Safety precautions:
This device was manufactured according to the specifications of international
safety standards. For your own protection, you should read the safety instructions carefully before using your new device.
The manufacturer assumes no liability for damages caused by improper handling or by ignoring the safety precautions.
• This device is designed to receive and display video and audio signals. Any
other use is expressly prohibited.
• Operate the device only with the supplied AC adapter.
• When setting up the device, make sure the mains socket is easily accessible.
• If the device is subject to a sudden change in temperature, for example
when brought in from the cold to a warm room, let it stand for at least two
hours before you connect it to the mains supply.
• Do not expose the device to any moisture. The digital receiver is designed
for use in dry rooms. If you do use it outdoors, please ensure that it is protected from moisture, such as rain or splashing water.
• Place the device on a flat, solid surface for use.
• Make sure the device is adequately ventilated. Make sure that the left and
right, a free space of about 5 cm, 10 cm above is available to allow the air
to circulate freely and the device does not overheat. Never cover the vents
with newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc..
• Do not place anything on the device which could initiate fires (e.g. candles)
or contain liquids.
• Do not use the device close to heating units or in direct sunlight.

• The device should be operated at temperatures of 5 ºC to 40 ºC. Use the
device only in a moderate climate, not in tropical conditions.
• Avoid short circuits!
• Thunderstorms are a danger to all electrical devices. Even if the device is
switched off, it can be damaged by a stroke of lightning to the mains or the
antenna cable. Therefore always disconnect the device from the mains and
from the antenna unit during a thunderstorm or extended shutdowns (e.g.
holidays).
• Never open the device under any circumstances. No liability is accepted
for damage caused by faulty connections or inappropriate handling of the
device.

Electronic devices should never be disposed of in the household rubbish. In
accordance with directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and the

2.4 D e s c r i p t i o n
With the GSS.box DSI 400 free receivable satellite channel can be transmitted to client devices like smart phones, tablet PCs and notebooks/PCs via
a pre-existing wireless/home network. The GSS.box is equipped with four
satellite tuners. So, up to four user can watch their favourite channels via their
mobile devices. At unicast transmission up to 4 users can watch their favourite
channel on their client (factory default). At multicast transmission any number
of clients can receive channels from up to 4 transponders (we recommend a
maximum of 4 HD or 6 SD channels – dependant on its data rate).
The GSS.box must be connected to the mobile devices via the same WLAN/
LAN network.
Inexpensive Apps enable video recording resp. timeshift. EPG as well as teletext are available.

• Remove all protective films from the housing.
4.1 S at e l l i t e S i g n a l
Bas i cs
Satellites signals are horizontally or vertically polarised and are transmitted
within 2 frequency ranges (high and low band). So 4 different ranges must be
received:
– Horizontally polarised, high band 11.70–12.75 GHz ("horizontal high")
– Horizontally polarised, low band 10.70–11.70 GHz ("horizontal low")
– Vertical polarised, high band 11.70–12.75 GHz ("vertical high")
– Vertical polarised, low band 10.70–11.70 GHz ("vertical low")
Dependent on the selected station, this four ranges must be transferred to the
receivers (satellite tuners). This is done by so called multiswitches, which are
part of the receiving system - separately or integrated in the LNB (signal converter at the satellite antenna).
LNBs with integrated multiswitch are called Quad resp. Oct LNB (dependent
on the number of inputs).
LNBs without multiswitch are called Quattro LNB, which transfers the signals to
a separate multiswitch or directly to the DSI 400. For this connecting variant a
multiswitch is integrated in the DSI 400.
Only one client device can be connected to each output of a multiswitch (star
distribution). If several client devices are connected to one antenna cable a so
called "Unicable" receiving system must be used. Herein the reception signal
is converted in the multiswitch to a defined frequency for each client device.
4 satellite tuners – for 4 client devices – are integrated in the DSI 400.
Dependent on the satellite reception system 3 different connecting variants are
available.

with downstreamed Multiswitch, for each tuner a connection must be established.
• Connect 4 outputs of the LNB/multiswitch to the inputs

—> Tuner 1 will be assigned to the first client device (e.g. iPad, PC etc.),
which is logged in at the DSI 400, tuner 2 for the second client, and
so on. If you intend to use less than 4 client devices, you require
correspondingly less inputs (always starting from input 1).

