Important Safeguards
1. Read, Follow, and Retain Instructions - All safety
and operating instructions should be read and
followed before operating the unit. Retain instructions
for future reference.
2. Heed Warnings - Adhere to all warnings on the unit
and in the operating instructions.
3. Attachments - Attachments not recommended by
the product manufacturer should not be used, as they
may cause hazards.
4. Installation Cautions - Do not place this unit on an
unstable stand, tripod, bracket, or mount. The unit
may fall, causing serious injury to a person and
serious damage to the unit. Use only manufacturerrecommended accessories, or those sold with the
product. Mount the unit per the manufacturer's
instructions. Appliance and cart combination should
be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, or
uneven surfaces may cause the appliance and cart
combination to overturn.
5. Cleaning - Unplug the unit from the outlet before
cleaning. Follow any instructions provided with the
unit. Generally, using a damp cloth for cleaning is
sufficient. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol
cleaners.
6. Servicing - Do not attempt to service this unit
yourself. Opening or removing covers may expose
you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all
servicing to qualified service personnel.
7. Damage Requiring Service - Unplug the unit from
the main AC power source and refer servicing to
qualified service personnel under the following
conditions:
• When the power supply cord or plug is damaged.
• If liquid has been spilled or an object has fallen
into the unit.
• If the unit has been exposed to water and/or
inclement weather (rain, snow, etc.).
• If the unit does not operate normally, when
following the operating instructions. Adjust only
those controls specified in the operating
instructions. Improper adjustment of other controls
may result in damage, and require extensive work
by a qualified technician to restore the unit to
normal operation.
• If the unit has been dropped or the cabinet
damaged.
• If the unit exhibits a distinct change in
performance, this indicates that service is needed.
8. Replacement Parts - When replacement parts are
required, the service technician should use
replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or
that have the same characteristics as the original part.
Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire,
electrical shock or other hazards.
9. Safety Check - Upon completion of servicing or
repairs to the unit, ask the service technician to
perform safety checks to ensure proper operating
condition.

10. Power Sources - Operate the unit only from the type
of power source indicated on the label. If unsure of
the type of power supply to use, contact your dealer
or local power company.
• For units intended to operate from battery power,
refer to the operating instructions.
• For units intended to operate with External Power
Supplies, use only the recommended approved
power supplies.
• For units intended to operate with a limited power
source, this power source must comply with
EN60950. Substitutions may damage the unit or
cause fire or shock.
• For units intended to operate at 24VAC, normal
input voltage is 24VAC. Voltage applied to the
unit's power input should not exceed 30VAC.
User-supplied wiring, from the 24VAC supply to
unit, must be in compliance with electrical codes
(Class 2 power levels). Do not ground the 24VAC
supply at the terminals or at the unit's power
supply terminals.
11. Coax Grounding - If an outside cable system is
connected to the unit, ensure that the cable system is
grounded. U.S.A. models only - Section 810 of the
National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA No.70,
provides information regarding proper grounding of
the mount and supporting structure, grounding of the
coax to a discharge unit, size of grounding
conductors, location of discharge unit, connection to
grounding electrodes, and requirements for the
grounding electrode.
12. Grounding or Polarization - This unit may be
equipped with a polarized alternating current line
plug (a plug with one blade wider than the other).
This safety feature allows the plug to fit into the
power outlet in only one way. If unable to insert the
plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the
plug still fails to fit, contact an electrician to arrange
replacement of the obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the
safety purpose of the polarized plug.
Alternately, this unit may be equipped with a
3-wire grounding plug (a plug with a third pin, for
grounding). This safety feature allows the plug to fit
into a grounding power outlet only. If unable to insert
the plug into the outlet, contact an electrician to
arrange replacement of the obsolete outlet. Do not
defeat the safety purpose of the grounding plug.
13. Lightning - For added protection during a lightning
storm, or when this unit is left unattended and
unused for long periods of time, unplug the unit from
the wall outlet and disconnect the cable system. This
will prevent damage to the unit due to lightning and
power line surges.

