater Surround also provides expansion and effects for
up to 8-channel audio systems.
TrueTheater Technology delivers HD-Like Playback for DVDs
High-Definition Playback
PowerDVD 9 delivers uncompromising quality for high-definition movie playback on the PC. Support for
DVD as well as leading HD formats such as Blu-ray Disc, AVCREC and AVCHD means that users now have
one video player that plays it all.
PowerDVD 9’s HD Playback. Quality You Can Feel
Supported HD Formats - MPEG-4 AVC (H.264), MPEG-2 HD, WMV-HD, AVCREC, AVCHD and Blu-ray
Advanced Blu-ray Features - Using technologies defined under Profiles 1.1 and 2.0 of the Blu-ray
Disc specifications, PowerDVD offers a seemless experience for accessing BonusView features on the
PC. Support of BD-Live content ensures that users can handle Internet-connected Blu-ray Disc activities, such as multiplayer gaming, e-commerce, the downloading of movie trailers and subtitles, as
well as social networking.
Hardware Acceleration - Optimization for high-definition graphics processors from Intel, NVIDIA
and ATI ensure ultra-smooth playback on the PC.
Immersive Audio
HDMI 1.3 - The simultaneous transfer of up-to eight channels of high-definition audio over a single
cable means easy setup and freedom from the tangle of wires that usually goes hand in hand with HD
audio setups.
HD Audio: PowerDVD 9 supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, ensuring crystal clear
high-definition audio via home theater sound systems. These technologies deliver audio reproduction identical to the studio master recording—carrying up to 24-bit audio on up to 8 discrete audio
channels at 96 kHz or 2 channels at 192 kHz. HD audio is THE choice for audiophiles.
Virtual Surround - In addition to TrueTheater Surround, PowerDVD 9 includes additional virtual
surround sound and headphone technologies: Dolby Headphones and Dolby Virtual Speaker.
Virtual surround sound technology simulates 5.1 channels of sound in a two-channel environment,
getting the most from two-channel speaker systems as well as stereo headphones.

Cinema Mode
PowerDVD 9 has two different playback modes to support watching movies up close on a PC or
Notebook as well as from a distance on larger displays such as TVs. With the click of a button, a user
can switch from classic mode to Cinema Mode that displays menu items and movie information in a
larger format. Not only is it easier on the eyes but it’s perfectly suited to operation via remote control.
Because Cinema Mode is built to integrate with Microsoft Windows Media Center, users of Media
Center PCs can now enjoy Blu-ray playback support as well!