Unicable
If the satellite reception system consists of an Unicable LNB or a Quattro LNB
with downstreamed Unicable multiswitch, only one connection must be established.
• Connect input 1 of the DSI 400 to the "unicable signal" via a suitable SAT
antenna cable.
—> The reception signals for the 4 tuners are converted to 4 fixed frequencies.
After that the antenna configuration (page 18) must be set to "unicable".
4.2 IT I n f r a s t r u c t u r e
In order to transmit the TV stations which are converted to IPTV signals to the
client devices, the DSI 400 must be integrated in your IT Infrastructure.
• Connect the LAN socket 7 of the DSI 400 to a LAN connector of your
network (e.g. the LAN socket of your router) via a LAN cable.
—> An DHCP server must be activated in your network (normally integrated in the router and active). The DHCP server must not be
deactivated, so that an IP address can be assigned to the DSI 400.
The DSI 400 must be within in the same network/subnet as the client
devices (same IP address range).
—> If all LAN sockets of the router are used, in addition you have to use
a so called "switch", in order to get free connectors.
For a smooth video playback we recommend for the LAN connection a
1000Mbit/s network, for the WLAN connection to the clients a 300Mbit/s
WLAN network.
A PC, intended for the video playback, must have corresponding computing
performance and graphic controller.

Unicast
At unicast transmission up to 4 clients are supplied with each one station.
When logging in, each client will be assigned to a tuner, whose signal is then
streamed only to this client (unicast). Therefore in menu "Antenna" –> section
"LNB Auto-setting" the check box "automatic frontend allocation" must be
activated (page 19).

—> The number of streams for a smooth playback is dependent on the
dynamic data rates that are transmitted by the broadcasters.
Proper operation of this option also depends heavily on the performance of the connected network and the clients (particularly for HD
streams).
M u lt i c a s t
At multicast transmission the IPTV streams are streamed via a multicast IP address to the network – without a particular target. Any number of clients can
receive these streams by selecting the IP address (and the related port). The
stations, which are streamed, are defined by a multicast list, which must be
uploaded to the DSI 400 (page 27).

Proper operation of this option also depends heavily on the performance of the connected network and the clients (particularly for HD

We recommend a maximum of 4 HD or 6 SD streams.

"automatic frontend allocation" must be deactivated (page 19).
The configuration of the multicast transmission is to be done via menu
"MenuRTSP" (page 25).

• Connect the power supply unit to a power point and then connect it to the
power supply socket 8.

Initial
operation
—> A DHCP server must be activated in your network (normally integrated in the router and active). The DHCP server must not be deactivated, so that an IP address can be assigned to the DSI 400.
• Switch on the DSI 400 by the power switch 9, which is located at the rear
side.
The DSI 400 logs in to the network and obtains an IP address from the
DHCP server (LAN operating indicator ! blinks).
Once the connection is established, the LAN operating indicator lights permanently.
The DSI 400 is ready for operation and must now even be configurated
(only at initial operation).

In chapter "Connecting the DSI 400" (page 9) the different reception variants
are described. Via the configuration menus you advice the DSI 400 to which
kind of satellite reception system it is connected. Furthermore you can
– switch on and off the build-in DLNA server,
– generate a favourite channel list,
– import a m3u channel list,
– perform RTSP settings or
– perform firmware updates as well as a system restart.

For the configuration you need a PC which must be within the same network
(same IP address range) as the DSI 400. You will reach the configuration
menus via the web interface of the DSI 400 by your browser.

Instead of the "xxxxxx" enter the last 6 digits of the DSI 400´s MAC address
(see the label at the bottom side; e.g. GSSBOX-F001A6.local) and press
the "Enter" button.
—> The login window appears (page 17).
—> Therefore your PC must support "mDNS". Apple´s "Bonjour" must
be installed. This is automatically done during the installation of
"iTunes" or "QuickTime". With the help of an internet searching
engine (e.g. Google) you will find the download for the bonjour
printing services.

