IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS When using any electrically powered product, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following: PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE PRODUCT. WARNING - to reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock or injury to persons or property: • Always operate the product from a power source of the same voltage, frequency and rating as indicated on the product identification plate. • This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. • Keep out of reach of children. • Do not operate any product with a damaged cord or plug, or after the product malfunctions, or is dropped or appears damaged in any way. Return the complete product to the place of purchase for inspection, repair or replacement. • To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not immerse or expose any of this appliance to any liquid/water. • Switch off and unplug from outlet before filling, emptying, or when not in use, and before cleaning. • Always keep kettle level when switched on. • Do not overfill. If the kettle is overfilled beyond the Maximum fill mark, there is a risk that boiling water may be ejected from the spout. • CAUTION: Only operate the kettle on a flat surface. Do not operate the kettle unless the element is fully immersed. Do not move the kettle while it is switched on. • Do not boil unless the lid is firmly closed. • Never leave a product unattended when in use. • Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of work surface, table or touch any hot surface. • Do not operate or place any part of this product on or near any hot surface (such as a gas or electric burner or hotplate or in a heated oven). • Avoid touching hot surfaces, use handles and knobs. •Use only with the power lead provided with this kettle. •This product is intended for normal domestic/household use only. •The appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system. READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO USE YOUR AUTOMATIC KETTLE. •With the power switch in the “OFF” position and the kettle removed from power cord, fill the kettle to the desired level. Do not fill above the MAX mark. The first time the kettle is used, or it has been unused for a long period of time, it is recommended that the kettle be rinsed, filled to maximum and boiled. The water should then be discarded, the kettle rinsed and refilled with cold water. • Do not use the kettle below the Minimum mark. • Before operating the kettle ensure that the kettle is filled to the Minimum mark. •Ensure the kettle is in the “OFF” position (switch up) before connecting to the power supply. •To start the kettle heating, push the switch to the “ON” position (switch down). The power indicator light will glow. •When the water has boiled the kettle will switch “OFF”. If required, the water may be brought back to the boil by pressing the switch to “ON”. •The kettle may be switched “OFF” at any time by pressing the switch on the handle to the “OFF” position. •IMPORTANT: Make a habit of switching the power “OFF” at the power outlet before removing or replacing the kettle on the base or when the kettle is not attended. •Do not use hot tap water to fill the kettle. Use only cold water. Allow the cold water to run for three to four seconds before filling the kettle. •If any plastic taste from the kettle is found it can be removed by filling the kettle to maximum and adding a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to the water. Boil and discard the water, rinse out with cold water. AUTOMATIC SAFETY CUT-OUT An automatic cutout is fitted for protection against boil-dry overheating. It will operate if the kettle is switched on when containing insufficient water. If this should occur, switch off and remove the power cord from the power outlet. Allow the kettle to cool for 10 minutes then refill with cold water and connect to power supply. CARE OF YOUR PRODUCT •Avoid the use of solvents, polish, abrasive or aerosol cleaners as they may damage surfaces of the product. The inside of the kettle may be cleaned using a mild detergent; however it must be thoroughly rinsed before re-use. Clean the exterior of the kettle by wiping with a slightly dampened soft cloth. Make sure the kettle is thoroughly dried before reconnecting to the power supply. NOTE: Do not immerse the base or kettle in water or any other liquid. •Furring up is a common problem in hard water areas, and it is recommended to descale the kettle regularly. To descale, purchase a descale product for kettles, follow the given instructions for the descaler. SERVICE •Do not operate the kettle with a damaged cord or plug, or after the kettle malfunctions, or appears damaged in any manner. Return the complete kettle to the place of purchase or address noted in warranty information for inspection. CAUTION: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not dis-assemble the product.
