In 1969 Klemens Waterkotte was the first to develop and install a heat pump in Germany. He
was therefore a pioneer and trailblazer for a new technology. To make his ground-breaking
invention useful for others he founded a company that bears his name today. Klemens Waterkotte was always looking for the best technical solution and the most efficient system.

Heat pumps from WATERKOTTE have the longest service lives. Some that were installed almost 40 years ago are still in use. WATERKOTTE therefore has the most extensive known-how
and the best references. Our air and ground source heat pumps are manufacturing only at the
company's headquarters in Herne. Made in Germany is the guarantor for excellent product
quality. We produce heat pumps in the power classes from 2 kW to 1,000 kW. Even just this
power spectrum - which hardly any other manufacturer can match - demonstrates the depth

Heating cleanly and economically with heat pumps
The future has started
The cleanest and most economical energy stems from
the ground, the air and groundwater. Heat pumps extract
the thermal energy stored there and convert it to a temperature suitable for heating. It is only necessary to use a
small amount of electricity to operate a heat pump. The
expense is approx. 20 - 25 % of the thermal energy obtained. In this way 80 % of the necessary thermal energy
can be obtained free of charge from nature.
For the sake of our environment
The usage of a heat pump also protects the environment.
Unlike burning conventional fuels such as heating oil, gas
or wood pellets, a heat pump does not cause any harmful
CO2. As we know, CO2 harms our climate. It is responsible for the greenhouse effect and therefore for global
warming. With your personal decision for a heat pump,
you will make an important contribution to the protection
of the environment.
Saving energy and being independent
What was for a long time was wishful thinking is now
reality. With a heat pump you make yourself independent of the changes in gas and oil prices. In the long-term
this independence will be a major economic advantage.
The heat pump is by far the most efficient and economical heating system. For this reason they are increasingly
widespread.
The different systems at a glance
There are many different ways to make the energy stored
in nature useful. The technical principle of the heat pump
is like that of a fridge. WATERKOTTE has developed efficient heat pumps for each of the natural sources of thermal energy: the ground, air and groundwater. In the drawings below you will find a brief overview of the different
systems.
Ground source heating
1.Geothermal probe
Geothermal probes are placed deep in the ground using
vertical bores. In this way heat can be obtained efficiently
from deeper layers in the ground using a geothermal system. The number of metres of bore depends on the quality of the ground and the heat required.
2. Horizontal collector
Surface collectors are laid horizontally at a depth of approx. 1.20 m. They absorb energy stored in the ground
via plastic pipes distributed over a large area. The area required for a horizontal collector is dependent on the heat
required and is normally very large.
3. Vertical collector
Laying surface collectors vertically requires much less
space than a horizontal collector. For this purpose the
collectors reach down to a depth of up to 3.20 m. They
can be laid without the need for approval from the authorities anywhere in Germany.

The cost-effectiveness of heat pump heating depends
to a large extent on the construction of the property,
the usage behaviour of its occupants and the amount
of heat required. It is therefore very important to study
these aspects in detail and to make the necessary calculations before selecting a heat pump.

Groundwater source heating
The usage of the energy stored in ground water is particularly effective. However, it is only possible if the necessary geological requirements are met. The necessary access to the groundwater is achieved with the installation
of a well system.

The installation of an air source heat pump as a purely
outdoor unit is particularly economical. It does not require
any ground work. There are various designs available
from a pure monoblock to units with hydraulic stations
and water tanks for indoor installation.
The classic air source heat pump of split design has a
heat pump with fan for outdoor installation and a transfer
station with heat exchanger for indoor installation. The hot
water tank can be integrated in the indoor unit if required.
Air source heat pumps installed in buildings draw heat
and moisture from the ambient air. They are often used in
private households and industry for the economical heating of domestic water and process water.

The Ai1 Geo offers a perfect solution for costconscious clients. Ai1 stands for "All in One". The complete system provides all the heating functions you need.
The Ai1 is a complete central heating system.

The air/water source heat pump has a split design with
indoor and outdoor unit. Both modules are exactly
matched to each other. As a result excellent performance
figures are achieved.
So quiet - you can hardly hear it
The outdoor unit comprises a weather-resistant housing
with special insulation. In this way it was possible to reduce significantly the noise emissions. The fans operate
so quietly that you hardly hear them.
Air-conditioner function included
The indoor unit impresses with a modern controller. Along
with the heating function and hot water supply, it also has
a cooling module. The air-conditioner for hot summer
days is delivered at the same time.

