Use this information along with the Discrepancy Report and the Basic Course Syllabus
Engine
Universal M8 2 cylinder diesel located under companionway steps.
Release latches, lift steps up and out to remove.
Controls
Located on Wheel Pedestal
Throttle
Starboard side of pedestal, red lever: Up for idle, 50% to start.
Shift
Port side of pedestal, black lever: UP for forward, MIDDLE for neutral,
Down for reverse.
Engine Control
Panel
Engine Control Panel: Located on port side, aft of cockpit combing. Panel contains
ignition switch, engine stop lever, glow plug button, tachometer, temp gauge, amp
meter and fuel gauge. A buzzer sounds for low oil pressure.
Dipstick
On the Starboard side of engine, low, under air intake.
NOTE: After checking oil level be sure that the dipstick is fully seated in its tube!
Engine Hour Meter
Located on port side aft of cockpit combing, below engine control panel.
Engine Starting
Disconnect shore power.
1. Turn Battery Switch to “2” - “Start”
2. Place Shift lever in NEUTRAL
3. Advance Throttle to 25%
4. Make sure “Engine Stop” “T” handle is in as far as it will go.
5. Turn ignition key clockwise to “Run” position.
6. Press and hold “Glow” button for 15 to 30 seconds
7. Turn ignition key clockwise to “Start” and “crank” engine until it starts. Release
ignition key and allow it to move to “Run” position.
8. NOTE: Do Not Crank Engine More Than 30 Seconds. If no start, repeat steps
4 thru 6 and try again. If still no start, call operations staff for help.
WARNING: DO NOT TURN IGNITION KEY OFF WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING!!!
9. Advance throttle to about 1000 rpm and allow 3 to 5 minutes for engine
“warm up”.
Engine Stop
1. Place throttle lever to “Idle” SLOW
2. Place shift lever in NEUTRAL.
3. Pull out “Engine Stop” “T” handle out until engine stops. Push “T” back in.

Electrical
There are 2 electrical systems on board: 120v AC and 12v DC.
• Powered by a shore power cord the is plugged into a 120v/30amp breaker box at
the bottom of the Dock Box located at the head of the slip and is activated by a
30 amp breaker toggle.

is Shore Power
• With the shore power cord plugged into the box, insert the other end into vessel’s
shore power receptacle located on the face of the starboard aft cockpit bench
seat.
• Toggle “On” the “Shore Power” breaker panel located on the starboard aft
bulkhead of the main cabin labeled “Shore Power”.
Batteries
Both batteries are located in the bottom of the Nav Station cabinet. Open bottom
panel door to view batteries.
Battery Switch
Switch is mounted on the forward side of the Nav Station cabinet. It has 4
positions: “OFF”, “1” (House), “ALL” and “2” (Start).
Never Turn Any Battery Switch Off While Engine Is Running!
The Battery Charger is mounted in the cabinet aft of the Nav Station.
It is activated by:
1. Assure that the 120v AC system is activated (SEE: 120v AC Shore Power)

2. Toggle “On” the “Battery Charger” switch located on the starboard aft bulkhead,
next to the “Shore Power” breaker.
3. Observe the lights on the face of the charger:
• Green light that fades in & out indicated that charger is “trickle” charging fully
charged batteries.
• Red light on indicates charger is charging “Low” charged batteries.
• The 12v DC control panel is located on the starboard aft bulkhead of main cabin,
above the V berth and is labeled “12v DC Control”.
12v DC
• There are 2 master control switches on the panel.
• Top section for all lights.
• Bottom section for instruments and electronic.
Sails
Jib
Full Jib on a roller furling rig.
Main
Winch to raise sail and halyard on the mast.
Tankage
• Fill Fitting: in the bottom of the bow anchor locker starboard side (aft).
Water Tank
• Tank location: under the V berth.
• Tank holds: 15 gallons.
• Tank location: under the quarter berth.
Fuel Tank
• Tank holds: 25 gallons.
• Fill fitting: Aft Starboard outside of the cockpit. Using deck key (Boat Bag), slowly
open fill cap and hold on to cap while removing it. This assures that cap will not
be dropped overboard.
Do Not Leave Fuel Filler Nozzle Unattended When Fueling!

Tankage Continued
Holding Tank
• Location: Inside head sink cabinet with access to top of tank through panel door
on side of cabinet labeled: Holding Tank”.
• Capacity: 15 gallons
1. Locate the 2 thru hull valves under panel behind head labeled “Head & Holding
Tank Thru Hull Valves”.
2. The outboard valve is labeled “Head Overboard” should be “Closed” by turning
valve handle clockwise.
Pump Out Tank
3. The inboard valve labeled “Tank Overboard” should be “Open” by turning valve
handle counter-clockwise.
4. Inside the port lazarette on forward end are 2 “Y” “Flow” valves with arrows
indicating flow direction. Hose labeled “Head Discharge” to “Y” valve should
show flow direction “To Holding Tank”.
1. No valves need to be adjusted.
Using Pump Out
Station
2. The tank pump out cap is located on the shallow shelf on forward end inside
port lazarette.
3. Remove cap labeled “Holding Tank Pump Out” with deck key (Boat Bag).
4. Insert pump nozzle and follow pump instructions until “viewing pipe” is clear
indicating tank is empty.
5. Remove nozzle SLOWLY and replace cap snuggly but NOT FIRMLY.
Pumping Holding
Tank at Sea
The hand pump mounted on forward end of lazarette is operated by inserting the
bilge pump handle (In Boat Bag) in pump and pumped until tank is empty (pump
effort gets easier).
General Notes
• Bilge Pump (manual): is located in the cockpit under the control panel. There is a ‘Y’
valve in the lazarette that switches the pump from the bilge to the icebox.
• Automatic Bilge Pump: “Auto “ mode is hardwired to batteries and turns itself on by an
internal float inside the pump.
• Icebox: Ice Box is drained by changing “Y” valve in port lazarette FLOW from “Bilge” to
“Ice Box Drain” and pump manual bilge pump below engine control panel.
• Stove: None
• Galley Sink: Sink faucet is operated by foot pump located below sink cabinet. Sink drain
thru-hull is in bottom of sink cabinet, labeled “Sink Drain
• Head Sink: Sink faucet is operated by moving the pump lever next to the faucet. Sink
drains through the same thru-hull as galley sink.
• Engine Raw Water Intake: Raw water intake thru-hull valve is located in the engine
compartment on the port aft end of engine next to the prop shaft and labeled “Raw Water
Intake”.
