The art of setting the lighting stage
PASO II hits all the right buttons when it comes to setting dramatic contemporary lighting scenes whilst remaining unobtrusive itself. PASO II is
a great solution even for stylistically sensitive façades and interiors: the
compact model of the recessed floor luminaire without a frame fits into
any scenario perfectly.
The luminaire itself – not just the diffuser – is round or square. A generous
helping of lighting technology packed into 3 different size models allows
fine tuning to meet a variety of needs. Cover frames and glass diffuser
panels make unsightly screw heads, lampholders and swivelling mechanisms disappear. Corrosion-resistant steel ensures that the luminaire
retains its natural sheen for many years.

The PASO II recessed floor luminaire is an extremely versatile lighting tool for architectural
lighting. It can handle both decorative and
functional tasks in indoor as well as outdoor
areas. The luminaire itself remains unobtrusively in the background. The only thing that
counts is the light and all its different variations.

With PASO II, we have managed to design an extensive product line that
features high quality across the entire range. In all model sizes, the focus
is on latest-generation luminaires featuring modern LED technology. This
provides greater diversity of choice in terms of both design and lighting
quality.
Square and round luminaires available in three sizes and two overall
heights make the PASO II luminaire range absolutely perfect for projects
of any size. That’s not all: the versatility of this system means that designers have almost unlimited choice when it comes to creative design, lighting effects and the option of indoor or outdoor locations.
PASO II recessed floor luminaires all share certain common distinguishing quality characteristics: shallow mounting depths, excellent thermal
management and a patented, reliable sealing system. Easy installation
and wiring are other features which apply throughout the entire product

PASO II luminaires are available in up to three different frame designs.
This makes it possible to achieve various looks and impressions. This
diversity makes this luminaire product line both a design feature and a
problem solver. It also opens up attractive ways of adapting the luminaire
to suit the architecture, interior or colour scheme in any application situation.
PASO II | OVERLAPPING
Concealing problem areas Not all flooring materials can be cut precisely to match the shape of a luminaire. Tiles, plastic floor coverings and
carpets can only be cut at great expense or to a limited extent. In such
cases, a cover frame hides problem areas around the casting surround.
With its low profile, it provides a matching frame for the luminaire – without exposed screw heads.
PASO II | FLUSH FITTING
Building without barriers Just a few millimetres are often enough to
cause accidents or hinder free movement of wheelchair users. PASO II
recessed floor luminaires smooth the way for circulation areas. All sizes
of this luminaire are available as units that are completely flush fitting.
PASO II | FRAMELESS
Doing away with a metal frame The smallest of the three models
(PASO II D/Q 120) can be stripped down even further. By deliberately
dispensing with a solid special-steel frame, the luminaire emphasises the
harmonious overall architectural picture. It even goes well with yellow
metals such as brass or gold. Four torque screws secure the luminaire
glass firmly so that it is burglar-proof.

Many talented new additions to the product line
The highlight of the latest extension to the PASO II product range is a
large number of innovative LED models. Thanks to modern LED technology, all optics, shapes and sizes achieve high levels of performance and
are extremely energy-efficient: round or square, all diameters and side
lengths – 120 mm, 190 mm or 260 mm.
Besides efficient lighting technology, the new LED luminaires have another advantage: sophisticated thermal management. As accessible
surfaces become no warmer than 40°C and are thus safe to touch, the
luminaire can be used in areas frequented by the public without the need
for additional protective measures. Further attractive features for users
include lower energy consumption and a very long service life.
Groundbreaking SoftLED In PASO II orientation luminaires, innovative
LED technology is used as the primary light source. It allows decorative
monochromatic or variable RGB colour pinpoint lighting. When fitted with
a completely frosted glass cover, all three different size luminaires produce accurate, glare-free light.
Extra powerful PowerLED PASO II has turned a vision into reality: energy-saving light-emitting diodes can now handle even demanding lighting tasks. These luminaires fitted with PowerLEDs can be powered directly from the mains supply. The accent spotlights use swivellable optics
and partially frosted glass diffusers to focus white or coloured light into
impressively narrow-beam columns of light.

Small luminaire for pinpoint accent lighting
With a side length of just 120 mm, the smallest of the three PASO II
models provides sophisticated accent lighting and can handle smaller
lighting tasks on its own. With a mounting depth of only 140 mm, including the casting surround, the space it requires has also been kept to a
minimum.
Solid special steel characterises the appearance of the luminaire – optionally with a frame that is flush with the floor, or an overlapping frame.
The model without a frame is a special feature of this range. All that can
be seen is the burglar-proof glass secured by four torque screws. PASO
II even goes well with yellow metals such as brass or gold.
Typical applications of the small luminaire include retail spaces or wellness areas. It also does a great job of accentuating architectural details
such as columns, alcoves or surfaces. Besides new LED technology,
traditional light sources such as QR-CBC 51 IRC halogen and MicroLynx
F 6 W compact fluorescent lamps can also be used. In this way, the small
PASO II luminaire can tackle various lighting tasks from pinpoint illumination through to glare-free diffuse light.
A general-purpose box with IP 67 protection has been developed for
installing the control gear. It protects sensitive devices against soiling and
moisture.

