DESCRIPTION
The DCPS is a DC power supply with an adjustable voltage
regulator. It offers both half-wave and full-wave bridge
rectification circuits as standard features.

There are two versions of the DCPS, LVR which is
adjustable between 4.5V and 17V DC, and the HVR which
is adjustable between 13V and 26V DC. Both versions use
a heat-sync on the voltage regulator to provide sufficient
heat dissipation for higher output current.

OPERATION
WIRING CONFIGURATION
DCPS SCHEMATIC
A 24V AC power source is applied to either the full-wave AC
input or the half-wave AC/DC input depending on the type
of system it’s connected too. The AC voltage Is rectified,
filtered by C1, and then regulated by the LM317T. 24V DC
can be applied to the half-wave AC/DC input, for those
applications where a lower dc voltage is required. The
voltage is regulated by a current feedback signal created by
resistors R1, R2, & R3. The potentiometer in parallel with
R2 provides the adjustment for the DC voltage output. The
LM 317T voltage regulator is equipped with internal overcurrent limiting and thermal-shutdown circuitry providing
short circuit protection.

V RTD SENSORS
The DCPS is adjusted for 24V DC to power multiple (up to
12), 4 to 20 mA transmitters such as the UMATR, DWYER,
TCI’s or ACI’s %RH sensors. The DCPS-HVR is adjustable
between 13 and 26VDC and rated for 250mA load with 24V
AC applied to fullwave bridge rectifier input (terminals 1 & 2).
The DCPS is adjusted for 5V DC output to provide the
reference voltage for thr 1000V RTD temperature sensors.
An 2.74kV pullup resistor is used for each sensor, this
voltage divider provides a differential of 1.267 to 1.475V DC
for a 0 to 1008f temperature differential.
APPLICATION - 3 POWERING DIM 2 AND SENSOR
APPLICATION - 4 POWERING MULTIPLE DIM2's
The DCPS is used to power a Analog Devices temperature
sensor (AD590k) and a DIM2/15V/AD590 digital display setup
for the 15V DC power supply.
The DCPS is used to power multiple panel mounted digital
panel meters (DIM2/5v/xxx). The DCPS-LVR is adjusted for
5V DC to power the DIM2 panel meters.

APPLICATION - 5 POWERING AD590NR TEMP SENSOR
APPLICATION - 6 POWERING UMATR TRANSMITTER
The DCPS, powered by the Smart II AUX 24V AC output, is
adjusted for 15V DC to power multiple (up to 20) AD590
temperature sensors. The 15V DC supply enables the AD590
to drive into a high enough load resistor on the CRM2 range
module to allow very narrow temperature ranges (D208f) to be
read by the Smart II controller.
The DCPS, powered by the Smart II AUX 24V AC output, is
adjusted for 24V DC to power (up to four) UMATR, 4 to 20mA
loop transmitters. The UMATR is configured for an AD590
temp sensor and can be set for temperature ranges as narrow
as 208f. This application is recommended for distances
greater than 25 feet to avoid noise problems.
APPLICATION - 7 POWERING 2 WIRE TRANSMITTERS
APPLICATION - 8 POWERING 3 WIRE TRANSMITTERS
The DCPS, powered by the Smart II AUX 24V AC output, is
adjusted for 24V DC to power (up to four) DWYER 2 wire, 4
to 20mA loop transmitters. CRM2-MA-40 provides the 249
ohm load resistor and biases the input op-amp to rescale the
1 to 5V DC signal to 0 to 5V DC.
The DCPS, powered by an Isolation transformer, is adjusted
for 24V DC to power one DWYER 3 wire, positive referenced,
4 to 20mA loop transmitter.
APPLICATION - 9 POWERING FKA-... SERIES SENSORS
APPLICATION - 10 POWERING 1KV
V RTD SENSORS
The DCPS, powered by an Isolation transformer, is adjusted
for 15V DC to power up to four of STAEFA’s FKA-... series
sensors. The output of these sensors typically is 0 to 10V DC
and must be divided down to 0 to 5V DC by using a voltage
divider as shown.
The DCPS is adjusted for 5V DC output to provide the
reference voltage for multiple (up to 24) 1KV RTD
temperature sensors. An 2.74kV pull up resistor is used for
each sensor, this external reference minimizes the load on the
Smart II power supply to avoid lockup. The CRM2 provides
the scaling for the desired temp range.

APPLICATION - 11 POWERING UI8CH AND DIM PANEL METER
Multiple sensors of the same family can be digitally indicated with a single panel meter by using a standard UI8CH selector
module. In this application a DIM (led) panel meter and a custom UI8CH module is used to display similar temperature ranges
using two different sensors. The UI8CH is powered by the DIM panel meter, and the three independent RTD sensors are powered
by a 5V DC DCPS power supply. This minimizes the load on the Smart II controller’s 5V DC supply, if overloaded the controller
shuts down.
APPLICATION - 12 POWER BOOST FOR STAEFA’S COMMUNICATION TRUNK ( FOR LONG TRUNK RUNS ).
When connecting 25 to 35 Smart 2 controllers to a NCRS
System panel on a single communication trunk, the trunk run
can approach the recommended distance limit and CRC’s
can occur. When this condition occurs, it has been
determined that by using a 5VDC supply and a current
limiting resistor the truck voltage can be pulled back to a 5
volt reference which reduces or eliminates CRC’s or TMO’s.
The DCPS and 511 ohm current limit resistor configuration
should be connected at or near the end of the trunk line. If
these problems are occurring on a trunk that is configured in
a ”T” formation we recommend using an AETI trunk repeater
at the “T” junction of the communication trunk. If you have
