Motion Detector Controller (Option)

Section 1

The WRM-5104 motion sensor controller from Douglas is supplied on a typical project. The PIR detectors rely on the fact that all warm objects emit infra-red light. The detector lens is made of many small sub-lenses that each “look-out” in a different direction.

The result is like the quills of a porcupine. Each sublens, focuses the infra-red light it “sees” on to an infrared sensor element. If the amount of infra-red light focussed on the element changes quickly, the sensor element creates a voltage that is interpreted as a signal that motion has occurred. The three (3) wires between the control unit and the relays must be #18AWG.

The control unit is wired directly to the relays or on an MC-6308 Input Module.

The lighting control system installed is a computer based system which provides individual or group control of each lighting circuit and individual dimming channel. Each circuit can be automatically controlled by an individual schedule established to suit the time requirements of the occupants in the particular area, or circuits can be grouped together to simultaneously control a larger area. Four forms of override of the automatic operation are available.

Each circuit can be manually addressed from the central computer.

Switches can be connected directly to any relay.

Section 1

Each dimming channel/preset can be manually addressed from the central computer virtual ALCII

Control Station.

Each dimming channel/preset can be manually addressed by the ALCII Control Station.

A switch can be connected to the remote computer interface (programmable switch).

The central computer is based on a standard desk top personal computer with Windows 95,

Windows 98, Windows NT3.51 or Windows NT 4.0 . There is also an optional printer to provide a written record of all the switching activity.

Each remote panel contains relays pre-wired to the interface computer. Every interface computer in the system has an individual address. The relays are individually wired to a unique terminal on the interface computer. That terminal location corresponds to the local relay address. Relays are provided to meet the required initial circuiting. Additional relays may be added as required at any time up to the maximum space available in the panel. All the relays controlled by the central computer are displayed on the monitor in their "ON" or "OFF" status. The relay status is polled by the remote interface panel and can be used to update the computer optional graphics.

Each dimming panel contains dimming channels pre-defined to the interface computer. Every interface computer in the system has an individual address. The dimming channels are individually patched to a series of dimmer outputs inside the ALCII Master Card. The dimmer racks are provided to meet the required initial circuiting. All the channels controlled by the central computer virtual ALCII Control Station are displayed on the monitor at their levels. The levels can be updated to verify their current values.

With the interface computer address and the local relay address together we get the system relay address. Using the system relay address we can reference all the relays in the system. At start-up we define a file that contains a code name for every relay address. The circuit connected to a relay is controlled by using its assigned code name. The code name is fully user definable and can be updated as required to reflect changes in tenant areas or operation.

For each ALCII Control Stations we can reference the channels associated with every station in the system. At start-up we define a file that contains a name for every channel of every station in the system. The channel name is fully user definable and can be updated as required to reflect changes in tenant areas or operation.

The system provides a format for defining groups of code names (lighting circuits) which are required to operate together under a common group name. The grouping is fully user definable and can be updated as required to reflect changes in tenant areas or operation. An individual code name can be

PDM / DOUGLAS Introduction-13

MC-600 System included in as many different groups as required.

Section 1

When it is necessary to group a very large number of code names under a common name, the system uses supergroups. The supergroup provides a format for defining groups of groups of code names

(lighting circuits). This feature is also fully user definable and can be updated as required to reflect changes in tenant areas or operation. A group name can be included in as many different supergroups as required.

The system provides a format for defining presets of channel levels which are required to operate together under a common preset name. The association of channel levels is fully user definable and can be updated as required to reflect changes in tenant areas or operation. A preset must have a channel level for every channel associated with the particular ALCII Control Station. A maximum of 8 presets can be defined for each ALCII Control Station in the system.

Each group or supergroup can be individually scheduled by the user for automatic "ON" and "OFF" operation. A schedule can be set for the same operation every day, week days only, individual schedules for each day of the week, or a combination of these. In addition, the system can include a series of special holiday schedules, as required by the various occupants. Each schedule can be user updated as required to allow for temporary or permanent changes in the needs of the controlled area.

Each preset can be individually scheduled by the user for automatic execution. A schedule can be set for the same execution every day, week days only, individual schedules for each day of the week, or a combination of these. In addition, the system can include a series of special holiday schedules, as required by the various occupants. Each schedule can be user updated as required to allow for temporary or permanent changes in the needs of the controlled area.

Each group or supergroup can be addressed by a local low voltage switch which is wired through the local computer interface. This programmable switch is user programmed via the central computer keyboard to control the required code names. Since this type of manual override is dependant on the remote interface computer, the local group switch will not function if the remote interface computer is inoperative.

Each preset can be recalled by a local low voltage switch which is wired through the local computer interface. This programmable switch is user programmed via the central computer keyboard to control the required preset. Since this type of manual override is dependant on the remote interface computer, the local preset switch will not function if the remote interface computer is inoperative.

Each code name, group, or supergroup can be individually addressed via the telephone system.

A building occupant can use any Touch Tone telephone to dial a 7 digit dedicated local telephone number which will be connected to the computer. Upon hearing the computer's answering tone, the occupant will

PDM / DOUGLAS Introduction-14

MC-600 System Section 1 use the telephone keypad to enter the access password and the telephone control number for the area to be controlled, and signify whether the circuit should be turned "ON" or "OFF". Typically the "ON" function press the "*" key and press the "#" key for the "OFF". The telephone interface will then signal the appropriate action. The system offers the possibility of adding hardware to permit a total of up to eight telephone lines.

Each code name, group, or supergroup can be individually masked via the telephone system to prevent an automatic scheduled event. A building occupant can proceed as before to dial the computer.

Upon hearing the computer's answering tone, the occupant uses the telephone keypad to the access password and enter "*" and than the telephone control number for the area to be controlled, and signify whether the circuit should be masked or unmasked. To mask a circuit number press the "*" key and press the "#" key to unmask it. The telephone interface will then signal the appropriate action.

Each relay, group or supergroup of relays can be individually addressable from the central computer keyboard. The operator simply selects the function and selects the code name(s) required. The computer will signal the appropriate action.

Each dimming channel or preset of channels can be individually addressable from the central computer keyboard. The operator simply selects the corresponding virtual ALCII Control Station and operates the station as required. The computer will signal the appropriate action.

Each relay can be individually addressed by a local low voltage switch which is wired directly to the relay in the appropriate relay cabinet. Since this type of manual override is not dependant on the computer, the local switch will function even if the central computer, data line or remote interface computer are inoperative.
