Chapter 1
Overview
EMC ApplicationXtender Web Access .NET centralizes document access on a web server while
using the same imaging and database components as ApplicationXtender Document Manager.
To support a flexible deployment model, ApplicationXtender Web components are packaged in
separate setup files to allow you to selectively install components on different computers. A typical
ApplicationXtender Web Access .NET deployment usually consists of the following components:
• One computer with ApplicationXtender Administrator and Application Generator
• The content storage repository
• Additional servers required to support the ApplicationXtender system, such as the
ApplicationXtender database server, the ApplicationXtender Index Agent, the full-text database
server, and the License Server
• One ApplicationXtender Web Server computer
• One or more ApplicationXtender Rendering Server computers
• A connection through the Internet or an intranet to a number of clients using a web browser

Features and Updates
This chapter describes the major functionality changes included in this release.
Features and Updates in Service Pack 1
There are no new features or changes to features included in this release. This maintenance release
includes only product fixes.
Features and Updates in the Base Release
Syncplicity Integration
Syncplicity is an enterprise-grade file sharing and collaboration solution that provides an easy-to-use
cloud-based file management. It lets you sync, access, share, and automatically back up your files
online. Integrated with Syncplicity, ApplicationXtender Web .NET backs up ApplicationXtender
documents into cloud-based file sharing, or securely access them without other ApplicationXtender
products.
Make sure that Render Server is already installed so you can export documents from
ApplicationXtender Web .NET to Syncplicity.
With this version of ApplicationXtender Web .NET, you can export and import documents using
Syncplicity.
The following sections describe how to:
• Exporting ApplicationXtender Documents from ApplicationXtender Web .NET to Syncplicity,
page 10
• Importing Files from Syncplicity to ApplicationXtender Web .NET, page 11

Increasing Concurrent Conversion Capacity by
Installing Multiple ApplicationXtender Rendering
Servers
If you want to allow more conversions to occur simultaneously (to support more users simultaneously
requesting documents), install multiple ApplicationXtender Rendering Servers. But you can enable
garbage collection only on one ApplicationXtender Rendering Server.
To allow the ApplicationXtender Rendering Servers to operate at optimal capacity, calculate the
maximum number of concurrent connections: Multiply the number of ApplicationXtender Rendering
Servers in your data source group by 5. Enter the resulting number in ApplicationXtender Admin,
under Services > Rendering Server > Setup node, in the Max number of concurrent conversions
settings.

in ApplicationXtender Administrator for Oracle does not match the case of
the user name in the Oracle database.
WX-2572
Component Registration fails when you configure the MySQL data source.
Workaround: You can apply one of the following solutions:
• Install the 6.5.6 version of MySQL Connector/Net. You can download
MySQL Connector/Net 6.5.6 from ftp://ftp.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp
.mysql.com/Downloads/Connector-Net/
• Install the latest version of MySQL Connector/Net and add an assembly
binding direction section to the following configuration files:

Uploading a large PDF file in Batch Import causes an HTTP error.
Workaround: Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 and later add a security
enhancement named request filtering. The maxAllowedContentLength
attribute of request filtering specifies the maximum length of content in a
request, in bytes. The default value is 30,000,000, which is approximately
28.61 MB. To upload files larger than 28.61 MB, you must modify the value
of the maxAllowedContentLength attribute. For information about
how to modify the value of the maxAllowedContentLength attribute,
refer to http://www.iis.net/configreference/system.webserver/security
/requestfiltering/requestlimits.
WX-2442
The thin client does not display the text view of a PDF document that has
been full-text indexed.
WX-2440
When a currency field is set to the maximum length of 38 characters, the
system displays an error message instead of saving and displaying the field
correctly.
WX-2438
Document Manager processes a cross-application query on dates that do not
have slashes and dashes, but Web Access .NET does not. Web Access .NET
processes the query if the query is modified to include space holders.
WX-2436
When using NT security, Web Access .NET does not follow session timeout
settings. Even though Web Access .NET displays a timeout message, it allows
the user to query and do other operations to the application list again. This
issue does not occur if the system is configured for CM security; the user is
logged off the system.
WX-2434
Temporary files are not removed from the computer after the scanning process
fails. The temporary files remain on the computer in the following location:
C:\Documents and Settings\<userid/>\Local Settings\Temp.

