If the installation of the Bike Max interferes in any way with the normal operation of the bicycle, DO NOT mount the unit. Under no circumstances should the user attempt to modify either the Bike Max or the bicycle in any way. Tools Required: + Both Phillips head and standard screwdrivers + Heavy-duty scissors + China marker or grease pencil for marking bicycle frame IMPORTANT! To ensure the proper function and safe opera- tion of your Bike May, follow the installation procedure in the sequence detailed below. {If vou run into any difficulty, you may want to ask an adult for help.) MOUNT MAIN UNIT TO BICYCLE FRAME Parts Needed: * Main Unit + 2 "T" Straps « 2 Thin Rubber Mounting Pads 2 Double-Face Tape Strips STEP 1 Determine the Best Mounting Location Hold the main unit up to the underside of the frame's top cross- bar. Make sure it does not interfere with any of the bicycle's controls. Leave a minimum clearance of 1” between the front of the main unit and any fixed object on the bicycle frame to allow room for battery installation. See Figure 1. IMPORTANT! Do NOT install the batteries at this time. Battery installation will be explained in detail later. \ Гоа Figura 1 — STEP 2 Install the “T" Straps Remove the battery door from the main unit by first unscrewing the long screw in the center hole, and then sliding the door away from the speaker as shown in Figure ZA. Now slide the two threaded "T" straps into the slots inside the battery door as shown in Figure 2B. Figure 24 STEP 3 Mark the Bicycle Frame Slide the main unit back onto the battery door. Do NOT tighten the long screw at this time. Using a china marker or grease pencil, mark the bicycle crossbar at the locations where the assembled unit's "T" straps overlap the top of the crossbar in the desired mounting y location, See Figure 3, F TE in Put the main unit assembly aside for movu. STEP 4 Attach Mounting Pads Apply à strip of double-face tape to the back side of two of the thin rubber mounting pads as shown in Figure 4, Now attach the mounting pads to the crossbar by pressing the pads to the marks already made. See Figure 5. oe Le A e PO \ a Figure 4 A \ —— — Figures STEP 5 Secure “T" Straps to Frame Turn the bicycle upside down so that it rests on its seat and handlebars. Remove the main unit from the battery door. EURE Important! If you plan on mounting \ Иа the Wheel Sensor to the bicycles rear fork (the recommended area), pass + the thin sensor wire through the Cr channel in the battery door as fe N nu. in Figure 6. If you plan on mounting PA the Wheel Sensor to the bicycle's front TE us fork (the optional area), just let the DD thin sensor wire hang freely. Ne — e Figure 6 Now wrap the battery door’s “T” straps around the crossbar, over the mounting pads, and UNDER any bicycle cables. Be sure to position the battery door so that it is facing the front of the bicycle. Insert the end of the straps back down into the battery door slots as \) shown in Figure 7A. Apply a slight pressure to the straps and tighten the screws until the threads catch. Do NOT fully tighten the straps yet. See Figure 7B. Now slide the main unit back onto the battery door. Do NOT tighten the long screw at this time. Figure 7A STEP 6 AY == om 7B Test Fit the Main Unit Return the bicycle to the upright position. Check that the main unit is oriented correctly on the crossbar and does not interfere with the brake cables, gear shift cables, or normal operating func- tions of the bicycle. STEP 7 Secure Main Unit into Position Slide the main unit off of the battery door. Tighten the battery door screws by alternating between the two screws. Do NOT overtighten! Use scissors to trim off any excess strap. Important! Leave at least one inch of excess strap. Now slide the main unit back onto the battery door. Do NOT tighten the long screw at this time. MOUNT THE WHEEL SENSOR AND MAGNET Parts Needed: * Wheel Magnet + Electronic Wheel Sensor Assembly * ] Thin Rubber Mounting Pad + 1 Double-Face Tape Strip REAR WHEEL INSTALLATION (recommended) STEP 1 Mount the Wheel Magnet ~~ Y. — MAGNET Attach the wheel magnet to the spokes o on the left side of the rear wheel as shown in Figure 8. Figure 8 © STEP 2 Position the Wheel Sensor Assembly Make sure the bicycle is in the upright \ position. Wrap the wheel sensor mounting strap around the left rear forkblade and under any bicycle cables. Insert the strap into the slot as shown in Figure 9. Sensor must * be mounted in the position shown. Apply a slight pressure to the strap and tighten the screw until the thread catches. Do NOT fully tighten the strap yet! Figure 9 Slide the sensor along the fork- blade until the sensor is parallel to the wheel magnet as shown in Figure 10A and within a О sensing distance of 1/8". See UN | Figure 10B. Mark the strap location on the forkblade with a grease pencil. Loosen the strap and slide the | sensor assembly away SENSOR „т О О \ from the mark for now. re] Figure 10A - lo igure STEP 3 Attach Mounting Pad о Apply a strip of double-face tape to the back side of the thin rubber mounting pad. Now attach the mounting pad to the forkblade by pressing the pad to the mark. See Figure 11. Figure 11 STEP 4: Secure Wheel Sensor to Forkblade Slide the sensor assembly back over the mounting pad. Tighten the strap and adjust the connection between the mounting strap and the electronic sensor (if necessary) so that the sensor is in the correct magnet sensing position. Do NOT overtighten! The sensor assembly should be snug enough so that it doesn't move on the forkblade. Rotate the wheel several times to make sure that the sensor does not make contact with the magnet. FRONT WHEEL INSTALLATION (optional) Follow Steps 1-4 as described above. Exception: Substitute the left front forkblade and front wheel of the bicycle for the left rear forkblade and rear wheel. Sensor must be mounted in the position shown. MOUNT INFO-PAD TO HANDLEBAR Parts Needed: . Handlebar Info-Pad Assembly . Wide Rubber Mounting Pad + 1 Double-Face Tape Strip STEP 1 Attach Info-Pad Assembly to Handlebar Locate a comfortable position on the handlebar where your thumb can easily reach the Info-Pad. See Figure 12. Make sure the placement of the Info-Pad does not interfere with gear shift- ing or squeezing the hand brake. Mark the position of the mount- ing strap on the back of the handlebar. Place the Info-Pad assembly aside for now. Figure 12 STEP 2 Attach Mounting Pad Apply a strip of double-face tape to the back side of the wide rubber mounting pad. Now attach the mounting pad to the handlebar by pressing the pad to the mark. See Figure 15. Figure 13 STEP 3 Secure Info-Pad to Handlebar Slide the Info-Pad's mounting strap over the mounting pad and UNDER any bicycle cables. Tighten the Info-Pad into position, making sure that your thumb can easily reach the pad's buttons. Do NOT over- tighten! The Info-Pad should not move when pressure is applied to any of the pad's buttons. See Figure 14. Figure 14 SECURE WIRES TO BICYCLE Use the eight wire ties to secure the wires to the bicycle frame. Important! Be sure to leave enough slack in areas that require flexibility of movement. Secure any excess wire. Make sure that the wires do not interfere with the standard operating features of the bicycle. See Figure 15 above. O THIN WIRE Figure 15 WARNING! Do not wrap the wire ties over the bicycle's shift or brake cables. The ties must pass underneath these cables.
