ABOUT YOUR SOLAR-POWERED
COLOR-CHANGING GLOBE
BEFORE FIRST USE OF YOUR
COLOR-CHANGING GLOBE (CONTINUED)
This Color-Changing Globe changes through all the colors of the rainbow in
the AUTO color-changing mode and also has a MANUAL color-changing mode
which allows you to choose from a range of selectable colors.
2. Since the Color-Changing Globe only illuminates when it is dark outside,
take the Color-Changing Globe into a dark area (or wait until night) so that
you can see the color-changing effect.
During the day, the solar panel converts sunlight into electricity and recharges
its batteries. At night, the photosensor automatically turns on the light using the
electricity created and stored during the day.
3. Press the ON/OFF switch to the ON position.
The number of hours the Color-Changing Globe illuminates depends on your
geographical location, weather conditions, and temperature. Typically, if the
Color-Changing Globe is charged in full sunlight for 6–8 hours, the light should
illuminate for up to 8 hours at night.
The Color-Changing Globe may function irregularly or not at all at temperatures
near or below freezing (32° F/0° C). Normal operation will return when the
temperature rises.
This Color-Changing Globe comes with pre-installed rechargeable AAA 1.2V
batteries that need to be replaced when the charging ability decreases. The
batteries should typically be replaced every two years.
The Color-Changing Globe LED’s have an estimated life of 30,000 hours and
should never need changing.
Keep the top of the light free of dirt or anything that may block or restrict light
to the solar cell. For best results, periodically wipe your Color-Changing Globe
with a damp cloth to remove any dirt.
CHOOSING A LOCATION
4. Set the color-changing Mode switch to either the AUTO or MANUAL
position. See the “USING THE AUTO OR MANUAL COLOR-CHANGING
MODES” section on the back of this page for a description of the AUTO and
MANUAL modes.
5. This Color-Changing Globe will automatically charge during daylight
hours and illuminate at dusk.
Note: If your Color-Changing Globe does not turn on after 8-12 daylight
hours of charging:
• Make sure the ON/OFF switch is pressed to the ON position.
• Make sure the Color-Changing Globe has been charged in a direct
sunlight location and not in a shaded area.
• Note: The Color-Changing Globe only illuminates when it is dark
outside. To test the Color-Changing Globe, take it into a dark room or
test the Color-Changing Globe at night.
• If the Color-Changing Globe is lighting up but not changing color, make
sure the color-changing mode switch is set to AUTO.
• Make sure the batteries have been inserted matching the correct + / polarity orientation and are making secure contact with the terminals.
(See “TO REPLACE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES” section.)
Choose an outdoor location which receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight
each day. Placing the Color-Changing Globe in a shaded location will not allow
the batteries to charge fully and will reduce the hours of night time illumination.
The selected location should not be near night time light sources such as street
or porch lighting as these may cause the Color-Changing Globe to turn off
automatically.
ASSEMBLING YOUR
COLOR-CHANGING GLOBE
Parts List:
To prolong the life of your Color-Changing Globe and reduce the risk of
corrosion, install the light away from salty, corrosive or highly fertilized areas.
Chlorine and other water treatments in pools and spas will also reduce the life
of the Color-Changing Globe.
BEFORE FIRST USE OF YOUR
COLOR-CHANGING GLOBE
1. The Color-Changing Globe
comes with pre-installed
rechargeable AAA batteries
which may need to be charged
before first use. Before first use,
place the Color-Changing
Globe in direct sunlight for 2-3
days to fully charge the
batteries. Charging batteries in
part sun or on cloudy days will
cause your Color-Changing
Globe to lilluminate for only a
few hours.
Base Stand (A)
Color-Changing
Globe
Anchor Plug (C)
Ground Stake (B)
The Color-Changing Globe can be mounted in 3 ways:
1. The Color-Changing Globe can be placed on a table or other flat surface by
using the included black Base Stand (A). This method works best by also using
the Anchor Plug (C) underneath the stand after the Color-Changing Globe is
on the stand.
