Twenty Five Years of
Innovation
This year, Dedicated Micros is celebrating an
impressive 25 years as a pioneer in the CCTV industry.
For a quarter of a century
Dedicated Micros has stayed at
the very forefront of video
management technology. Key
innovations such as the invention
of the first commercially available
CCTV Video Multiplexer has
meant that today more than
seven million images are
recorded and viewed every
second of every day using the
company’s DVRs and network
video products.
Leading entrepreneur Mike
Newton, founded the company
back in July 4, 1982. Within two
years, Newton’s business acumen
had brought CCTV’s first
multiplexer to the market, a
landmark in the industry.
It was called the Cam-Plex, and
proved to be an instant success.

and BX2
By 1989, Dedicated Micros had
opened offices in the United
States and Australia. Four years
later, Western Europe’s office had
also been firmly established.
Driven by the entrepreneurial
spirit at the heart of Dedicated
Micros, the company’s product
development surged in leaps and
bounds with the System Sprite,
Digital Sprite Lite and the Digital
Sprite 2 all huge global success
stories.
Today, Dedicated Micros has
continued its global growth with
additional offices in New Zealand
and Canada, and a new state of
the art production facility in
Malta.
Constantly at the forefront of the
CCTV industry, technological
developments pioneered by DM
have formed the building blocks
for the success of today's CCTV
market, earning the company a
reputation as one of the
industry's foremost innovative
forces and the name behind some

The Dedicated
Design Philosophy
Technological developments pioneered by DM’s parent company, AD Group, have formed the building
blocks for the success of today’s CCTV industry. Those building blocks form the core architecture of
DM’s Networked Products. When you choose a DM product you buy DM’s fundamental design
philosophies.
NEVER STOP RECORDING
SEAMLESS SCALABILITY
The internal architecture is based on a
purpose-designed, real-time, embedded
core, rather than a modified PC, for
maximum reliability and immunity from
virus attack. Our Network Servers
contain local storage to ensure that the
recording process can continue
uninterrupted even in the
event of a network failure.
Our latest products, based on the NetVu
Connected client/server software
architecture, take IP connectivity to
another level, offering a truly scalable
solution that encompasses integrated
video capture, recording, transmission
and viewing from a single user interface.
NETWORK TRAFFIC ON
DEMAND
Network congestion is minimised by
streaming video only when it is
demanded by a viewing station. The use
of low-bit rate codecs, such as MPEG-4,
for transmission further lightens the
load, making the system “IT Managerfriendly”.
CUSTOMISATION
The ability to customise solutions is a
key element of the NetVu philosophy.
Dedicated Micros offers a range of
developers tools, including a
comprehensive JAVA-based SDK. Since
the technology is based on standard
client/server protocols, you are able to
call upon a wealth of commerciallyavailable development talent without
having to invest in costly training
programmes for proprietary packages.
EVIDENTIAL QUALITY RECORDINGS
All DM System products employ sophisticated digital signature technology such that the
recorded images, and the associated audio and meta-data information, cannot be tampered
with without detection. This level of integrity has helped secure numerous convictions in courts
around the world.
Seeing the world through your eyes.

Over the last two decades Dedicated
Micros have delivered a wealth of
innovation and experience to the
Security Industry worldwide. NetVu
Connected is the mark of excellence in
networked CCTV, offering unparalleled
scalability in a simple, easy to use format.
reducing installation and commissioning
time while retaining the Dedicated
Micros ease of use philosophy.
Images distributed from any NetVu
Connected DV-IP Server or DVR can be
viewed on any NetVu Connected display
device such as the DV-IP Decoder or
NetVu ObserVer viewing software.
NetVu Connected software lies at the
heart of numerous Dedicated Micros
products. By using NetVu Connected
products, installers and end users

offering guaranteed compatibility,
NETVU CONNECTED LINKS THE WORLD’S MOST SUCCESSFUL SECURITY BUSINESSES,

Technology Across the Range
TransCoding
Dedicated Micros PowerScript
application extends the functionality of
NetVu Connected DVR’s allowing them
to integrate into other systems. The
PowerScript feature uses the C
programming language to allow installers
and system integrators to implement and
develop scripts to enable customer
specific applications to be created.
All NetVu Connected products
containing the unique TransCoding
technology provide MPEG-4
transmission of either the recorded or
live video, independent of how the
video has been recorded, ensuring that
remote operators can view fast update
images of the best quality even over
limited bandwidth links.
Utilising PowerScript, a NetVu
Connected DVR can integrate into a BMS
(Building Management System) or other
Security Solution (such as Access
Control) to enable central control,
monitoring and notification on alarm of a
multitude of functions - for example
humidity or temperature levels in Server
rooms or Storage / Freezer rooms can
be monitored via the DVR in conjunction
with associated video footage from the
location.
NON-PC OPERATING
SYSTEM
All Dedicated Micros DVRs have an
embedded, non-PC operating system.
This means that the end-user will
encounter none of the problems
traditionally associated with PCs. The
DVR won’t hang or crash and is immune
from computer virus attacks even if it’s
connected to a local or wide area
network.
BS 8418 COMPLIANT
With central stations often billing by the
alarm response, it’s in everyone’s interest
to minimise the number of false alarms
generated by CCTV. BS 8418 compliant
features included in the Dedicated
Micros product range include false alarm
management, tamper-proof alarm
handling, an alternative signaling path,
fault tolerance and comprehensive logs.