For Indoor Product
1. Water and Moisture - Do not use this unit near
water - for example, in a wet basement, in an
unprotected outdoor installation or in any area
classified as a wet location.
2. Object and Liquid Entry - Never push objects of
any kind into this unit through openings, as they
might touch dangerous voltage points or create
short circuits, resulting in a fire or electrical
shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the unit.
3. Power Cord and Power Cord Protection - For
units intended to operate with 230VAC, 50Hz,
the input and output power cord must comply
with the latest versions of IEC Publication 227 or
IEC Publication 245.
Power supply cords should be routed so they are
not likely to be walked on or pinched. Pay
particular attention to location of cords and plugs,
convenience receptacles, and the point of exit
from the appliance.
4. Overloading - Do not overload outlets and
extension cords; this can result in a risk of fire or
electrical shock.
For Outdoor Product
Power Lines - An outdoor system should not be
located in the vicinity of overhead power lines,
electric lights or power circuits, or where it may
contact such power lines or circuits. When
installing an outdoor system, extreme care should
be taken to keep from touching power lines or
circuits, as this contact might be fatal. U.S.A.
models only - refer to the National Electrical
Code Article 820 regarding installation of CATV
systems.
Safety Precautions

(OR BACK). NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS
INSIDE. REFER SERVICING TO QUALIFIED
SERVICE PERSONNEL.
This symbol indicates the presence of
uninsulated “dangerous voltage” within the
product’s enclosure that can cause an electric
shock.
This symbol indicates the presence of
important operating and maintenance
(servicing) instructions in the literature
accompanying the appliance.
Installation should be performed by qualified
service personnel only in accordance with the
National Electrical Code or applicable local
codes.
Power Disconnect. Units with or without
ON-OFF switches have power supplied to the
unit whenever the power cord is inserted into the
power source; however, the unit is operational
only when the ON-OFF switch is in the ON
position. The power cord is the main power
disconnect for all units.
Cover Removal
WARNING: Removal of the cover should only be
performed by qualified service personnel - not user
serviceable. The unit should always be unplugged before
removing the cover and remain unplugged while the
cover is removed.
For Rack-mount Product
1. Ventilation - Do not place this equipment in a
built-in installation or rack, unless proper
ventilation is provided, or the manufacturer's
instructions were followed. The equipment must
not exceed its maximum operating temperature
requirements.
2. Mechanical Loading - When rack-mounting the
equipment, ensure that a hazardous condition is
not created by uneven mechanical loading.
24VAC Units
Do not exceed 30VAC input. Voltage applied to the unit's
power input should not exceed 30VAC. Normal input
voltage is 24VAC. User supplied wiring from 24VAC
supply to unit must be in compliance with electrical codes
(Class 2 power levels). Do not ground 24VAC supply at
power supply terminals or at unit's power supply terminals.
This equipment is to be isolated from the mains
supply by a limited power source as specified in
EN60950.
220-240V, 50Hz Power Cords
220-240V, 50Hz power cords, input and output, must comply
with the latest versions of IEC Publication 227 or IEC
Publication 245.

UNPACKING
This equipment should be unpacked and handled with
care. If an item appears to have been damaged in
shipment, notify the shipper.
Verify that all parts shown in the Parts List have been
included. If any items are missing, notify your Bosch
Security Systems Sales or Customer Service Representative.
The original packing carton is the safest container in
which to transport the unit. Save it for possible future use.

Unpacking the Housing
Remember that the PRS-Housing is a pressurized
enclosure. To prevent damage, care should be used at
all times when handling this product. Inspect the
enclosure upon opening the box to ensure that the unit
has not been damaged during shipping. Domes that
have been cracked or show any signs of damage
should be replaced immediately.

