The NL-32 sound level meter is part of the latest generation from Rion. Based on proven technology, the new models
include a built-in USB interface with support for CompactFlashTM [CF] cards. These cards may be memory-only, or may
include specialised software functions. Broadband measurement results may be stored or logged directly to a CF card,
making it easy to collect large amounts of data and to transfer results to computer without special interfacing or software.
The version offered by Tech-Rentals may be used with a standard CF memory card, similar to those used with many
digital cameras. However the unit is supplied with a Rion software/memory card for real time frequency band analysis [1/1
and 1/3 octave]. Once this card is loaded the instrument may be used for rapid accumulation of the sound “spectra” as
well as for manual storage of the results. Later transfer of data to a PC is extremely easy and requires only standard CF
reader facilities. Data sets from 1/1 and 1/3 octave scans are produced as “.rnd” files which may be read , or plotted using
programs such as Excel®
The performance of the NL-32 is excellent, with frequency and noise specifications compliant with Type 1 and Class 1
standards. This ensures that the instrument will provide results suitable for use in current and proposed OH&S
procedures. At the same time the low noise-floor, and the wide dynamic range of the NL-32 make it suitable for more
general studies. To ensure best practice the meter, filter card and field calibrator are offered by Tech-Rentals with “joint”
NATA certification
The instrument is simple and intuitive in use, with a combination of function keys and screen icons for rapid set-up. The
large backlit LCD screen shows results in both digital and analog [bar-graph] formats. The display may also be used to
present real time graphics for sound level readings, or for routines such as 1/1 & 1/3 octave filtration.
For added convenience the NL-32 may be powered by internal batteries or from an external power source,
interfaces are provided for analog output or direct transfer to computers or printers.
and
The Rion NL-32 from Tech-Rentals is suitable for routine OH&S sound measurements or for noise surveys. The low
noise-floor makes the instrument especially suitable for “nuisance” measurements in quiet environments – at night, or in
field applications such as windfarm assessments. The 1/1 and 1/3 octave real time routines allow the unit to be used for
engineering comparisons, noise tracing in complex environments such as vehicles, and in some acoustic survey work.
