Child Passenger Safety Program

Child Passenger Safety Program
Did You Know:
§ Most car seats expire after 6 years. (Always
check the manufacturer’s date.)
§ It is unsafe to use second-hand used car seats
or car seats purchased from garage sales.
§ It is important to always follow the
manufacturer’s instructions for proper
installation. Do not modify your car seat.
Modifications can compromise the safety of
your child.
§ It is important to register your car seat when
you first purchase it so you can be notified of
future safety recalls.

New York State Law:
§All children must be restrained in an
appropriate child restraint system while
riding in a motor vehicle, until they reach
their 8th birthday.
§ An appropriate child restraint system is
one that meets the child’s size and weight
recommended by the manufacturer.
§ The safety belt in your vehicle is not
designed for children. A booster seat raises
your child up so that the safety belt fits
your child correctly and provides better
protection.
