SCOPE
This document provides installation and application data for P/N 01-11-0003 and P/N 01-11-0004,
LED STRIP LIGHT. Aircraft installations are to be done in accordance with FAA Acceptable
Methods, Techniques, and Practices.
2.0
GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATIONS
LED Strip Lights are intended to provide aircraft cabin, galley and accent lighting. The LED Strip Light
is non-required electrical equipment and AC25-10 applies. Aircraft power to the system is controlled
by dedicated resettable circuit breakers. The LED Strip Lights consists of the following:
LED Strip Light: (01-11-0003)
The LED Strip Light (01-11-0003) consists of a polycarbonate Housing, a LED circuit board, a
three (3) pin male connector and a three (3) pin female connector.
LED Strip Light: (01-11-0004)
The LED Strip Light (01-11-0003) consists of a polycarbonate Housing, a LED circuit board with
power supply, a six (6) pin male connector and a three (3) pin female connector.

PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS

P/N 01-11-0004 is designed to operate from an input voltage of 28VDC.
P/N 01-11-0003 is designed to operate from an input voltage of 28VDC supplied from P/N 01-11-0004.
Lamp life is rated at 100,000 hours.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
4.1
General Layout
The installation should be accomplished per acceptable methods, techniques and practices, found in
FAA Advisory Circular AC43.13-1B.
4.2
Mounting
Any mounting surface in the aircraft can be chosen for the LED Strip Light. All surfaces must be
shown by analysis, to have sufficient strength (with the hardware specified) to withstand the flight,
ground and emergency landing conditions of the applicable regulations without failure.
The Mounting Clips (P/N 02-11-0003) are to be secured to a structural member with one each #6
100° countersink screw, 60 ksi ultimate tensile strength or equivalent strength hardware.
4.3
Electrical Connections
There are multiple electrical connections to be made to the LED Strip Light. Refer to chart below for
wiring connections. The chart has recommended wire type and wire sizes. The system must tie into
aircraft’s 28 VDC buss. Any aircraft buss or circuit breaker, which is being tied into, should have a
load analysis done to insure that the total load is not exceeding 80% of the rated load.
In addition, the LED Strip Light should not be tied into any buss that is reserved for critical flight
functions. If the new LED Strip Light is replacing an existing system, and the old system used more
power off the same bus that the new system is being tied into, then a load analysis is not necessary.
The LED Light Strip P/N 01-11-0004 can power up to 13.3 feet of light.

OPERATION AND CONTROL
Power may be supplied to the LED Strip Light through the installation and use of a single pole switch
that controls the ON/OFF function of the LED Strip Light. The ON/OFF function switch that is required
is: 0.5 A single pole switch tied to pin 1 and connected to ground.
Dimming is accomplished through the installation and use of two 0.5 amp - single pole/momentary
switches. One switch is for control of the BRIGHT function and one switch is for control of the DIM
function.
An output voltage of 1.2 VDC (bright) to .012 VDC (dim) is provided for DIM level reference on pin 6.

MAINTENANCE AND CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS
The Avtec LED Strip Light is a ‘non required – non essential’ item and therefore has no effect on the
airworthiness of an aircraft. With this in mind, the practice of ‘ON CONDITION/CONDITION
MONITORING’ applies. The concept of ‘on condition/condition monitoring’ as it applies to the Avtec
LED Strip Light requires that NO system components are removed for servicing, as long as the
systems output light and dimming functions correctly. The Avtec LED Strip Light is designed to
provide many years of safe, continuous and worry free operation. There are no component overhaul
or replacement HARD TIME limitations imposed upon any of the LED Strip Light components at this
time.
7.0
TROUBLESHOOTING TECHNIQUES
Follow these general techniques to isolate any problems:
•
Verify power to the unit, check that +28 VDC is applied to the proper
Wire(s) on the unit. Use a voltmeter to verify correct level.
•
Recheck all connections to the unit for security. Check all harness’s
for possible breaks. Recheck all wires for correct connections.
If the above techniques do not resolve your problems, contact an Avtec Technical Representative
for assistance.
