QUICK START GUIDE
This document provides a brief guide to installing the MASsoft Professional
software application.
Full installation details can be found in the Hiden Software Suite Installation
Guide reference
HA-085-093 found in the MASsoft Manual Set.

A. PC to Control Unit communication using the RS232 serial port.
B. PC to Control Unit communication using the USB port.
C. PC to Control Unit communication using an Ethernet connection.
Please read all the steps in the relevant section before starting the installation.
Please have all the necessary items to hand, including:
Hiden Software Suite CD-ROM
Hiden USB Flash Drive
Communication Cable
before starting the installation.
Start up sequence highlighted in yellow.
A. PC to Control Unit connection using the RS232 Serial Port
1. Switch on the PC.
2. Identify available COM ports
Right-click on the My Computer icon in Windows Explorer and select Properties.
Click the Hardware tab in the System Properties dialog box then click the Device
Manager button. In the Device Manager dialog box the list of available ports can be
found under the section labelled Ports.
3. Insert the Hiden USB Flash drive (memory stick)
The instrument is supplied with a Hiden Flash Drive also know as a memory stick.
Insert this into one the PC's USB ports.
A dialog box should automatically open prompting you to install the Hiden Software Suite.
Click OK and follow the prompts until you are asked to insert the Hiden Software Suite CD.
4. Insert the Hiden Software Suite CD
After inserting the CD follow the prompts to complete the Hiden Software Suite
installation.
5. Edit the Comms Configuration
During the installation the Comms Configuration Utility will run automatically.

When the Comms Configuration Utility window opens:
- select MASsoft and click the Next> button
- select Configure an existing instrument and click the Next> button
- select the Works Reference number of the instrument, click the Next> button
- select the instrument type, click the Next> button
- select Serial, click the Next> button
- select the appropriate COM port, click the Next> button
- select Exit configuration utility, click the Next> button
- click the Finish button
6. Connect the Control Unit to the PC
Use a Null Modem cable (one is supplied with the instrument) to connect the Control
Unit RS232 port to the PC COM port.
7. Switch on the Control Unit
The Control Unit will emit a short audible beep to indicate a successful start up.
8. Start MASsoft Professional
Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar. Point to Programs, Hiden
Applications, then click MASsoft Professional.

1. Switch on the PC.
The PC must be started before the Control Unit is switched on.
1. Switch on the PC.
2. Insert the Hiden Software Suite CD
The CD browser should start automatically.
3. Install the USB drivers
To communicate using the USB port appropriate drivers must be installed on the PC.
In the CD Browser click the button labelled Install.
On the install page select the Install USB Drivers option located at the bottom of the page.
4. Connect the Control Unit to the PC
Use a USB cable (one is supplied with the instrument) to connect the Control Unit to the PC.
5. Switch on the Control Unit
The Control Unit will emit a short, audible beep to indicate a successful start up.
Windows will automatically detect the presence of the Control Unit and will install the
drivers. The Control Unit will be assigned a virtual COM port.
e.g. CP210x USB to UART BridgeController (COM#)

A dialog box should automatically open prompting you to install the Hiden Software Suite.
Click OK and follow the prompts until you are asked to insert the Hiden Software Suite CD.
3. Insert the Hiden Software Suite CD
After inserting the CD follow the prompts to complete the Hiden Software Suite installation.
4. Disable Network Cable Detection
During the installation the Comms Configuration Utility will run automatically.
When the Comms Configuration Utility window opens:
- select Configure Network Cable Detection and click the Next> button
- Disable network cable detection, click the Next> button
- select Exit configuration utility, click the Next> button
- click the Finish button
5. Restart the PC
Right-click on the My Computer icon in Windows Explorer and select Properties.
In the System Properties dialog box click on the Hardware tab then click on the Device
Manager button. In the Device Manager dialog box a list of available COM ports can be
found in the section labelled Ports.
7. Insert the Hiden USB Flash drive (memory stick)
The instrument is supplied with a Hiden Flash Drive also know as a memory stick.
Insert this into one the PC's USB ports.
A dialog box should automatically open prompting you to install the Hiden Software Suite.
Click OK and follow the prompts until you are asked to insert the Hiden Software Suite CD.
8. Install MASsoft
Follow the prompts to complete the installation of the Hiden Software Suite.
6. Connect the Control Unit to the PC
Connect the Control Unit's 10/100 Base-T network connector to the PC's network connector
using the yellow UTP crossover patch cable supplied with the instrument
OR
If connecting to your main network via a hub use the grey UTP patch cable supplied with the
instrument and refer to the TCP/IP Implementation manual for configuration details.
7. Switch on the Control Unit
Windows must be running and have acquired a network address before the Control Unit is
switched on. This may take 1 or 2 minutes.
The Control Unit will emit a short, audible beep to indicate a successful start up.
Wait for 2 minutes before proceeding.
The "Limited or no network connectivity" pop-up message is normal.
9. Edit the Comms Configuration
During the installation the Comms Configuration Utility will run automatically.
When the Comms Configuration Utility window opens:
- select MASsoft and click the Next> button
- select Configure an existing instrument and click the Next> button
- select the Works Reference number of the instrument, click the Next> button
- select the instrument type, click the Next> button
- select USB, click the Next> button
- select the appropriate COM port, click the Next> button
- select Exit configuration utility, click the Next> button
- click the Finish button
10. Start MASsoft Professional
Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar. Point to Programs, Hiden Applications
then click MASsoft Professional.
8. Start the Comms Configuration Utility
Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar.
Point to Programs, Hiden Applications and click Comms Configuration Utility.
When the Comms Configuration Utility window opens:
- select MASsoft and click the Next> button
- select Configure an existing instrument and click the Next> button
- select the Works Reference number of the instrument, click the Next> button
- select the instrument type, click the Next> button
- select Network - TCP/IP, click the Next> button
- select the appropriate network card, click the Next> button
- select Exit configuration utility, click the Next> button
- click the Finish button
9. Start MASsoft Professional
Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar. Point to Programs, Hiden Applications
then click MASsoft Professional.