Far from middling
The medium-size PASO II teams a clear stylistic idiom with compact
external dimensions. With a mounting depth of just 160 mm or 220 mm
and a diameter or a side length of 190 mm, this luminaire provides sufficient space to accommodate halogen, HIT or compact fluorescent
lamps.
Its degree of technical lighting flexibility is equally high. PASO II 190 illuminates retail areas with extreme precision, focuses on architectural
details, and guides people through corridors and galleries without glare.
TC-TEL compact fluorescent lamps are best suited for guiding tasks.
With a tightly focused 1700 lumen package, power-saving HIT-TC-CE
20 W lamps produce intense columns of light.
Efficient LEDs bring colour to columns of light. Colour changing RGB
models are available as well as monochrome white models. In luminaires
with completely frosted glass diffusers, a PASO II LED provides glare-free
illumination of corridors and circulation areas. A low surface temperature
of 35°C or 38°C makes the LED models ideal for areas with heavy public
footfall, hospitals and wellness areas.
Easy to install and compact In the medium-size model and larger
units, the control gear is accommodated inside the luminaire housing.
Through-wiring is possible thanks to two cable entries.
Straightforwardly flexible All reflectors and reflector lamps can be
swivelled, thus allowing fine adjustment of the cone of light on site.
Compact fluorescent lamps are the only exception.

A big and powerful presence
Technical lighting “power packages” are used in the large PASO II 260.
HIT-TC-CE lamps rated 35 or 70 W in superspot or flood designs set the
stage with tall columns of light that attractively illuminate rooms with
ceilings as high as 8 metres. Wallwashers with HIT lamps in a horizontal
position make it possible to brighten walls uniformly. The TC-TEL 26 W
luminaire has a diffuse lighting pattern and can take on much more than
simply traditional orientation tasks.
Modern LED technology has achieved a pre-eminent position in this luminaire range. The reasons why are obvious: LED luminaires are powerful and efficient. They offer various colour temperatures and can be used
for high-precision accent lighting as well as for decorative tasks.
Like the smaller models, PASO II 260 can also be fitted with colour filters,
IR blocking filters and honeycomb meshes.

Problem solved thanks to shallow mounting depth
The extra low-profile PASO II, which is available in sizes 190 and 260, is
only 100 mm high, including its casting surround. This floor luminaire is
not recessed in the concrete but in the actual screeded floor without
impacting on structural calculations. This does away with one of the most
common obstacles to installing a luminaire in the location that is best
from a technical lighting viewpoint.
The extra low-profile model PASO II is also supplied complete with all
control gear and two cable glands for through-wiring. The luminaire is
installed either flush with the floor or with an overlapping cover frame. In
technical lighting terms, this version offers two basic alternatives: a wallwasher with a HIT-TC-CE 20 W or 35 W lamp can be used to throw bright
light asymmetrically onto one side of the room or façade without subjecting passers-by to glare, while the 18 W TC-TEL compact fluorescent
lamp illuminates a room diffusely without glare.

Very safe and well protected
The proven technology of the PASO II recessed floor luminaire also
makes it a highly desirable downlight. In areas where there is high relative
humidity or heavy exposure to dust or insects, this all-round sealed luminaire ensures durability and functional reliability. Selected models are
available complete with accessories for recessed mounting.
Typical applications for this luminaire with IP 65 protection include entrance areas, canopy roofs and unenclosed shelters. PASO II also does
a valuable job in roofed-over arcades and passageways. A special installation kit for luminaires with a cover frame simplifies installation in suitable ceiling panels. For the flush-mounted model, the casting surround
is fixed directly into the ceiling.
Even when PASO II is used as a downlight, relamping is straightforward
and does not involve disassembly.

For integral lighting concepts
Recessed floor luminaires fulfil an important function in integral lighting
concepts. Besides illuminance levels, in the case of PASO II luminaires
the colour mix can also be controlled – for instance by using variablecolour LED units or colour filters.
A digital DALI control line facilitates integration. An intuitively operated
touch panel ensures straightforward handling. It makes it possible to call
up pre-programmed lighting scenarios involving several luminaires at the
press of a button.
In retail spaces, for instance, light colours open up the way to dramatic
lighting with a wealth of effects. Highly effective lighting effects for daytime and night-time are possible; fashion trends and seasonal variations
can also be taken into account.

