IP addresses and DHCP server static and dynamic IP addresses and DHCP service:
Each device within an IP network needs its own IP address. In simple systems, all devices are located within a local IP address range and within the same subnet. Thus, all devices can communicate with each other without routing. Within home networks the scheme is as follows:
192.168 . xxx . xxx
Prefix for local IP addresses according to class C of the convention RFC 1918 number of the subnet defines the allocation to a subnet, must be the same for all devices within one subnet individual number of the device in the subnet each device needs its own number for identification This number must not be assigned twice within one subnet. subnet mask
The subnet mask divides the IP address into a network part (including the subnet) and into a host part
(individual number of a device within the subnet). For the scheme mentioned above the subnet mask is always 255.255.255.0.
Why using static or dynamic IP addresses?
Usually a fixed IP address is assigned manually to a device that is providing a service within the network
(server). Devices that are only requesting service (clients), thus can be reached under this IP address. For the clients it is recommended to use the automatic assignment of IP addresses per DHCP service. The
DHCP service manages a pool of IP addresses for dynamic allocation. Within home networks such a service is available by default. Instead of its activation there is no further configuration necessary at the device. For service devices (e.g. FBI6119-0400) a manual management is necessary. Example: To receive the video image, the smartphone needs to know under which IP address the front-door station can be reached. The smartphone can have a dynamic IP address, because the device itself provides no service.

IP address
IP camera
IP network
A fixed IP address is allocated to each TCS:BUS camera and TCS:BUS front-door station. Thus, a specific switch-over via VSW04 or FVU1220 is feasible. Each AS address in the range from 0 to 63 can be assigned only once.
The resolution specifies with how many pixel an image is displayed. The more pixel, the better details can be seen in the enlargement. The resolution is specified in pixel columns by pixel lines or as total pixel amount. A VGA image consists of 640 columns and 480 lines (640 x 480). That is a total of
307200 pixel. A QVGA image consists of 320 columns and 240 lines (320 x 240). That is a total of
76,800 pixel.
The image refresh rate specifies how many images per second (I/s) are created and sent by the camera. As of 16 I/s the image sequence is perceived as fluent video sequence by the human eye.
Abbreviation for Complementary Metal Oxid Semiconductor Sensor. Sensor for energy-saving digitisation of image information. CMOS sensors are used as image sensors in digital cameras.
Abbreviation for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. DHCP is a service within IP networks. By using DHCP specific configurations such as IP address, subnet mask, DNS server and standard gateway can be allocated to devices automatically via a server (contrary to IP addresses that are manually assigned to single network devices).
The Domain Name System (DNS) is one of the most important services within the network. It translates e.g. the name of a website into an IP address. The main task of the DNS is to respond requests for name resolutions.
Logical grouping of network devices.
Ethernet is the most common LAN technology. Usually twisted pairs of conductors with special characteristics (e.g. CAT6) are used in Ethernet LAN'S. The most common Ethernet standards are
10BASE-T and 100BASE-T10. These standards enable transmission speeds up to 10 Mbit/s resp.
100 Mbit/s.
Computer that provides services within a computer network.
The IP address designates the address of a computer or device within an IP network. With an IP address a computer that is connected to an IP network can be identified unambiguously. By setting the IP address a communication to another computer/device can be established. Each IP address must be assigned only once in the respective network to avoid conflicts. IP addresses can be assigned fix that they always remain the same. Alternatively they can be assigned dynamically (or automatically) via DHCP. There are IP addresses with 4 and 6 bytes. The 4 bytes version is the most commonly used. In standard an IPv4 address is specified as decimal number from 0 to 255 separated by dots (e.g. 192.168.178.1). Due to the fact that there are more IP devices than unique IPv4 addresses, IP addresses are divided in private and public ones. Private IP addresses are not forwarded via router (they remain in the LAN). They start with the prefixes 10.*.*.*, 172.16-32.*.* and
192.168.*.*. The public IP addresses (globally unique) are assigned by providers.
An IP camera is special kind of camera. The special aspect of this camera is that images are transmitted via IP networks. Additionally to the camera component, network cameras contain a computer. The integrated computer compresses the image data and sends the data via the net. The computer essentially consists of a CPU, a flash memory and a DRAM memory. Due to the software of the network camera, the device can act as web server, FTP server, FTP client and E-Mail client in the net.
Packet-oriented data network based on the Internet Protocol (IP).
LAN (Local Area Network)
A LAN consists of several computer and the associated devices, which are using the same communication resources within a limited geographic area.