• Enter the IP address, which was assigned to the DSI 400 from the DHCP
server, and, seperated by a ":", port 8080 (e.g. 192.168.10.51:8080).
Subsequently press "Enter".
—> This IP address was assigned from the net router and can be seen
in the configuration menu of the router (the DHCP protocol must be
activated in the router).
—> The login window appears (page 17).

• Click on button "Antenna".
• Dependent on the connecting variant select the corresponding setting for
the SAT inputs, "Quad" (Quad/Oct LNB or multi switch, factory setting),
"Quattro" (Quattro LNB) or "Unicable" and click on button "Save".
• If necessary enter different LNB oscillator frequencies in section "LO1/LO2
Frequency" and click on button "Save".
Unicable
If "Unicable" is selected, selection fields for four user bands and input fields
for the 4 "unicable" frequencies are displayed. Individual user bands can be
deactivated.
• Select the desired respectively deactivate the user bands which are not
needed.
—> If e.g. in your plant two user bands are already in use by other
receivers, you can deactivate this user bands and adjust the two
"free" user bands for the DSI 400.

Corresponding to the number of the deactivated user bands, the
same number of tuners are then deactivated.
• Enter the corresponding frequencies via which your unicable LNB/multiswitch then transmits the programmes to the tuners.
• Store the frequencies using button "Save".
LNB A u to - s e t t i n g
In section "LNB Auto-setting" you can switch off the "automatic frontend allocation".
Activated automatic frontend allocation:
With activated automatic frontend allocation a maximum of 4 Clients are supplied each with one station. Each of the clients will be assigned to a tuner. The
clients can individually change the stations, as they have separate tuners.
Deactivated automatic frontend allocation:
With deactivated automatic frontend allocation, during login is checked,
whether the needed transponder is already received. In this case, the client
will be connected to the corresponding tuner. More than 4 clients can be
logged in – but a maximum of 4 Transponders can be received.
If more than 4 clients are logged in, it is not possible to switch to stations,
which are transmitted via a 5th transponder.
—> Therefore also observe the following hints for antenna configuration.
• Deactivate/activate the automatic frontend allocation and store the modification using button "Save".

A u to m at i c
If you start operating a client device and establish a connection to the DSI 400
- automatic frontend allocation activated - , always the first client will be assigned to tuner/channel 1 (LED 1 @ lights), the second client to tuner/channel
2 (LED 2 @ light) etc.
If you disconnect a client, it may be up to 1 minute (see RTSP timeout setting
page 28) before the DSI 400 detects that the connection is stopped (the corresponding LED @ is turned off). Only after that a new connection can be
established to this tuner/channel.

Via DLNA channel lists (see DNLA configuration on
page 21) a tuner preassignment is possible. Parameter
["fe": -1] means "automatic tuner assignment". Changing the value from "-1" into 0…3, the corresponding
channel can be preassigned to tuners 1…4. This means,
a channel set to the "fe" value "3" will be assigned to
tuner 4, when selected via the DLNA list. Therefore the
DLNA list must be edited by a corresponding text editor.
If a channel, which was preassigned to a tuner, is selected by several clients via the DLNA list, only this one
tuner is needed.

Automatic frontend allocation + tuner preassignment
Example: The channel "Das Erste" is preassigned to tuner 4 ("fe" parameter =
"3") via the DLNA list. DLNA capable clients, which select the channel "Das
Erste", will receive "Das Erste" via tuner 4 - also several clients!
Other channels, which are not preassigned ("fe" parameter = "-1"), automatically will be assigned to the tuners 1…3.
—> Several clients can receive "Das Erste". In addition, it is possible to
receive three different channels via three additional clients.

If you would like to use client devices which can receive signals from a DLNA
server (DLNA clients) you have to activate the DLNA server.
—> The check box "Activate DLNA" must be checked if the DLNA server
shall work.
• Changes are stored by button "Save".

To receive channels via the DLNA clients, a channel list must be transmitted. By
default a list of German ASTRA 19.2° channels is provided.
If the transponder assignment of the satellite was changed, the channel list
must be updated.
• Download the current channel list ("DLNA Main TV list") from
"www.gss.de/en" to your PC.
In section "DLNA Main TV list" the channel list can be updated.

