Sony Launches Next Generation Blu-ray Disc Player in Hong Kong
The Blu-ray disc player BDP-S1E displays impressive full HD 1080 videos with
uncompressed sound source for realistic audio quality
Hong Kong, June 4, 2007 – Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited today
announced the arrival of Sony’s first Blu-ray disc player to Hong Kong, the BDP-S1E,
bringing to customers the ultimate high definition home entertainment experience.
“The Blu-ray disc player represents one of Sony’s most powerful and intelligent
consumer equipment devices ever developed, setting new standards in high definition
audiovisual playback of movies,” said Mr. Koichi Tsunematsu, Division Managing
Director, Hong Kong Marketing Company, Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited.
“The superbly styled Blu-ray disc player integrates seamlessly with Sony’s BRAVIA
LCD TV to produce one of the most stunning and engaging home theatre experiences
on the market today,” Mr Tsunematsu said.
Astonishing Video Quality
To the delight of film lovers, Sony’s Blu-ray disc player BDP-S1E portrays
high-definition movies with full 1920 x 1080p high definition video for Blu-ray disc
titles. And, with its 1080p video upscaling facility, the BDP-S1E can take movies out
of the DVD-Video domain and represent them in a format that is closer to HD
resolution. Featuring the 24p True Cinema technology, the BDP-S1E utilizes the
24p direct output function to produce film-like quality images with its capability of an
output signal at 24 frames per second.
The Blu-ray disc player is capable of playing video encoded in xvYCC technology,
also known as x.v.Colour by Sony, which can display a wider range of colours to
create a more natural feel to the images. This allows users to enjoy picture quality in a
colour range standard approximately twice that of conventional standards (sRGB).
Breathtaking Audio Quality
The Blu-ray disc player complements the high definition picture quality with
excellent audio performance by offering up to 7.1 channel of uncompressed linear
PCM digital audio output when connected to a receiver via HDMI. It is compatible
with 5.1 channel decoding capability and it can also even down mix to 2 channel
1
output. It also supports a range of decoding formats including the industry’s highest
standard 7.1ch Dolby Digital True HD, 7.1ch Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Digital,
DTS.
Versatile and Intuitive Design
To overcome the inconvenience of navigating other home entertainment devices such
as BRAVIA LCD televisions, HiFi systems and receivers with multiple hardware
controls, Sony has developed the one-touch BRAVIA Theatre Sync function so users
can enjoy instant entertainment with just one control.
The Blu-ray disc player can play back in various popular formats including BD-ROM,
AVCHD DVD, DVD, CD, MP3 audio files, JPEG and DVD recordable media. It
offers up to two hours of HD video on a 25GB single layer disc while a dual layer
disc holds an incredible 50GB of storage, which is equal to nine hours of HD viewing
or 23 hours of standard video.
Supported by the latest AVCHD Handycam® camcorders HDR-UX7, HDR-UX5,
HDR-HC7 and HDR-HC5, users can record memorable moments by the camcorders
and play back their high definition videos on Sony’s Blu-ray disc player.
Besides being equipped with an optical digital audio, the Blu-ray disc player features
a separate audio circuit board and finely tuned audio components in a rigid beam
chassis with drive brackets and off-centre insulator feet to maintain stability and
reduce vibration. This extraordinary attention to design detail is reflected by the
choice of genuine materials like the specially coated glass front and the elegant
aluminium body. The glass front shimmers in deep blue, which disappears once the
light in the home theatre is turned down, leaving the audience’s attention to the
pictures.
The launch of the Blu-ray disc player BDP-S1E in Hong Kong adds to Sony’s strong
line of full high-definition products including the BRAVIA LCD televisions, home
projectors, PlayStation® 3 game console, Handycam® camcorders, VAIO personal
computers, Blu-ray disc drive burner and Cyber-shot digital cameras.
