1.
Battery box and circuit breaker (CB) kits for battery
backup-time solution
Gamatronic offers all the components required to achieve a safe dc system with minimal maintenance
requirements. The battery backup time solution includes the following components:

Battery cabinets suitable for the chosen battery capacity (in Ah);
Battery cabinet wires and fuses kit suitable to battery capacity and UPS capacity;
CB kit fits the maximal power capacity of the UPS system.
Description of the (optional) CB kits
1.
The battery cabinet is strong, compact, and easy to assemble.
Includes battery box, wires and fuses kit.
The fuses are fast blow fuses for handling short circuit current and are rated for at least 500 Vdc.
2.
The optional circuit breaker kit (CB kit) fits the maximal power capacity of the UPS system.
Each set of 32 battery blocks (30 for Centric) – that’s 432 Vdc for Power+,
405 Vdc for Centric – is connected to the UPS through a CB.
The CB is designed to at least 500 Vdc.
The CB kit also includes fast blow fuses handling short circuit current.
3.
Wiring inside and outside battery box:
There are two standards of recommended wires between the battery and the CB Kit:
PVC, 70 ºC stranded wires (mm2) – recommended for low current ratings.
UL 1015 105 ºC stranded wires (AWG) – recommended for high current ratings.
Figure 1 shows the battery CB kits connecting a 40 Ah battery set to the UPS via the CB kit. The battery
set consists of two cabinets. The figure also shows an optional additional second battery set.
Figure 2 shows the battery CB kits connecting a 20 Ah battery set to the UPS via the CB kit. The battery
set consists of a single cabinet. The figure also shows an optional additional second battery set.switch
boxes.
Notes:
1.
We recommend that the battery cabinets be placed as close as possible to the UPS.
2.
Dc cables for connecting the battery cabinet(s) to the UPS can be ordered from your Gamatronic
representative.

Note:
A battery trip coil is available as an option. The battery trip coil is used to open the
battery circuit breaker when the EPO switch is activated.

Note:
A battery trip coil is available as an option. The battery trip coil is used to open the

Choosing the batteries, battery box kits and CB
kits
The process for choosing the ideal battery solution consists of three steps::
1.
Look for the most suitable battery capacity according to the backup time you desire.
2.
Choose the appropriate battery box kit and CB kit (optional).
3.
Choose one of the CB kits.
Chapter 4 walks you through the process for the Centric.
Chapter 5 walks you through the process for the PowerPlus.
Chapter 6 walks you through the process for the Premium 60.

For the Centric
Table 1 helps you choose the appropriate battery capacity in ampere hours (Ah) for any Centric UPS
systems, based on the desired backup time.
The tables assume the use of one set of 60 x 12 V battery blocks. This is the standard battery
configurations for the Centric.
1.
In the first horizontal line in Table 1, select the output capacity of your Centric in kW.
2.
In the column below the chosen output capacity choose the desired backup time in minutes.
3.
The Ah rating of the set of battery blocks that provide the desired backup time is on the same row, in
the table's first column line on the left. This is for 1 set of battery blocks. Two sets would provide
approximately twice the backup time.
Example: For a 100 kW Centric system, a desired backup time of 12 minutes requires a set of battery
blocks rated 90 Ah.
Remarks:
Wire kits for batteries with capacity higher than 90 Ah are available up on request.
Wire kits are designed for Gamatronic's standard battery cabinets. .

For PowerPlus ups systems
Table 4 helps you choose the appropriate battery capacity in ampere hours (Ah) for any PowerPlus UPS
system, based on the desired backup time.
The tables assume the use of one set of 64 x 12 V battery blocks. This is the standard battery
configurations for the PowerPlus.

In the first horizontal line in Table 4, select the output capacity of your PowerPlus in kVA.
2.
In the column below the chosen output capacity choose the desired backup time in minutes.
3.
The Ah rating of the set of battery blocks that provide the desired backup time is on the same row, in
the table's first column line on the left. This is for 1 set of battery blocks. Two sets would provide
approximately twice the backup time.
Example: Given a PowerPlus system with a capacity 100 kVA and a desired backup time of 15 minutes, the
appropriate battery rating is 90 Ah.

Important notes for P+ SA and P+ 19'' models:
• P+ SA 20-40 kVA UPS model includes the CB kit as part of the UPS system. There is no need to add
an external CB kit.
•
The CB kits for UPS P+ 20-40 kVA (see table 6) are relevant only for Classic or Freestyle models.
•
P+ SA 20-40 kVA UPS model battery wires kits does not include Fuse 5, 6 (see Figure 1).
Instead,there are dc fuses inside each module.
•
P+ SA 10 kVA UPS model battery boxes are designed to be installed close to the P+ SA UPS system.
The battery box for PowerPlus SA 10 UPS model includes fuses only.
•
The P+ 10-20 kVA 19'' UPS model is designed to be installed close by the battery box, in the same
rack.
The battery box for the P+ 10-20kVA 19'' UPS model includes fuses only.

you got from Table 4. The battery box kit includes: battery box, battery box inside wiring, battery box fuses,

Appendix A - Battery cabinets
Gamatronic recommends the following battery connection topology.
Topologies use fuses and circuit breakers.

CONNECTION TOPOLOGY
1. The battery bank of the Power+ UPS contains 64 x 12 V battery blocks. The 64 battery blocks are
grouped into two sets of 32 (384 Vdc each set). Each set of 32 battery blocks is connected to the UPS
separately.
The battery bank of the Centric 3x400 Vac and of the Premium 60 3x400 Vac UPS contains 60 x 12 V
battery blocks. The 60 battery blocks are grouped into two sets of 30 (360 Vdc each set. Each set of 30
battery blocks is connected to the UPS separately.
2. Each set of 30 or 32 battery blocks is connected to the UPS through its own connection box, which
includes two fuses.
3. On the UPS side there are also two connection boxes, one for each set of 30 or 32 batteries. Each of
these two connection boxes contains a fuse and circuit breakers.
4. All the fuses are fast blow fuses.
5. This arrangement is shown in Figure 1.
6. The boxes with two fuses and two disconnection elements should be installed on the battery cabinets.
The other two dc switch boxes are assembled as close as possible to the UPS.
7. The circuit breaker should be rated at least 440 Vdc.
Other connection topologies are availible on request.

Appendix B - Replacing battery blocks or battery
box fuses
Switch OFF one or both of the battery cabinet dc switches This disconnects from the UPS the
set(s) of batteries with which you intend to work.
IF YOUR SYSTEM DOES NOT HAVE DC SWITCHES,
THE UPS MUST BE SWITCHED OFF BEFORE YOU CONTINUE.
2.
Disconnect the fuses for the battery box on which you intend to work.
3.
Replace the fuse and/or any battery blocks that need to be replaced.
A thorough check of the batteries can be performed by measuring the voltage between the positive
(+) and negative (–) terminals of each battery. Batteries with a reading of less than 10.5 volts should
be replaced.
Note: Battery inspection brings the technician close to high dc voltage
and is to be performed only by trained, experienced personnel. Detailed
instructions for performing a battery inspection, including safety
instructions, are available upon request.
4.
If the connection is based on fuse holders, return the fuses to the holders and close the fuse link.
5.
The battery cabinet switch can now be switched ON.
