There are two options for line routing for these handlebars. New hydraulic lines can be purchased to follow the stock routing
procedures set by Harley-Davidson OR the steps below will allow a rerouting of the hydraulic lines to keep the stock ones installed.
FIG 1
1. Disconnect negative battery cable
2. For FLHR (Road King), FLTR (Road Glide Conventional and Pullback),
and FLHT (Electra Glide) instructions, see page 2.
3. Locate and disconnect the right and left side handlebar switch connectors.
4. Remove grips, front brake and clutch controls from handlebar
5. Remove switch housing and wire assemblies from handlebar
6. Remove all four handlebar clamp fasteners and carefully remove handlebar from risers
Note: When internally wiring Kliphanger handlebars, please reference model appropriate
service/electronics manual for correct wiring diagrams, connector disassembly and any
other control modifications being performed; i.e. new grips, brake components, clutch
control, etc.
Caution: Do not over stretch wires when reassembling! The slack is needed to allow for
movement of steering head. Wire lengthening and longer cables may be required.
7. ASSEMBLE HANDLEBARS
a. Place handlebar components on a soft cloth or holding fixture for assembly.
b. The slots in the U handlebar will face the front of the motorcycle to align with the slots
in the knuckles and stub bars
Note: Test fit the knuckles to choose your stub bar angle. If the small bore is angled up,
the final wrist position will be straighter than if they are angled down. The small bore
fasteners must be down when assembled.
c. Install the knuckles on the U handlebar until the wiring slots are aligned. The small knuckle bore will be in front of the bar. (See FIG 1) Then snug, but do not torque, the three fasteners on each side.
d. Slide stub bars, the bars the grips go on, into the small bore with the slot for the switch housing wiring on the bottom and align the wiring hole with the knuckle. Torque the 3 fasteners on each side to 140-155 in-lbs

Note: Make sure the stub bar with the notches in the end is on the right side.
8. Route the wires through the bar, into the knuckle and down to the wire hole in the bottom
of the U handlebar
Note: See appropriate service manual for torque specs and procedures for assembling
handlebar components and fasteners.
9. Install in reverse order making sure placement of handlebar does not interfere with rider
handling, windshield, control cables or ability to see safely into rear view mirrors.
10. Set your wrist angle and torque the large bore fasteners to 140-155 in-lbs
Caution: Check handlebars at left and right lock to ensure enough cable
and wire length is present.
11. Install handlebar plugs: Use provided silicone to secure plugs in handlebar ends.