ASSEMBLING YOUR COLOR-CHANGING
GLOBE (CONTINUED)
2. The included Ground Stake (B) can be used to mount the Color-Changing
Globe on dirt, grass, or any other soft surface. This method works best by
also using the Base Stand (A) between the Color-Changing Globe and the
Ground Stake.
3. The Color-Changing Globe can be placed directly in a pond or other pool
of water. If you don’t want the Color-Changing Globe to float freely in the
water, you can tie a string to the included Anchor Plug (C) and then tie the
other end of the string to a stable object.
*Note: If the ground is hard and packed, moisten the ground with water
before inserting the ground stake to avoid breakage. Use a rubber mallet
(not included) if necessary, to gently tap the ground stake. Do NOT hit the
Color-Changing Globe.
USING THE AUTO OR MANUAL
COLOR-CHANGING MODES
In AUTO color-changing mode, the Color-Changing Globe automatically
changes through all the colors of the rainbow. In MANUAL color-changing
mode, you can select one of many colors to display continuously. To best see
the colors, take the Color-Changing Globe into a dark area.
1. Set the Mode switch to the
MANUAL position.
2. Press the Select Color Button to
change to the next color in the
color cycle.
3. If you want to return to the
color-changing mode, press the
color-changing Mode switch
back to the AUTO position.
TO REPLACE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
1. Remove the ColorChanging Globe from the
mounting location.
2. Turn the Color-Changing
Globe upside down and
unscrew the Outer Ring by
rotating the ring counterclockwise.
3. Remove the inner
B a t t e r y
Compartment Cover.
4. Remove the old
batteries and replace
with new AAA 1.2V
rechargeable
batteries. Make sure
the batteries are
inserted matching
the correct +/polarity orientation.
TO REPLACE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
5. Replace the inner Battery Compartment Cover by pressing it firmly over the
battery compartment.
6. Screw the Outer Ring back on tightly (rotating clockwise) to ensure a
watertight seal. The Outer Ring must be completely flush with the ColorChanging Globe body or water will enter the battery compartment and
damage the Color-Changing Globe. If the Outer Ring does not seat evenly,
unscrew the Outer Ring
and try screwing the
Outer Ring on again using
a starting position that is
120 degrees from the
previous starting position.
7. Repeat steps in the
“BEFORE FIRST USE OF
YOUR COLOR-CHANGING
GLOBE” section to ensure
the new batteries are fully
charged.
Note: Dispose of old batteries properly. Do not dispose by general household refuse or into a fire. You may also return the original used batteries
from this product to MAXSA Innovations for recycling.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The Color-Changing Globe does not turn on:
1. The Color-Changing Globe only illuminates when it is dark outside (at
night). To test the Color-Changing Globe, take it into a dark room or test
the Color-Changing Globe at night.
2. Press the ON/OFF switch to the ON position. See the "BEFORE FIRST USE
OF YOUR COLOR-CHANGING GLOBE" section.
3. The battery charge is low. Move the Color-Changing Globe to a location
in direct sunlight and allow the Color-Changing Globe to charge for 812 daylight hours. Clean the Color-Changing Globe with a damp cloth to
give the hidden solar panel maximum sunlight.
4. Cold weather (near or below freezing 32° F/0° C) is naturally preventing
the batteries from working properly. Normal operation will return when
the temperature rises.
The color stays on a single color (such as red):
1. The color-changing mode is set to MANUAL. See the "USING THE AUTO
OR MANUAL COLOR-CHANGING MODES" section to switch between the
MANUAL and AUTO color-changing modes.
2. The battery charge is low. Move the Color-Changing Globe to a location
in direct sunlight and allow the Color-Changing Globe to charge for 812 daylight hours. Clean the Color-Changing Globe with a damp cloth to
give the hidden solar panel maximum sunlight.
3. Cold weather (near or below freezing 32° F/0° C) is naturally preventing
the batteries from working properly. Normal operation will return when
the temperature rises.
