Mini DM debuts
— The DM1000 redefines the meaning of small format Digital mixer. —
With the DM2000 Digital Production Console and 02R96 Digital Mixing Console having become established in
the professional production market this year, Yamaha is launching yet another new console at AES in October 2002.
The new DM1000 digital production console is a direct sibling of the flagship DM2000, in a very compact rack
mountable body of 577 (D) × 199 (H) × 430 (W) mm (22.7" × 7.8" × 16.9"), 19 kg (42 lbs).
While it shares key features such as 96 kHz audio, Surround Monitoring, Studio Manager, and DAW Control with
the DM2000 and 02R96, the DM1000 is designed especially for commercial production needs such as post-production, audio for video, and broadcast. Being rack mountable, it can also be used in any application, including
live sound reinforcement.
The three consoles DM2000, 02R96 and DM1000 are compatible with each other, with mix data easily interchangeable using bundled Studio Manager software.
From large format to small format, Yamaha offers a solution for all digital mixing needs.
The DM1000 is set for delivery in March 2003, at a projected price of SRP US$5,000 (excluding the MB1000 meter
bridge and SP1000 side panel).

DM1000 FEATURES
96 kHz standard
Top-quality channel compression, gating,
EQ, and delay
Unlike conventional equipment that operates in 96 kHz mode
only with a reduced number of channels, this Yamaha console
imposes no such limitations, delivering the full number of
channels at 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz. Full 96 kHz
resolution with 32-bit internal processing and 58-bit accumulators is the standard for the DM1000 (and for the
DM2000 and 02R96).
With the DM1000, you get 48 channels of transparent,
super-dynamic 24-bit/96 kHz audio, plus all the additional
effects and processing you’ll ever need for most applications.
Yamaha has included a comprehensive range of 96 kHz compatible stereo effects with 32-bit internal processing in the
DM1000 – plus several designed specifically for surround.
And you can use as many as four individual effect processors
simultaneously.
All 48 input channels of the DM1000 feature flexible, independent compression and gating/ducking processors for
dynamics control. The four-band parametric channel equalizers also offer extra versatility with switchable “type I” or
“type II” EQ algorithms to deliver the type of EQ response
you prefer. Even the channel delay goes beyond the norm,
with a maximum delay of 453 milliseconds.
Expandable data libraries
Setting up EQ, compression, and other parameters for a mix
from scratch can be a daunting task, so Yamaha has provided
an extensive selection of presets in a range of “libraries” that
can simply be selected and used unmodified, or edited to suit
specific requirements. Libraries are provided for effects, compression, gating, EQ, I/O patching, and more. Of course, your
own setups can be added to the libraries for instant recall
whenever they are needed.
Finest analog mic preamps & converters
The head amplifiers are derived from the acclaimed DM2000
– some of the finest analog mic preamps available in any console, anywhere. The on-board 24-bit/96 kHz AD/DA converters ensure that you get an excellent digital representation of
the warm, transparent output from these remarkable mic
preamps.
The DM1000 is equipped with 20 analog inputs with XLR
connectors, 16 of which have mic preamps, and 12 analog
outputs with XLR connectors.
It also provides two I/O slots each capable of 16 channels of
I/O, which you can configure to your needs using
Mini-YGDAI digital and analog I/O cards.
I/O expandability and plug-in capability
The DM1000’s real I/O versatility comes in the form of two
Mini-YGDAI expansion slots. The expansion slots are
24-bit/96 kHz compatible, so you can select I/O and processing cards to provide the input/output configuration and processing capabilities that are perfect for your needs. Whether
you need digital I/O in ADAT, TASCAM, or AES/EBU format,
or extra analog I/O capability, the appropriate Mini-YGDAI
cards are available. A 16-channel ADAT card (MY16-AT) is
now available and 16-channel TASCAM and AES/EBU cards
(MY16-TD, MY16-AE) are set for delivery in March 2003.
Apogee’s high-performance A/D and D/A cards are also supported, as is the very powerful Waves Y56K effects plug-in
card.
(For more information and/or guidance on the use of
Mini-YGDAI cards, visit www.yamahaproaudio.com)
48 channels in three layers, plus extraordinary patching flexibility
One of the advantages of working with digital is that it allows
maximum power and flexibility to be packed into minimum
space. On the DM1000, seventeen precision 100-millimeter
motorized channel faders can be instantly layer-switched to
control any of 48 channels, plus auxiliary, bus, and remote
channels.
What’s more, all available inputs, outputs, effects, and channel inserts can be assigned to any of the console’s channels or
outputs via the DM1000’s remarkably versatile, easy-to-use
digital patching system. The eight auxiliary buses can also be
patched to anywhere in the system, and patch setups you
might want to use again can be stored in the patch library for
instant recall at any time.
A complete surround solution
The DM1000 provides everything you need for complete surround processing, panning and monitoring – including mini
joystick – without any external equipment or the need to reassign channels for surround use. In addition to graphic monitor configuration displays, the DM1000 also provides
multi-channel surround pan/position displays so you can see
at a glance where multiple channels sit in the surround mix.
Additional facilities provided by the monitor processing section include individual bus (speaker) muting and attenuation, overall level control for all monitor outputs, bass
management for subwoofer delivery, independent delays for
precision speaker tuning, fold-down mixing and stem mix
monitoring via independent source selection capability for
each expansion slot.

Intuitive and consistent interface
designed for maximum productivity
Studio manager software supplied
The DM1000 comes with Yamaha’s Studio Manager application for both Macintosh® and Windows® platforms, allowing
total control and management of all console parameters via
a comprehensive graphic interface.
Studio Manager also serves as a common medium for
exchanging mix data between the DM1000, DM2000 and
02R96.
The user interface of the DM1000 is consistent with the
DM2000 and 02R96. If you’ve used either of them before,
you’ll feel right at home with the DM1000. Though much
smaller than the other two, the selected channel of the
DM1000 gives you realtime control of essential functions.
There are also twelve user-defined keys which can be assigned
the functions of your choice.
Integrated DAW control
Comprehensive automation and scene
control
The DM1000 has been designed to integrate tightly with leading digital audio workstations such as Digidesign’s Pro Tools®
system, Steinberg’s Nuendo® and E-Magic’s Logic Audio to
create a complete production and mixing environment. Mixing and processing parameters, as well as transport control
and editing functions can be controlled directly from the
DM1000 panel.
Since the DM1000 employs the same control protocol as
Yamaha’s flagship DM2000 and 02R96, collaboration with
software/hardware developers brings the same benefits to all
three consoles.
The DM1000 takes automation and scene memory recall to
new levels of precision and ease-of-use. While providing full
automation of virtually all console parameters, the DM1000
features smooth and quiet touch-sensitive, 100mm motorized faders that make writing and updating automated mixes
faster and more intuitive than ever. And all automation data
is recorded at 1/4-frame accuracy to ensure excellent precision.
Meter bridge
For more information, contact your local
Yamaha subsidiary and their websites, or
visit www.yamahaproaudio.com
The MB1000 Peak Meter Bridge is a complete level-monitoring station with sixteen 12-segment level meters that can be
used to display pre-EQ, pre-fader, or post-fader input channel signal levels. An additional eight meters display levels of
the console’s eight buses. The MB1000 also features a
time-code display.
A separate 32-segment stereo meter is provided beside the
LCD screen of the main unit.