Mbit/s (Megabit per second) net mask (subnet and subnet mask)
Network
NTP
Pixel
To connect end devices such as computers, that are connected together via different lines and have shared access to data and devices (printer, network cameras).
The Network Time Protocol (NTP) is a standard for the synchronisation of clocks within computer systems via packet-based communication networks. NTP is using the wireless transport protocol
UDP. NTP has been especially developed to implement a reliable time specification via network with variable packet runtime.
One of the amount of tiny screen dots a digital image consists of. By its colour and intensity a pixel determines a tiny part of the entire image.
PoE (Power over Ethernet)
By using PoE a network device can be supplied via the same cable that is used for the network connection. This is an advantage in case of IP or remote monitoring, if it is too expensive to run a cable from the next power socket.
POP3
A subnet is a separated part of an organisation's network that can be identified. A subnet mostly represents all computer of one geographical location in one building or in the same LAN. By subdividing one network into subnets, each subnet can be connected to the internet via the same, shared network address. The subnet is part of an IP address. Based on the subnet mask the network router can split the IP address into network and host part. Based on the network part a router can decide, if an IP package is determined for a specific subnet or not.
Port
PTZ camera
The Post Office Protocol (POP) is a transmission protocol. Using this protocol a client can fetch E-
Mails from the E-Mail server. ... POP3 is an ASCII protocol. The control of the data transmission is based on commands that are send to the port 110 by default. ... permits only the listing, fetching and deleting of E-Mails at the E-Mail server.
Services, that are running on an IP device are distinguished by their port number and their transport protocol (TCP or UDP). Within a TCP or UDP packet the port numbers have to be specified always.
For some services standard port numbers have established. These are inserted automatically (e.g. port 80 for http) by the client programs. The user itself comes into contact with it only in exceptional circumstances.
Abbreviation for pan/tilt/zoom. The ability of a camera to move left, right, up and down as well as the ability to zoom into an image.
Router
RSS feeds
The MAC address (Media Access Control Address) is the hardware address of each network adapter. It it used to identify devices within a LAN. The MAC addresses are already assigned unique by the manufacturer. They cannot be changed by the user normally.
Measuring unit for the bit rate, this means the speed with that the bits are forwarded to a certain position. Usually the speed of networks is specified in Mbit. LANs are operated mostly with 10 or 100
Mbit/s. See also bit rate.
If the communication of two IP devices within an IP network includes several networks (see subnet), then it is called routing. A router is to be used. The device determines on which way a packet is forwarded as fast as possible to the target client. In case of devices for the end user, mostly the router is combined with a network switch in one device.
RSS feeds (Rich Site Summary, as of version 2.0 Really Simple Syndication Feed) are used to disseminate information quick and easy via internet. If an user has subscribed a RSS channel, the client is searching for updates in the RSS feed periodically.
SD card
Server
SIP (Session Initiation
Protocol)
SD Memory Card (Secure Digital Memory Card). The SD card is a digital storage which is based on flash memory modules.
In general the server is a computer program, which provides services for other programs on the same or another computer. A computer on which a service program is running, is also called a server. In practice the server can run many server and client programs. The computer program which provides the requested HTML sites or files for the client (browser) is called a web server.
The Session Initiation Protocol is a network protocol to establish, control and terminate a communication connection via computer network. SIP is an often used protocol in the IP telephony.

The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP ) is one of the protocol types that is used to exchange E-
Mails in computer networks. Primarily it is used to feed in and forward E-Mails
.
Secure Sockets Layer. Protocol for secure communication via internet, especially between client and server. As of version 3.0 the SSL protocol has been standardised and developed continually under the name TLS. Version 1.0 of TLS corresponds to version 3.1 of SSL.
All IP packets whose target address is not part in their own subnet are sent to the standard gateway.
The standard gateway is a router, which forwards the packet.
Hardware to connect several network devices (computer, cameras, printer etc.) within one LAN. As
PoE switch also the power supply for the (door) cameras can be implemented via the network cable.
Protocol to transmit status, error, alarm and other messages from programs/devices to a logging server. Note: The transmission of Syslog messages is carried out in plain text.
System-relevant actions can be forwarded to the IP address (Syslog server) listed here. If the IP
000.000.000.000 is set, the mode is deactivated.
The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is a connection-oriented network protocol that is based on
IP. TCP exchanges receipts and is more reliable than UDP, but requires more overhead and causes additional delays. TCP is used tending for control tasks and enquiries for which the focus is placed on a complete and confirmed data transmission.
The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is a connection-oriented network protocol that is based on
IP. It is not as extensive as TCP and does not contain an acknowledgement of receipt. Thus, the bandwidth can be used more efficient. TCP is used tending for data flows, for those the focus is placed on high throughput and little delay (e.g. multimedia data).
Voice over IP is defined as telephoning over an IP network. VoIP web interface The web interface is a graphical user interface. Via the web interface the user can communicate with the device.
Factory settings Device settings that are adjusted ex works and the device is delivered with. In case that it is necessary to reset the device to its factory settings, the settings made by the user will be deleted.
WLAN (Wireless LAN) WLAN is a wireless LAN that transmits data via radio. The end user are connected wireless to the network. The transmission in the main structure of the network is usually implemented via cable.
Time server (NTP server)
A service that is located in the network or internet that specifies time and date (preselection time server PTB Braunschweig). If the check box synchronisation is activated, the time is updated once a day.
Zoom + / − Zoom in (zoom +) or zoom out (zoom −) the video image in one step.
