SERVICE BULLETIN
Product:
Refrigerators
Bulletin Number:
ASC20140429001
Bulletin Date:
4/29/2014
Models: All Samsung Refrigerators
Subject: Samsung UV Service Dryers are now available.
Symptom: Refrigerant leaks are sometimes hard to locate using standard methods (bubble
solution, electronic detector, etc.).
Solution:
•
A special service dryer is now available to help you determine the exact location of a
sealed system leak.
•
The new dryer contains a tracer wafer that is impregnated with fluorescent leak detection
dye. The dryer is identified as a UV dryer by the label printed on it.

•
When the dryer is installed in a sealed system, the wafer releases the dye as the refrigerant
and oil flow through the system.
•
When the dye reaches the leak, it becomes easily visible under an ultraviolet light (not
provided). In some cases, goggles are also needed to see the dye.

•
Most leaks can be seen within 10-20 minutes. However, a small low side leak may take 24
hours to become visible. In these cases, a return visit will be necessary to locate the leak.
•
There are two dryers available, one for use with a standard sealed system and one to use
on systems that have a step valve (TDM).
•
Be sure to use the correct dryer for the system being serviced.
