Cisco NSS300 Series Smart Storage
Cisco Small Business
Protect Business Data and Increase Your Peace of Mind with a High-Performance,
Versatile Storage Solution
These days, investing in reliable data storage is a necessity for most small businesses. Your electronic
data is growing fast, and you need to be sure that your most critical business and customer information is
safely backed up—both locally and online.
Protecting this data is important to business continuity, as well as to meeting any regulatory requirements
that may apply to your business. A network-attached storage (NAS) device is the most efficient and
manageable way to centralize, protect, and share information. Online backup can provide additional peace
of mind by securely storing your business data offsite. By choosing a comprehensive solution that
combines both backup options, you get data protection you can trust.
Cisco NSS300 Series Smart Storage
®
Cisco NSS300 Series Smart Storage is a series of two-bay, four-bay, and six-bay desktop network storage
solutions that deliver comprehensive, affordable data protection and disaster recovery by combining onsite and
online storage. Cisco Smart Storage offers integrated online backup from Mozy, the world’s most popular online
backup service. The solution is easy to set up, configure, and manage with one simple, browser-based interface that
lets you choose what you want to back up locally and what you want to back up online.
Cisco Smart Storage offers built-in and add-on applications that extend usage beyond storage, giving you more
value for your money. This flexible solution is designed specifically for small businesses, with business-class
features such as data encryption to protect critical data. In addition, to protect your investment, Cisco Small
Business Support Service provides three years of affordable peace-of-mind coverage.

Features and Benefits
High-performance system speeds backup and facilitates information sharing
Powered by a dual-core Intel Atom processor, Cisco Smart Storage delivers class-leading performance. Its classleading performance means shorter backup times and faster file-sharing across multiple users.
Available integrated online backup provides comprehensive data protection
Cisco Smart Storage makes it easy to combine onsite and online backup for a comprehensive, flexible data
protection and disaster recovery solution. With online backup, your critical business data remains safe even if your
office network equipment is stolen or damaged. Built-in support for Mozy, the world’s most popular online backup
service, helps you centralize and automate backup of your critical business data—what you want to store locally and
what you want to back up online—all through one intuitive interface. Military-grade encryption helps ensure data
security, and Mozy’s global data centers employ state-of-the-art security, giving you additional peace of mind. Your
local partner can help you activate Mozy on your Cisco Smart Storage device, or you can easily purchase and
enable it yourself.
Built-in and add-on applications extend usage beyond storage
Your Cisco Smart Storage device comes with built-in applications and the capability to add new applications in the
future. Built-in applications include a user-configurable web server with an integrated WordPress publishing platform
that allows you to create and run blogs, forums, and internal websites from your Cisco Smart Storage device, and
built-in syslog and RADIUS servers that help simplify user authentication and management of your entire network.
Running applications like these on a Cisco Smart Storage device helps ensure that they are available at all times
and can eliminate the need for additional devices on the network, enabling your business to be more efficient.
Security features safeguard your stored data from unauthorized access
Cisco Smart Storage helps prevent unauthorized access to the device and enables highly secure remote and web
access. Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit on-disk data encryption helps protect critical business data,
even if the hard drives are stolen, a business-class feature most other small business storage solutions do not
provide.
Simplified configuration and management saves time
Cisco Smart Storage can be set up in minutes and is easy to configure and manage. Choose what you want like to
back up locally and what you want to back up online using one straightforward, browser-based interface. To save
time during account setup, you can use user account information from your Microsoft Windows Active Directory
server, allowing employees to access Cisco Smart Storage with their existing login names and passwords.
Flexibility supports the way you work
Cisco Smart Storage supports file sharing across Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux platforms. Choose from
multiple onsite and online backup modes, including PC to Smart Storage using any Microsoft Windows backup
client, Mac to Smart Storage using Apple Time Machine, and server to Smart Storage or Smart Storage to Smart
Storage using remote replication. You can also use Cisco Smart Storage as an iSCSI target for virtualized and
clustered environments.
Reliable, high-availability design means worry-free operation
Cisco Smart Storage offers Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) 0, 1, 5, and 6 configurations, which helps
safeguard your data, and a hot-swap design that allows you to replace a failed drive without turning off the device.
You can upgrade a disk configuration to a higher RAID level, or move data to newly installed hard drives, while Cisco
Smart Storage is running.

Energy-efficient operations save on operating costs and support green initiatives
Cisco Smart Storage incorporates energy-saving features that save money and support energy conservation
initiatives. You can schedule the device to power on and off according to your working hours, and you can use the
Wake on LAN feature to power on your Cisco Smart Storage device remotely. Hard disk drives spin down after
inactivity for additional power conservation. Integrated applications help save energy by reducing the number of
network-based devices that your small business needs.