DESCRIPTION
This 24 VAC pressurized housing enclosure is
constructed to accept an AutoDome camera module.
The housing is capable of containing a maximum of
35 kPa (5 psi) of nitrogen gas injected through a
Schraeder valve located at the top of the unit. A
pressure relief valve, located under the vented top
cover, is designed to release pressure in excess of
35 kPa (5 psi). A 10-pin hermetic connector, located
in the center of the top-coupling bracket, contains
259 mm (10.2 in.) long leads for all incoming power,
control and video connections. The leads are supplied
with a standard BNC and two screw-down connectors.
The housing is supplied with two heaters (19 W and
25 W), and two circulation blowers. Service to the unit
is accomplished by removing the lower dome and
ring assembly.

5.1
INSTALLATION
Important Safeguards
1. Always use safety goggles when servicing
the unit.
2. Never use an unregulated gas supply to
pressurize the enclosure. The valve should be
regulated with a maximum of 70 kPa (10 psi)
output.
3. PRESSURIZE USING DRY NITROGEN ONLY!
Be sure to periodically examine the unit and its
supporting structure. If the dome shows any
signs of wear, such as stress cracking, it should
be replaced immediately.
5.2
Install Mount and Coupling
1. The standard model is designed as a pendant
mount housing with a 1.5 in. NPT housing
coupling provided (to be used with a standard
1.5 in. NPT pipe). Alternately, the housing can
be used with other brackets that are designed
with 1.5 in. male pipe threads.
2. Install the pendant pipe or wall mount bracket
in the desired location. Be sure the bracket is
properly and securely mounted to a supporting
structure capable of rigidly holding the weight
of the entire unit. (Refer to the instructions
provided with the mount for complete
information.)
3. Pipe threads should be clean and rust free.
Although a hermetic connector protects the
inside of the enclosure from all moisture, it is
still recommended that a thread sealer be used
on the threads of the housing coupling. Attach
the housing coupling to the bracket or pendant
pipe (Figure 1).
5.3
Open the Housing
1. Release any pressure that may have built up
during shipping by pressing down on the
Schraeder valve to bleed off the excess pressure.
2. Open the housing by loosening the nine (9)
captive screws located on the housing ring, next
to the lower clear dome. Be careful not to back
the screws all the way out. Twist the dome
slightly in a counter-clockwise motion to
remove it (Figure 2). Remove the protective
barrier from the PRS-HOUSING and discard.
3. Be careful not to lose or damage the O-ring that
is in the groove of the housing. Care must be
taken to avoid getting any dirt on this O-ring,
since this could cause an incorrect seal when the
housing is re-assembled.
5.4
Calibrate Housing
The PRS-HOUSING features an internal low-pressure
sensor alarm. Before installing the camera into the unit,
the PRS-HOUSING must be calibrated to the local
atmospheric pressure. The procedure is as follows:
1. Apply POWER to the unit. The red LED
will turn ON and remain constant.
2. After approximately 30 seconds, the LED
will start blinking. This indicates the unit is
ready to be calibrated.
3. Press the calibration switch located next to the
red LED. When the switch is released, the LED
will turn off which indicates the calibration has
occurred and is permanently stored.
4. Turn the power OFF.
5. The unit is now ready to install the camera.

This procedure must be completed within 4
minutes of powering up the unit (before the
LED goes out), or the calibration will not take
effect. If this should occur, power off the unit
and repeat the above procedure.
Once the housing is calibrated, no further
adjustment is required. However, the unit may
be recalibrated anytime the unit is powered up
by following the above steps.

Install Camera Module
1. Place the upper housing back into the shipping
carton to hold it in place while inserting the
camera module.
2. While holding the top of the camera, rotate the
lower portion and align the camera dome
yellow markers.
Address the Camera and Switch
Settings
1. To use Fast Address, refer to the Instruction
Book for the AutoDome once the installation
has been completed. Otherwise, set the address
switch as shown in STEP 5.4.2. Setting the
address selector to 0000 causes the AutoDome

2. Verify that the large O-ring is still correctly
seated in the groove. (If required, use the
included packet of O-ring grease to secure the
O-ring into the groove.)
3. Reattach the housing dome and hand-tighten
the nine (9) captive screws using an alternating
tightening pattern to achieve a uniform result.
Do not over tighten the screws. First tighten to
the point at which the gap between the ring and
the housing top closes. Then tighten each screw
without exceeding a maximum torque value of
50 inch-pounds.