For winter and summer
The newly developed Basic Line BM 7010 was designed
as a compact air source heat pump for outdoor installation. The Monoblock is suitable for heating and cooling
low-energy buildings.
Control technology of your choice
The outdoor unit contains all the heat pump technology.
Only the wall-mounted control module BM Mod 5010 or,
optionally, the innovative hydraulic module BM Hyd 5010
is installed in the building.
Efficient and powerful
Thanks to the inverter-controlled compressor, the BM
7010 operates extremely energy-efficiently. Due to the infinitely variable adjustment of the power it impresses with
high performance. Even at outdoor temperatures of -15
°C, flow temperatures of 55° C are possible.
Hardly a sound
The high-quality housing has special noise insulation. In
this way the noise emissions are reduced to a minimum.
The outdoor unit can be installed quickly and straightforwardly. The installer does not need to be a qualified
refrigeration specialist.

technology, in the form of either a control module or a
hydraulic station, is installed in the building.
Convenient operation
The control panel for the module comprises a high-quality LCD with buttons. The BasicPro software installed is
straightforward and intuitive to operate. Important operating data are displayed continuously.
Basic controller for the Monoblock
The control module is suitable on the usage of the Monoblock with only one control loop. Connected to the outdoor unit via a cable, it can be space-savingly installed on
any indoor wall.

With the control module the Monoblock becomes an efficient heating and cooling system that is straightforward to
install. As a supplementary solution for the supply of hot

The hydraulic station offers the possibility of docking other units, e.g. domestic hot water tank or PV module. It
becomes the control centre for your heating system.
Well equipped with software
You can connect up to 4 additional control loops. The

Control is then via the high-quality LCD control panel.
Ensuring supply of hot water
The features include a high-quality circulation pump and
an electrical heating element. With an additional water
tank the hydraulic station can safeguard the supply of hot
water for your home.

Easy to operate thanks to mature software
The control software BasicPro was specially developed
for ground and air/water source heat pumps in the Basic
Line series. It is based on the standard software that has
been in use at WATERKOTTE for years. The individual
menu steps are logically structured and make operation
intuitive.
Comprehensive measured data available
All units in the Basic Line series are equipped with extensive sensors. Measured data are acquired at the important stages in the refrigerant circulation. You can read
the parameters and the measured results on the display.
Problems in the system are displayed in the alarm and
information manager.
Mobile control via Internet possible
The heat pump can be configured using the modern
display and weather-based control ensured for efficient
heating and cooling. A web interface can be installed
as an option. In this way you can also control your heat
pump on the move.
Additional units can be coupled
BasicPro also makes it possible to control additional functions such as domestic hot water production or living area
ventilation. In this way the control unit for the heat pump
takes on a central control function in the system. All functions are already integrated in the software.

The EcoTouch DS/DA series were designed for heating
systems with separate domestic hot water heating. The
indoor units feature high performance figures and can be
used with large domestic hot water tanks.
Mobile control included
With the EasyCon control software, ease of use is raised
to a high level. The features include the Web Interface
NetBase. Completely mobile control using a smartphone
and app is possible.

The DS 5018 Ai impresses with the high-quality features

Quiet like the beat of a wing
Operation as quiet as possible
Along with the efficiency, the noise level of air source heat
pumps during operation is the most important quality
factor. Air source heat pumps often do not meet the expectations of their users in relation to noise emissions. At
Waterkotte, the technically ideal solution is always of
paramount importance. For this reason, the reduction of
noise emissions was given highest priority in the development of the ES 7018.
Learning from nature
The fan is one of the most important components of the
air source heat pump. When designing the fan for the ES
7018, the engineers applied knowledge gained from nature. The silent flight of the owl served as model. Researchers believe that this ability stems from the owl's wings and
feathers
The wing shape of the owl should also improve the aeroacoustics of the new fan.
Systematic noise reduction
The running noises of an air source heat pump are primarily
produced by the fan. The ventilation grille and other components can also contribute to the production of noise.
We have thoroughly analysed each of these noise factors
and systematically reduced or completely eliminated them.
The result of this optimisation is phenomenal. The ES 7018
operates more quietly than just about any other unit in its
power class.
Larger wings mean less noise
A barn owl weighs almost the same as a pigeon. However, the wings are significantly larger and have a stronger
curvature. This feature provides the bird with considerably
more lift at lower speeds. Pigeons, on the other hand, have
to beat their wings harder and are therefore audible from
a distance. For this reason, the fan blades of the ES 7018
are considerably larger than those of units with a comparable heating capacity.

