October 2008 Dear LIFEPAK® defibrillator/monitor & AED Customers: Starting on March 11, 2007 the United States began a new schedule for Daylight Saving Time (DST), as directed by the Energy Policy Act of 2005. With this change, DST will last one month longer than previous years. The new DST schedule lasts from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. The exact time change remains at 2:00am. How Does this Affect LIFEPAK Defibrillators? The US Department of Energy is required to study the impacts of this change and report back to Congress, which reserves the right to change things back. Because this change may only be temporary, we will not be updating our devices at this time. If the change does become permanent, we will take appropriate action. LIFEPAK 12 defibrillator/monitors & LIFEPAK 20 defibrillator/monitors include a time synchronization feature to update the DST schedule for the current time zone setting when connected to LIFENET® System software. LIFEPAK 500 & 500 DPS AEDs, LIFEPAK 1000 AEDs, and LIFEPAK CR® Plus and LIFEPAK EXPRESS® AEDs store only the local time and do not automatically update DST changes. However, the local time of the devices may be updated upon connection to LIFENET System software such as CODE-STAT™ Data Review Software and DT EXPRESS Data Transfer Software. Time on the LIFEPAK devices will adjust according to the time specified on the personal computer (PC). Time synchronization occurs when post-event data is downloaded to the data management application running on the PC. This feature must be enabled for time synchronization to occur and the PC clock must be adjusted prior to using the time synchronization feature. For more information on preparing your PC clock for the new Daylight Savings Time schedule, please refer to the specific data management software instructions below. Device Specific Information: LIFEPAK 12 & LIFEPAK 20 defibrillator/monitors: Devices connected to LIFENET System Software: The defibrillator/monitor clock will adjust to DST changes when the time synchronization feature is enabled on the LIFENET System software and the Microsoft Windows operating system is updated with the latest DST updates. Configure your LIFEPAK 12 defibrillator/monitor or LIFEPAK 20 defibrillator/monitor as follows: • The device clock can be adjusted by pressing “ON”, while holding down “OPTIONS” and “EVENT” to enter the “SETUP MENU” (users should continue to hold down these controls until the passcode screen appears). • Enter passcode; “SETUP MENU” should appear • Select “CLOCK” from the menu, then select “DATE/TIME” to enter the appropriate time • Select “DST” and select “ON” • Select “TIME Zone” and select the appropriate time zone NOTE: If DST is turned off or the time zone is changed, the LIFEPAK device will revert to the default DST rules. Devices not connected to LIFENET System Software: The LIFEPAK 20 defibrillator/monitor and LIFEPAK 12 defibrillator/monitor device clocks will not adjust to this new DST change, so users will need to manually reset the device clock and then turn off the Daylight Savings feature. • The device clock can be adjusted by pressing “ON”, while holding down “OPTIONS” and “EVENT” to enter the “SETUP MENU” (users should continue to hold down these controls until the passcode screen appears). • Enter passcode; “SETUP MENU” should appear • Select “CLOCK” from the menu, then select “DATE/TIME” to enter the appropriate time • Select “DST” and select “OFF” • Select “Time Zone” and select “None” LIFEPAK 500 & LIFEPAK 500 DPS AEDs: Devices connected to LIFENET System Software: If the time synchronization feature is enabled on the LIFENET System software and the Microsoft Windows operating system is updated with the latest DST updates, the device clock will automatically adjust the device time the next time the device communicates with the LIFENET software. Please refer to the Data Management section below for more information. Devices not connected to LIFENET System Software: The device clock will not adjust to this new DST change, so users will need to manually reset the device clock. • To change the date and time: Turn on the AED. (Be sure the AED has been off for at least 60 seconds and that nothing is connected to the AED.) • Press and hold the ▲ or ► button for approximately three seconds until the AED displays the date and time setting. A value blinking on and off indicates that the value can be changed. The day, month, year, hour, and minutes values can be increased. The seconds value can be reset to zero. • To set the hour and minute, press the ▲ button to increase the value and the ► button to advance to the next field. • To reset the seconds value to zero, press the ▲ button once. • After the time is set, press “ON/OFF” to turn off the AED. LIFEPAK 1000 AED: Devices connected to LIFENET System Software: If the time synchronization feature is enabled on the LIFENET System software and the Microsoft Windows operating system is updated with the latest DST updates, the device clock will automatically adjust the device time the next time the device communicates with the LIFENET software. Please refer to the Data Management section below for more information. Devices not connected to LIFENET System Software: The device clock will not adjust to this new DST change, so users will need to manually reset the device clock. • • • • The device clock can be adjusted by entering the setup mode. Press and hold the two softkeys located directly under the screen, then press the ON/OFF button. Use the softkeys to navigate and make selections on the Setup screen. Select “General” and press “SELECT.” Select “DATE/TIME” by pressing “NEXT” to advance through the menu options. To enter the appropriate time, use the softkeys and follow the instructions on the screen. • To exit setup mode, turn the defibrillator off. The changes are saved and will appear the next time you turn the defibrillator on. LIFEPAK CR Plus and LIFEPAK EXPRESS AEDs: Devices connected to LIFENET System software: If the time synchronization feature is enabled on the LIFENET System software and the Microsoft Windows operating system is updated with the latest DST updates, the device clock will automatically adjust the device time the next time the device communicates with the LIFENET software. Please refer to the Data Management section below for more information. Devices not connected to LIFENET System software: The device clocks will not adjust for this new DST change. Users cannot manually reset the device clock. However, each time you use the defibrillator, it digitally saves data, including date and time, that can be transferred to a PC. If you choose to download the data and transfer to a data management system, such as CODE-STAT™ Data Review Software and DT EXPRESS™ Data Transfer Software, the time will adjust according to the time specified on the PC. Please follow the instructions under Data Management to set your PC clock for the new DST change. DATA MANAGEMENT PRODUCTS: For LIFENET RS Receiving Station Customers, the new Daylight Savings Time schedule will also affect your Dell PC clock. Please contact Technical Support to obtain information on which Microsoft OS patch for Daylight Savings Time changes applies to your LIFENET RS system. For CODE-STAT software Customers, the time synchronization feature must be enabled to adjust time on LIFEPAK devices and the Microsoft Windows operating system must be updated with the latest DST updates. The time synchronization feature can be enabled in the Device Data Reception tab of the LIFENET System Configuration of the application. For DT EXPRESS software Customers, the time synchronization feature must be enabled to adjust time on LIFEPAK devices and the Microsoft Windows operating system must be updated with the latest DST updates. The time synchronization feature can be enabled in the Communications tab of the Configuration Properties of the application.