MultiMode Recording removes the need
for 'event only' or low record rates and
provides 'always on’ recording without
increasing storage requirements.
Unique in the industry, MultiMode
Recording increases the functionality and
flexibility of the DVR. Whilst high
resolution JPEG images can be used to
capture detailed images from events – an
essential requirement in the use of
CCTV recordings for evidential purposes
- continuous MPEG-4 motion video
provides smooth background recordings
that require less storage capacity than
JPEG.
REMOTE VIEWING
Perhaps you want to view premises out
of hours or simply wish to keep an eye
on what’s going on. All Dedicated Micros
DVRs offer remote viewing as standard
either via ethernet or dial-up modem
connection. We provide free userfriendly NetVu ObserVer viewing
software that allows you to view all
cameras attached to the unit, and
operate many of the features available to
the local operator – including telemetry
control.
Unique in the industry, MultiMode
Recording increases the functionality
and flexibility of the DVR.

NetVu ObserVer
SEAMLESS VIEWING
The NetVu ObserVer video management software allows users to seamlessly view distributed images
from any NetVu Connected DVR or Video Server, from any moment in time, anywhere in the world.
Developed using DM’s innovative SDK
(Software Development Kit), NetVu
ObserVer offers flexible site management
from a single server to a large multi site
installation such as a town centre,
hospital or campus environment. Its site
tree facility allows servers and individual
cameras to be accessed quickly, and the
inclusion of the multi-site viewing facility
makes the management of sites more
efficient and responses to events even
quicker.
Built-in MPEG-4 support provides
viewing of both JPEG or MPEG-4 video
streams, allowing the user to optimise
bandwidth usage on constrained
networks. A straight forward drag and
drop GUI, together with saved screen
views provide the user with an easy to
use viewing solution, offering a seamless
single user interface to all NetVu
Connected products.
NetVu ObserVer v1.5 and above,
installed with EDP software, now
includes features that make it capable of
supporting RVRC (Remote Video
Response Centre) operation in
accordance with BS 8418. These
features are designed to provide users
and operators with a remote viewing and
alarm management capability that
seamlessly connects to DVR’s and
cameras without the need for extensive
integration.
[
NetVu ObserVer is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD on
the Dedicated Micros website and is shipped with all
NetVu Connected products.
The latest releases of NetVu ObserVer
also includes Map support in its GUI.
Users are able to use map images and
floor plans to identify camera locations
around a site, installation or CCTV
network. Clicking on the relevant
camera will instantly connect the user to
the camera image stream. The addition
of a free Map Editor plug-in allows users
to construct their own network of site
plans for use in NetVu ObserVer.
In addition, NetVu ObserVers’ built-in
replay server allows the application of
features such as picture in picture, and
GOTO event search to archived data
from a hard drive, server or DVD / CD.
NetVu ObserVer also supports the
download of video in .AVI format for
playback using Windows Media Player.
Allowing users to seamlessly view distributed video from any
“NetVu Connected” product, NetVu ObserVer can display images
from any camera, at any moment in time, anywhere in the world.

technology enables the BX2 to fully
interoperate with other NetVu
Connected products from DM including
the DV-IP Decoder, and the NetVu
ObserVer PC Viewer. NetVu Connected
technology uses industry standard
networking protocols supported by a
wide range of third-party integration
products to allow a range of
management, monitoring and
configuration activities to be conducted
remote from the unit.
Using RAID1 mirroring technology, the
BX2 continuous archive provides up to
1TB of storage from its 2TB disks. At any
time the mirror drives can be hotswapped allowing the entire storage to
be instantly removed for archive, or can
be made available for evidence without
any disruption to recording or system
operation.
By scheduling regular “hot-swap” of
mirrored drives, end-users can create
continuous archives of unlimited capacity.
RAID 1 PROTECTION
For applications where evidence needs
high levels of protection, the RAID 1
mirroring ensures that all data has an
identical back-up copy that can be used
in the unlikely event of disk failure.
25 Years of Innovation.
15
The BX2 range also includes standard
models without hot swappable disks but
includes features such as advanced
record schedule, built-in DVD Writer,
MultiMode Recording and activity search
facility in a choice of 640GB, 1.2TB or
massive 2TB storage options.