Optimised with fringes and serrations
Owl wings have fringes at their edges. These ensure that
the airflows from the top and bottom of the wing meet
more gently and more quietly at the trailing edge. Our fan
blades also have serrations based on this principle. There is
a second effect. At times, birds lift individual feathers. This
reduces the air resistance of the wing. The fan blades of
the ES 7018, inspired by owl wings, are therefore equipped
with a bend at the edge.
High efficiency and long service life
Fortunately, by lowering the noise emissions we were
also able to significantly reduce the power requirement.
Our measurements show an improvement in efficiency of
approx. 18% compared to the conventional design. The
resulting COP is up to 5.1 and allows a very economical
operation. The high quality aluminium housing of the ES
7018 also protects against corrosion and ensures a long
service life of the unit.
Additional component improvements
Our engineers have also improved the distribution of the
equipment between the indoor and outdoor unit. It was
therefore possible to reduce noise by moving a compressor to the outdoor unit. Finally, an optimisation of the ventilation grille was achieved by calculating air volumes and
cross section. This was followed by numerous tests until
the ideal combination was found. The measured value for
the ES 7018 is now 34 db(A) sound pressure at 4 m.
An outstanding product
Our engineers have been successful in reaching their ambitious development goals. The typical disadvantages of
air source heat pumps such as noise emissions and low
efficiency have been largely neutralised. Now, with the ES
7018, you can decide for an outstandingly low-noise, efficient air source heat pump. This makes the EcoTouch Ai1
Air without doubt one of the best units on the market. It
rightly deserves to be classified as high-end.

A matter of course can become expensive
We often forget how much energy and how expensive the continuous
provision of hot water can be. A modern central heating system, for instance, guarantees water at a pleasant temperature at any time of the
year. The disadvantage: such a unit must always be switched on. Particularly in the summer this can become expensive. The oil burner then burns
fuel only so that you can have a hot shower at any time.
Exploiting the efficiency of the heat pump
Due to the usage of regenerative energy, heat pumps are also significantly
more efficient here. WATERKOTTE offers a broad range of solutions for
the supply of hot water by heat pumps. Which technical concept is right
depends on the specific building situation and the water requirements. Irrespective of whether new heating system or old system, WATERKOTTE

The right system for every need
In principle it is possible to differentiate between water heating integrated
into the heating system and separate solutions. With integrated tanks and
instantaneous water heaters, a heat pump can be utilised very efficiently
for domestic hot water production. On the other hand, domestic hot water heat pumps are integrated as independent systems. As such they are
also ideally suited to the renovation of old systems. They make possible a
completely independent supply of hot water. Old oil-fire systems can then
be shut down in the summer.

purpose it draws thermal energy from the ambient air and

The instantaneous water heater EcoPack was designed
for the energy-saving heating of domestic hot water. In

Living area ventilation, a must
State-of-the-art thermal protection helps save energy and
costs. This protection is achieved by means of insulation
as thick as possible that often results in an air-tight building structure. Independent, uncontrolled air exchange as
is common in badly insulated buildings no longer takes
place. It is therefore imperative to install an individual ventilation system.
Ventilation unit with peripherals
Central ventilation systems from WATERKOTTE impress
due to high efficiency and low noise emissions. They are
available perfectly matched to our heat pump series in
two variants: BasicVent and EcoVent. With the planning
directly by the manufacturer and the usage of Ventex peripheral parts, the system is really perfect. Everything simply matches.
Your ventilation planning by WATERKOTTE
Efficient, demand-based airing must be carefully planned.
Every house has its own layout and every occupant his/
her own requirements. For this reason we prepare a tailored plan for your construction project. The Basic or
EcoVent ventilation system then matches your home perfectly.
Air ducts to all rooms
The heart of the system is the central ventilation unit. This
unit is mostly installed in the attic or loft. Due to the wall
mounting it hardly takes any space. The rooms are connected to the central unit with an air duct system for the
inlet air. In bathrooms/WCs and the kitchen a duct is laid
for the exhaust air.

The diagrams are sent to you or your installer in electronic form. They will make it possible to install the system
straightforwardly.
Shaped parts and components for every connection
For the design of the air duct system, numerous shaped
parts made of sheet steel (Ventex S) and plastic (Ventex
K) are available from the Ventex range of peripherals.
They are installed space-savingly in the walls or ceilings. All ventilation and extraction connections come
together at the central ventilation unit.

We always treat your data as strictly confidential. Specially trained staff prepare the plans. For this purpose
comprehensive planning software is used that permits
the straightforward, secure electronic exchange of the
documents with the specialist partner. The entire planning process is quick and smooth, and does not involve
any further expense for you.
Economical complete package
During the individual planning we assemble a complete
package of the shaped parts and installation material
necessary for the duct system. During this process we
select the most technically appropriate and lowest cost
combination. All items are listed in detail on a parts list.