Accessible glass surface
DIN IEC 60598-2-13 sets out the requirements placed on recessed floor
luminaires. It specifies surface temperature limits and robustness when
subjected to static loads. Every PASO II luminaire meets the requirements of this standard – to protect both people and property.
Close relationship between lighting technology and temperature.
The temperature of the glass surface is controlled in several ways in the
case of PASO II. Surface temperature is controlled by proven LED technology thermal management, new reflector techniques, modified lamp
positions and by using white glass.
The maximum permissible temperature of the glass surface is a decisive
factor during project planning. The table below shows relevant temperatures on the glass surface and should make it easier to decide on the
right luminaire.

PASO II accessories
For fast, safe installation
Casting surround kit This kit guarantees fast, safe installation in or
above concrete ceilings. A sturdy, plastic cover prevents the ingress of
liquid concrete, is anti-slip and also reduces risk of accidents on site.
Markings on the cover make linear or diagonal alignment of several recessed floor luminaires easier. The strong upper edge made of special
steel is difficult to crush or break. It effectively secures the position of the
luminaire and does not leave any signs of corrosion of the kind that may
occur in the case of galvanised materials. The insulation plate prevents
the formation of condensate when installed in floor slabs. Luminaires and
casting surrounds are supplied separately in order to afford a high degree of flexibility.
Kits for all models Round, square or extra low-profile version: this
casting surround only needs minimum space and can be safely mounted
above the concrete slab.

Installation kit for hollow floors and
hollow ceilings This installation kit
securely fixes PASO II luminaires with
an overlapping frame cover into ceiling panels or raised wooden floors. It
presses the luminaire housing against
the surrounding panel or slab, thereby
replacing the casting surround. In the
case of the 260 mm model, the installation kit is supplemented with a safety
wire to prevent the luminaire from falling down.
Flush mounting The luminaire can be
installed perfectly flush with the floor in
the fair-faced floor screeds. The upper
edge of the casting surround forms the
level for the screed. The special-steel
frame prevents unsightly brown streaks
around the luminaire.
Luminaires with an overlapping
frame typically conceal problem
areas that occur in flooring materials
such as carpet, parquet, laminates
or cork.
Installation in raised floors Luminaires with an overlapping frame can
also be installed in raised wooden
floors adopting the same principle
used for installing downlights.
Downlight installation Luminaires
with an overlapping frame can also be
installed in a downlight position. The
hollow floor or downlight installation kit
jams the luminaire housing against the
ceiling panel. The large luminaire with
a side length or diameter of 260 mm is
fitted with a safety wire in order to prevent the luminaire from falling down.
PASO II installation tips
For straightforward, accurate installation
Like the entire PASO II recessed floor luminaire product range, the casting surrounds are high-quality components which are designed to be
easy to install. Thus, installation and wiring can be completed quickly and
give economically and visually outstanding results.
A special kit makes it simple to set the
luminaire in concrete. The luminaire
housing is positioned and the alignment of the luminaire and the swivellable reflectors is defined in a single
operation.
The cover is robust, and can be screw-fastened and walked
over. The reticule simplifies longitudinal, transverse or diagonal alignment with the aid of a chalk line.
Through-wiring is possible in the
case of the medium and large models
(190 mm and 260 mm diameter).
Through-wiring The two cable glands for through-wiring
are each supplied with a blanking plug for cable entries that
are not needed.
The small PASO II 120 mm luminaire
can, alternatively, be wired to the IP 67
general-purpose box radially. The latter
is also suitable for through-wiring and
installing external power supply units.
PASO IP D/Q120 IP 67 general-purpose box The generalpurpose box is a safe place to accommodate external control gear in damp locations or outdoor areas. Appropriate
cables can be through-wired or cross-connected to terminals suitable for cable diameters from 0.8 to 2.5 mm. The
IP 67 general-purpose box also affords adequate protection
for halogen transformers or LED power supply units.

The casting surround for all three
design sizes is positioned so that the
upper edge of the special-steel frame
corresponds to the level of the exposed concrete, fl oor screed or fl ooring material. This way, fl ush-mounted
luminaires are absolutely level with the
fl oor without any protruding edge that
might cause tripping. Using an insulation plate increases the mounting depth
by 30 mm.
The extra low-profi le casting surround
for the PASO II 190 and PASO II 260 is
positioned above the concrete slab in
the fl oor screed. The insulation plate
with a mounting depth of 30 mm is
fi tted for additional protection against
condensate.
When installed outdoors, provide drainage layer of at least 300 mm instead of
the insulation plate, so that water can
escape through the gravel.
Tips for installation in asphalt Provide drainage, allow
asphalt to cool to no more than 80 °C and distribute it around
the casting surround manually.