HARD DISK STORAGE
JBOD
JBOD is a high capacity external hard
disk option that simply provides
additional storage capabilities for all
DVRs and servers in the Dedicated
Micros range. When you connect one or
more JBOD devices, DM DVRs
automatically detect the available
capacities seeing them as one large
storage space, so playback, search and
archiving facilities function as normal.
JBOD units currently have a maximum
hard disk capacity of 1TB.
Applicable products: DS2, BX2,
BX2CA, DVIP Server.
RAID
RAID units function in much the same
way as the JBOD units, but have built-in
redundancy to ensure video footage
remains in tact even in the unlikely event
of disk failure. Disks and power supplies
may also be hotswapped without
affecting recording. RAID units are
available with hard disk capacities of
2.4TB, 4TB & 6TB.

DV-IP Decoder
TRADITIONAL COMPOSITE VIEWING OVER IP
With the ability to add traditional composite monitors to NetVu Connected Video Servers and DVRs,
The DV-IP Decoder is an important building block in the range of NetVu Connected products, designed
to meet the demands of 24 hour video surveillance using new or existing IP enabled computer networks.
VIDEO WALL SOLUTION
Ever been frustrated by the number of
monitor outputs on your DVR? Ever
wished you could use four quadscreens rather than a 16-way split on a
single display? Each DV-IP Decoder
supports 5 monitor outputs, all of
which can be independently driven.
This can facilitate a viable space saving
approach to building video walls in
control rooms, and other monitoring
positions, and providing that your
network has sufficient bandwidth, real
time video is achievable on all five
displays.
NETWORK IMAGE
CONVERSION
Whether the NetVu Connected device
is streaming JPEG or MPEG-4, the
DV-IP Decoder will convert these video
streams into composite PAL format
video for direct connection to a
traditional CCTV monitor or video
wall. The shift to MPEG-4 image
streaming provides significantly
increased up-date rates for dial-up or
low bandwidth users.
MULTI-SITE/MULTI-SCREEN
Another industry first, DV-IP Decoder
can format each monitor output into a
full screen or quad screen, with each
quadrant served by a different camera
from a different NetVu Connected
source. For example, a single DV-IP
Decoder can display live or recorded
images from 20 different DV-IP Servers.
5 monitor outputs, each of which can support full or quad way multi-screens offering multi-site viewing
from up to 20 different sources.
Converts network video into PAL or NTSC composite video for display on an analogue video wall.
DM’s SDK (Software Development Kit) allows custom control room applications to be developed.

DIGITAL MATRIX SOLUTION
The Pick-a-Point system brings together the CCTV system components into the control room
environment, providing you with a dedicated multiple site control solution for medium and large scale
CCTV deployments, while retaining a traditional user interface.
Pick-a-Point is able to replicate the
simplicity of operation associated with a
traditional analogue matrix by allowing
control of multiple video servers without
the need for thousands of metres of
cabling. It also offers the potential to
build a traditional composite video wall
displaying cameras from a number of
monitored sites delivering control over
any camera in the system, while retaining
all important keyboard and joystick
functionality.
From the start Pick-a-Point has been
designed to be intuitive for operators,
providing an environment they are
already familiar with, which greatly
simplifies and speeds up image retrieval.
Operators can simply pick and click
cameras using Pick-a-Point’s GUI
(Graphical User Interface) from a site’s
database to view the images they require
- without having to know which digital
video recorder the camera is linked to.
Also, unlike many virtual matrix
solutions, dependent on a PC to record,
view or playback video, Pick-a-Point is a
standalone hardware based workstation
which eliminates reliability and training
issues associated with PC based systems.
28
Easy IP set-up through the spot

Customisation
The ability to customise solutions is a key element of the NetVu
philosophy. Dedicated Micros offers a range of developers tools,
including a comprehensive JAVA-based SDK and the PowerScript
application. Since the technology is based on standard client/server
protocols, you are able to call upon a wealth of commerciallyavailable development talent without having to invest in costly
training programmes for proprietary packages.
Dedicated Micros PowerScript
application extends the functionality of
NetVu Connected DVR’s allowing them
to integrate into other systems. The
PowerScript feature uses the C
programming language to allow installers
and system integrators to implement and
develop server side scripts to enable
customer specific applications to be
created.
Utilising PowerScript, a NetVu
Connected DVR can integrate into a
BMS (Building Management System) or
other Security Solution (such as Access
Control) to enable central control,
monitoring and notification on alarm of a
multitude of functions - for example
humidity or temperature levels in Server
rooms or Storage / Freezer rooms can
be monitored via the DVR in conjunction
with associated video footage from the
location.
Seeing the world through your eyes.
35
SOFTWARE
DEVELOPMENT KIT
The NetVu Connected SDK
provides integration opportunities
by offering DM authorised
integrators the necessary tools and
flexibility to design custom Java
based applications. Video can for
example, be integrated into other
building management systems
providing the end user with a
powerful management interface; or
generate video recordings that are
linked to events, such as machine
failure or process alarms –
particularly useful on large and
multi-campus manufacturing sites.