• Click on button "Browse" and select the downloaded file of the new channel list.
• Transmit the list to the DSI 400 using button "Send".
—> Using button "Download" the list can be displayed.

In section "Favorite list(s)" you can create a favourite list from the channel list.
Via corresponding buttons you can create ("New"), export ("Export", for
backup), if necessary re-import ("Import"), modify ("Edit") or delete ("Delete")
a favourite list.
• Click on button "New".
• Click on the new list and select "Edit".

• Select a channel from the main list and move it to your favourite list using
the mouse (e.g. Firefox) or click on button ">>>>>" (e.g. Internet Explorer).
• To remove a channel from the favourite list select it and move it to the trash

Using button "Sort [A…Z]" you can sort the main list in alphabetical order.
Button "Delete all" deletes all channels of the favourite list.
• Store the favourite list by button "Save".
Then the favourite list will be transferred to DLNA clients instead of the main
list.

Herein you can assign a fixed IP address and a NTP timeserver to the DSI 400.

For clients, which support m3u channel lists (e.g. VLC player), herein you can
upload a m3u channel list to the DSI 400.
—> m3u channel lists can be downloaded from www.gss.de/en.
• Download a m3u channel list from "www.gss.de/en" to your PC.
• Click on button "Browse" and select the downloaded file of the m3u channel list.
• Transmit the list to the DSI 400 using button "Send".
• Call up the m3u list at your m3u capable client by entering the following
path:

First a multicast playlist must be prepared and then uploaded to the DSI 400.
P r e pa r i n g a SAT>IP
The list can be prepared/modufied in any text editor and must be stored in
m3u format (.m3u). As maximum the stations of 4 transponders can be added
(4 tuners).
If a station is transmitted in several languages, you can add all audio PIDs, in
order to select the desired language by the client (e.g. PC with VLC player).
For radio stations only add the audio PID.

The IP addresses of the streams are assigned automatically and start always
from 239.1.0.x. The fourth digit is consecutively numbered. The order is defined by the parameters "tuner" and "PIDs" (first all stations of tuner 1 [fe=1]
in ascending PID order [pids=].

—> This example contains 3 multicast streams. The first stream is played
out via IP address 239.1.0.1 and contains the Station "ZDF". It is
received via tuner 1 [fe=1] with following parameters: DiSEqC position A [src=1], frequency 11954 MHz [freq=11954], symbol rate
22,5 Msys [sr=27500], DVB-S standard [msys=dvbs], horizontal
polarisation [pol=h] and the required PIDs - PAT PID, PMT PID, video
PID and audio PID - [pids=0,1,110,120,100].
—> Observe that all stations of the same transponder must be assigned
to the same tuner [fe=].
—> The number of streams for a smooth playback is dependent on the
dynamic data rates that are transmitted by the broadcasters.
Proper operation of this option also depends heavily on the performance of the connected network and the clients (particularly for HD
streams).
We recommend a maximum of 4 HD or 6 SD streams.

The automatic frontend allocation (part of the antenna settings page 20) must be
deactivated before starting the multicast streaming.

Uploud the multicast list to the DSI 400 (RTSP Play list Update Settings)
• Click on button "Browse" to select your multicast playlist (.m3u formatted).
• Uploud the list to the device using button "Send".
"Multicast playlist loaded" is displayed if the uploud was successful.
• Restart the DSI 400 (menu System –> Restart).
After the restart you can check the current multicast playlist:
• Copy the "Playlist file location" path (e.g. http://GSSBOX-F001A6:8080/
mcastpllst) from section "Local multicast playlist update", insert it to the address line of a browser and call it up.
The RTP addresses of the multicast streams together with its associated ports
are listed.
RTSP Multicast Settings
This checkbox must be activated in order to use the multicast feature.
• Activate/deactivate the checkbox if necessary.
—> The button "Save" is activated.
• Click on button "Save" to save the changes.
RTSP IGMP play option
When using an IGMP compliant switch, it takes the distribution of the data
streams. In this case activate this checkbox, so that the DSI 400 permanently
streams. Otherwise deactivate this checkbox, so that the DSI 400 streams only
on request.

