The precipitation gauge is measuring the precipitation striking the surface of the earth, both solid and
liquid. The precipitation strikes a collector with a surface area of 500 cm² and then travels via a run-in
sieve into a catchment tank. The weight of this tank is determined very accurate by a special sensing
element. The software of the integrated processor unit eliminates automatically the following effects:
- Wind vibration
- Particles falling into the catchment tank
- Unreal jump transition
- Evaporation
- Temperature fluctuation
The unit has two output possibilities. The classical contact output and additionally a serial interface
according RS485. Via this interface also additional parameters can be red out like total weight in the
tank, heater on/off etc. The delivery comprises both precipitation gauge and pedestal with mounting
flange.

The rain gauge measures and calculates the one minute sum of precipitation, total weight and rain
indication yes/no. The Gealog measuring interface pools every minute the rain gauge to receive
the measured data:

The orifice of the rain gauge is equipped with heating wire to assure heating during ambient
temperature below +10°C (temperature treshold is user definable) and precipitation was detected.
This procedure can save heating power. The heating control unit is implemented in the rain gauge
electronics itself. Heating power is approximately 15 W and can be wired independently to the
power for electronics