Pressurize the Housing
Dry nitrogen air is inserted in the enclosure through
the Schraeder valve located on the top of the unit. A
pressure release valve is located under the housing cap
found in this same location. Air is vented from the
pressure release valve between the housing top and
the cap.

Before pressurizing the housing, be sure that
the two (2) cap vents are free of obstructions
such as ice or debris (see Figure 4).
Pressurized housings provide maximum protection for
CCTV cameras and lenses. The charge of dry nitrogen
inside the housing eliminates the effects of moisture,
dust, insects, and corrosive exhaust fumes, allowing a
longer life for your surveillance equipment.
To pressurize the housing, you’ll need the following:
1. A tank of dry nitrogen
2. A regulator on the tank
3. A hose with an air chuck to connect the
regulator to the housing’s intake valve
5.8.1 Dry Nitrogen
Nitrogen is a readily available; check your local yellow
pages for a medical or industrial gas provider. If the
tank is to be carried from location to location, a size of
1 cubic meter (40 cubic foot) is recommended. This
should be enough to refill 30 individual housings.
Handle the tanks with care. Although nitrogen is an
inert gas, the tank is highly pressurized and if the valve
or regulator is damaged, the tank could be dangerous.
Tanks of dry nitrogen can be kept for several years.

5.8.2 The Regulator
The tank will have a standard 580 fitting, but a
regulator will be required. Recommended regulators
for the tank are: Harris #9296-15-580 or #425-15-580.

5.8.3 The Hose
The purge valve, called a "Schraeder" or "dill" valve,
is similar to the air intake valve on car tires or bicycle
tires. To connect the regulator to the purge valve on
the housing, you’ll need a hose with a 1/4-inch barb
on one end, and an air chuck on the other. The barb
connects to the regulator, and the air chuck connects
to the Schraeder valve. These hoses can be obtained at
local auto parts stores.
5.8.4 Pressurizing the Housing
1. Set the gauge on the regulator to between of
35 kPa (5 psi) and of 70 kPa (10 psi).
2. Place the air chuck on the Schraeder valve, just
as you would on a tire, and press down to begin
filling.
3. Air should start venting from the pressure
release valve after a few minutes. Once you’ve
completed filling the housing, check the
pressure with a pressure gauge. It should be
between 21 kPa (3 psi) and 35 kPa (5 psi).
4. After you have verified the pressure, reconnect
the air chuck and purge the housing for an
additional five (5) minutes.
Locate the internal humidity strip on the
camera bracket (easily visible with the bubble in
place), and ensure that it has changed from pink
to blue.
Periodic checks and repurging are
recommended.

Wire and Mount the Housing
Assembly
1. Install the 4-pin mating connector (supplied) to
the incoming power wires. See Figure 4 for wire
connections.
Refer to Table 2 for color coded connections
and Table 3 for max recommended wire lengths
between the pressurized housing and the
external power supply.

3. Loop the safety cable from the upper housing
coupler over one of the Set Screws of the pipe
mount coupling to temporarily hold the housing.
See Photo 8.
4. Plug the 4-pin Power Connector of the housing into
its mating connecter, which was installed in step 1.

NOTE: If the Alarm Input is being used, it
must be connected to a dry contact. To activate
the Alarm Input, the dry contact must change
state between the Alarm Input and the Alarm
Ground. For example, to activate Alarm Input
#1, the dry contact must change state between
Pin 8 and Pin 9.

5. Plug the 5-pin Control Connector of the housing
into its mating connector, which was installed in
step 2.
6. Connect the housing video BNC connector into
its mating video-in connector.

7. While holding the housing in place, undo the
safety cable and feed the wires and connectors
back up the pipe. Complete mounting the housing
by twisting it unto the pipe mount coupling.
8. Secure all three (3) Set Screws on the pipe
coupling. See Photo 8.
9. Clean the outside of the dome with a texwipe,
and ensure that the cap is on the Schrader Valve.