RTSP Session Timeout Settings
This setting takes only effects at unicast streaming (automatic frontend allocation). The value defines the time in seconds, after which an unicast transmission is finished if the client doesn't respond.
• Adjust the value if necessary.

Via menu "System" you can perform a firmware update, change the configuration password as well as perform a system reboot.

Firmware

—> Therefore no PC is needed!
• Switch off the DSI 400.
• Unzip the .zip file containing the new firmware and copy both files (idl4k.
bin and idl4k.scr) to an USB stick (Root directory).
—> The stick must be formatted in the "FAT32" file system.
• Insert the USB stick into the upper USB socket of the DSI 400.
• Switch on the DSI 400.
—> The firmware will be updated automatically.
You will see a "running light" on the LEDs @. At the end of the
update all LEDs will switch on and then off. Then the box will start
normally.

• Export an existing favourite list. The favourite list will be deleted during factory reset.
• Press the reset button 5 on the rear panel while you power up the DSI 400
and keep it pressed for 10 seconds 9.
—> After that the DSI 400 must be configured again and if necessary a
new favourite list must be set/imported.
Updates of the main TV list (Hauptliste TV) must be loaded again.

If you start operating a client device and establish a connection to the DSI 400,
always the first client will be assigned to tuner/channel 1 (LED 1 @ lights), the
second client to tuner/channel 2 (LED 2 @ light) etc.
Therefore also observe the "Hints for antenna configuration" on page 20.

Via the iTunes Store (for iPhone/iPad) or the Google Play Store (for Android)
the "Elgato Sat>IP" App can be purchased.
This App was especially designed for the operation at SAT-to-IP routers and
work like a traditional satellite receiver. Features like channel search, EPG or
PVR (inclusively time shift) are available.
• Install the "Elgato Sat>IP"
• Start the App.
App on your Smartphone/Tablet
—> The App automatically recognizes the DSI 400 and establishes a
connection.
Herein you can receive all unscrambled SD programmes which are present at
the Sat inputs after a programme search is done.
—> Herein tuner preassignment is not possible, as there is no access to
the DLNA list

As DLNA is an open standard, hardware as well as several software (Apps)
for PCs, Smart phones and Tablet PCs, which supports DLNA are available.
If the DLNA server of the DSI 400 is activated, you can receive the channels
of the "main TV list" resp. the favourite list using client devices which support
DLNA.
With all clients you have to search for "Media Servers" in the network.
—> Herein for example the "GSSBOX-F001A6:SAT>IP" should be found.

Client devices/software, which contain a DLNA/UPnP client (e.g. VLC Player,
ACE Player for iOS), also can access the channel list ("Main TV list") resp. the
favourite list.
—> In circumstances the VLC player may have problems to display very
long channel lists. In this case please use a shortened favourite list.

9.5 RTSP (R e a l-T i m e S t r e a m i n g P r oto c o l )
If you have comprehensive knowledge of satellite and EDV technology, you
also can perform the channel setting via RTSP.
Client devices/software which can communicate via the Real Time Streaming
Protocol (e.g. VLC player), are able to control the Sat tuner via RTSP commands.
—> Example using the VLC player:
• Select "Media" -> "Open Network Stream".
• Enter the network address (URL) according to the following exam  ple (values in square brackets are place holders):

In this example the DSI 400 has the IP address 192.168.10.51
and it tunes to DiSEqC Position A (src=1), frequency 10744MHz
(freq=10744), symbol rate 22Msys (sr=22000), DVB-S modulation
(msys=dvbs), polarization horizontal (pol=h) and the necessary PIDs PAT-PID, PMT-PID, Video-PID and Audio-PID - (pids=0,400,401,402).
As there is no frontend selected (fe=[Tuner]), this will be handled
automatically.
—> You will find the values necessary for satellite reception in the internet (e.g. at www.kingofsat.net).

—> Each URL is entered into a playlist. There you can change the "titel"
and after that store/export the list. So you can call up every channel
