The user should be aware that, if the equipment is used in a manner not specified by
the manufacturer, the protection provided by the equipment may be impaired. All of the
Scienceware® Secador® Desiccator Cabinets are molded in sections which are sealed tight
by unexposed steel bolts. This hardware is factory assembled and no attempt should
be made to alter the tightness of the nuts.
NOTE:
The hygrometer supplied with this desiccator cabinet is not a precision instrument.
It registers high or low humidity, but is not an accurate indicator of the percent of relative
humidity in the cabinet.
If the hygrometer reading changes to a lower value, then drying is taking place. If a more
precise measure of the actual relative humidity in the cabinet is required, a portable,
accurate hygrometer may be placed in the cabinet and read through the door.
HYGROMETER CALIBRATION
The Hygrometer dial should be checked against a known accurate hygrometer.
If the reading is off, then reset it by turning the screw in the center of the back with a
screwdriver. Another method of checking is to remove the dial from the door by pulling out
the rubber retaining tube, and then wrap the hygrometer in a wet cloth for a half hour.
The pointer should read 94 to 96%. If it does not, re-adjust the instrument by turning
the screw in the center of the back with a screwdriver. After recalibration, re-insert the dial
into the door making sure that it is properly oriented for reading, then replace the rubber
retaining tube.
All Scienceware® Secador® Desiccator Cabinets are molded of a clear/blue
rigid plastic material which allows for easy observation of contents. The doors
are hinged and gasketed and each is fitted with a hygrometer dial calibrated from
0 to 100% Relative Humidity. Each cabinet has a movable raised bottom shelf
under which desiccant cartridges can be added. Polystyrene shelves are ribbed
for strength and perforated for air exchange.
Secador® Desiccator Cabinets, vertical profile, are stackable. The 1.0, 2.0,
and 3.0 model can be stacked up to 3 high, the 4.0 vertical profile units up to
2 high. The 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, vertical models can be stacked on a 4.0 vertical. A
lock loop on the door permits a padlock or a tamper evident tag to be used to
prevent unauthorized opening.
To clean the cabinet, use a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleansers
which will leave scratches. We recommend the use of Bel-Art Products
Aquet™ Detergent, Cat. No. F17094-0030 or Cleanware™ Plastic
Laboratory Cleaner Cat. No. F17084-0000.

The cabinet should be placed on a horizontal surface with the two door
latches at the top. The door is fitted with an electronic dryer housed in a
polycarbonate case. The two apertures in the door must be left
unobstructed. Remove the 24-volt Secador® transformer from the
package.(use transformer model MTA48240833) With the transformer
UNPLUGGED from the power source, join plastic connector on the end
of the power cable from the transformer with similar plastic connector on
the end of the cable on back side of desiccator cabinet. Plug the
transformer into the proper electrical outlet. The internal green light in
the auto-desiccator module glows when the unit is in operation. The
dehumidifying cycle will start immediately causing the cabinet’s moisture
to be absorbed inside the door’s electronic dryer. This will be followed by
a brief heating cycle within the electric unit and then by a discharge
cycle when the moisture is released to the external atmosphere. Initially
the cabinet should be left closed for approximately 8 hours to bring the
relative humidity reading down into the 25% range. The electrical unit
contains four air flow ports that are opened and shut by flapper valves.
These valves were carefully aligned during factory installation to ensure
proper function. DO NOT tamper with or pull on the valves.

Two removable polystyrene ribbed shelves are provided. Each is
perforated for air movement. With all shelves in place, the distance
between shelves is 111 mm (4.375”) minimum. When filling the cabinet,
try to keep the door open a minimum of time.