Web Access .NET print setup options do not work in Internet Explorer 9, 10,
and 11.
Workaround: Create the following registry subkey value to disable the Hang
Resistance feature in Internet Explorer 9, 10, and 11:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main
Type: REG_DWORD
Name: HangRecovery
Value: 0
By default, the Hang Resistance feature is enabled in Internet Explorer 9, 10,
and 11. Setting the HangRecovery value to 0 disables this feature.
Log in to Web Access .NET again. The print setup options work correctly after
you disable the Hang Resistance feature.
WX-1333
User is not automatically logged out when the main browser window closes
in Safari.
WX-3
When a user attempts to email a document from the Web Access .NET result
set (and the document bin file is not present in the staging area), the email
fails with the following error:
Load page files: \\QACMGB193\SECURE\DOC\CENTERA
\0\0\648.bin was not found. Email job failed!
CacheEntryInfo::ConvertToImage Error: Save 25 Known
Problems and Limitations failed. (0xFFFFFFEE, -18)
This error occurs because the Centera Fetch operation does not retrieve the
bin file before sending the email.
Workaround: First open a document to trigger a Centera Fetch operation,
then repeat the steps to email the document.

Chapter 7
Technical Notes
This chapter provides configuration and usability notes for current product features.
Issue with Installing or Allowing Web Access
ActiveX Add-ons
When Automatically logout the user when the user closes the main browser window is enabled for
Web Access and you create a document in Internet Explorer 9 or 10, installing or allowing the Web
Access ActiveX add-ons logs out the current user.
To avoid this issue, add the Web Access website to the Trusted sites list and set the security settings
for trusted sites to Medium-low in Internet Explorer.
Increasing the Timeout Setting to Allow
Querying an Application with a Large Number
of Documents
Administrators can add a setting in the web.config file to allow specification of a connection timeout.
Increasing this setting allows large queries to complete without timing out. Simply add the following
as a separate line to the appSetting section of the web.config file:
<add key="CommandTimeout" value="xxx"/>
The xxx is the maximum number of seconds a command can take. For example: a setting of 900
would allow 15 minutes, while the default value is 180 seconds.

Importing/Viewing/Saving a Password
Protected PDF Prompts For a Password
Multiple Times
Whenever ApplicationXtender Web .NET thin-client or interactive client (IRC) loads and/or otherwise
manipulates a password-protected PDF into Acrobat Reader, you may see a request for a password.
Most password-protected PDFs do not need a password for display purposes, but that is a setting
that can be chosen by the author of the PDF, so it may occur with some files. This is a function of the
Adobe Reader software, and not the EMC ApplicationXtender Web .NET software. In these cases, the
password request may happen on opening, and also on indexing/saving actions. The author of the
PDF file has to be available to supply the password. Once opened via a password, it may be possible
to modify the password settings to avoid this issue on subsequent accesses.

Issues with Uninstalling Render Server From
the Control Panel
When uninstalling Render Server from the control panel, you may encounter the following issues:
• IRM is not successfully uninstalled.
• Render Server is not successfully uninstalled when UAC is enabled.
To avoid these issues, uninstall Render Server through the original setup.exe file.
Issue with Supporting Safari 5 in Windows
Operating System
ApplicationXtender Web .NET in NT security mode does not work when using Safari 5 running in
Windows. This is due to an incompatibility between Safari and IIS Windows Authentication, if
Negotiate is enabled.
Workaround: Remove Negotiate from Enabled Providers in IIS Windows Authentication.