ADVANCED POS INTERFACE
MODULE
Ideal for the retail environment, adding
an Advanced POS Interface Module to an
existing DM DVR, such as a DS2 or
DV-IP Server, is a simple yet powerful
way of enhancing your day to day
combat against business crime. A single
Advanced POS Interface Module can
handle up to 8 POS locations and
provide all the necessary data from the
cash register to allow the user to
associate POS text and data with video
images and alarms.
Embedded intelligence allows all text to
be validated against pre-defined rules.
This allows, for example, Low Value High Tender and Out Of Hours
Transactions to be monitored and easily
indexed on the DVR.
NETVU OBSERVER PDA
EDITION
NetVu ObserVer PDA Edition is able to
connect to, and view, any available
cameras from any location with wireless
coverage. This will allow a range of
personnel including security guards,
caretakers and building management to
safely monitor the premises and assess
potentially hazardous situations before
deciding on the appropriate course of
action.
A free text search facility allows you to
quickly track down and act upon those
unexpected items that are identified.
Aside from deterring theft and fraud, the
Interface Module is a great way of
quickly settling cash back complaints and
missing items without suffering additional
losses to the benefit of the customer.
The Advanced POS Interface Module will
provide small, medium and large retail
organisations with the time saving and
powerful capability of linking valuable
POS evidence directly to your recorded
CCTV footage.
Dedicated Micros’ ATM Interface
Module has been designed to offer
integration between Automatic Teller
Machines (ATM’s) and the DM range of
DVR’s, including the DV-IP Server and
DV-IP ATM. Each module allows
transaction data from up to 8 individual
ATM’s to be received, decoded and
stored alongside the relevant images on
the DVR or Server.
CMT (Centralized Management Tool)

tools to the security manager. It
eliminates the need to spend hours or
days configuring each individual DVR by
allowing the manager to change viewing
permissions, configuration settings and
firmware versions for entire groups of
DVRs and users simultaneously, from a
single user interface.

IP Domes
NETVU CONNECTED
SURVEILLANCE DOMES
Based on the 2040/2060 Dome housings, Dedicated Micros IP Domes
provides the user with remotely configurable dome cameras,
operating over IP networks.
CONVENTIONAL 2040 / 2060
CAMERAS ON AN IP
NETWORK
Upgrade existing analogue DM
domes to IP with no loss in features.
Deep integration with other NetVu
Connected products allows users to
realise the true benefits of
interoperability and build scalable
CCTV Solutions with ease.
Dome control from anywhere in the
world.
A range of mounting options allows
flexible positioning of the dome
during installation.
Existing Dennard 2040 or 2060 domes
can be upgraded to operate over an IP
network by fitting a new IP Dome Power
Supply Unit (PSU) with an integrated DM
DV-IP Encoder. This versatility allows a
CCTV solution to expand and adapt
organically without the cost and trouble
of completely replacing and redesigning
the installation.
STANDARD DOME FEATURES
IP CCTV BUILDING BLOCK
The IP Dome contains all the features
found in the 2040 and 2060 domes
including; an impact resistant
hemisphere, up to 36x optical zoom
(2060 only, 18x on 2040), up to 12x
digital zoom, privacy zones, a wide range
of mounting options & accessories and an
innovative quick release mechanism for
ease of installation and maintenance.
The IP Domes are part of a growing
range of IP CCTV Building Blocks
introduced by DM. Providing the
capability to configure and stream video
direct to the DVR or Server over the
network, the IP Dome makes the
addition of new remote cameras simple
and cost effective. This is achieved by
taking advantage of any existing IP
infrastructure rather than installing
dedicated cabling.
PROFILES
The IP Dome contains MultiMode
profiles. MultiMode Recording removes
the need for 'event only' or low record
rates and provides 'always on’ recording
without increasing storage requirements.
Unique in the industry, MultiMode
Recording increases the functionality and
flexibility of the DVR. Whilst high
resolution JPEG images can be used to
capture detail images from events – an
essential requirement in the use of
CCTV recordings for evidential purposes
- continuous MPEG-4 motion video
provides smooth background recordings
that require less storage capacity than
JPEG.
