4.1 WATER QUALITY
In order to prevent limescale from damaging and clogging the interior of your machine, it is important to fill the water
reservoir with soft water.
You can test the hardness of your water using simple test strips. The target water hardness for espress machines is less
than 50 parts per million (ppm) or 3 grains per gallon (gpg). If your results are high you can high-quality carbon filter or
charcoal filtration system to soften the water.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Do not use distilled or deionized (reverse osmosis) filtered water in any espresso machine. This type of water cannot be
detected by the components and causes serious malfunction of the equipment.
If using bottled water in your machine, check that the mineral content is less than 50ppm and ensure that the label doesn't
say the water is distilled or deionized.
4.2 WATER SOFTENER
A softener is included with the machine.
•
Remove the softener from the protective packaging.
•
Rinse the softener under cold water.
•
Place the softener on the bottom of the reservoir and fill with water.
Please check softener packaging for further instructions including expected life of the softener.

The control light for the set temperature value will start to flash to indicate that the coffee delivery group
is heating up and the automatic boiler refill will be activated until the water level set by the manufacturer
has been reached.
Once the filling stage is complete, the boiler control light (D) will begin to flash, indicating that the
boiler is heating up. The first time that the machine is switched on, this will not be enabled until the
group reaches the set temperature.
Attach the orta ilter (4) to the group ea .
Wait until the appliance reaches the set temperature, making sure that the control lights on the control panel
(I) switch on progressively as the temperature increases. This starts as soon as the temperature reaches the
minimum setting, with the switching ON of the control light 85° C, and it will proceed until the appliance
operating temperature has been reached (the control light goes from flashing to lit).
When the group reaches the set temperature, the boiler heating function is enabled. Once it reaches the set
temperature, the control light will stay lit.

F turns on. To deactivate it, follow the same procedure again, until the light F turns off.
WARNING!
This mode can be activated on appliances with the following voltages: 230 V 115 V with 20 A plug

S1 MINI VIVALDI
7. OPERATING TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT
The operating temperature of the machine can be modified to improve the flavor profile of the coffee according to
individual tastes.
The recommended brewing temperature range for espresso coffee is 92 to 96 degrees celcius.
•
While the appliance is operating, press and hold down the button ON//OFF (E) for about 3 seconds.
The power control light (D) and the control light for the set temperature will flash. For example, if the
set temperature is 95°C, the control light (15) will flash.
•
To set the operating temperature in 5-degree increments, proceed as follows:

increased by 5°C (and the relevant control light will start to flash).
When the maximum temperature of 120°C is reached (control light 20), the selection function will return to the
minimum temperature of 85°C (control light 14) (cyclical operation).
•
Once the required temperature has been selected, press the button ON/ OFF (E) to confirm the setting,
and the appliance will return to normal operation.
16
S1 MINI VIVALDI
To adjust the operating temperature by single degree increments, proceed as follows:
•
Switch off the appliance by pressing the button ON/OFF (E); the red control light (D) will go from lit to
flashing (machine on stand-by).
•
Press and hold down the two-cup button (L) for about 3 seconds; the control lights 100°C and 105°C will
switch on to indicate that the settings phase is in progress for intervals of 1°C.
Each time that the boiler button (G) is pressed, the control lights 18, 19 and 20 will switch ON in succession
and each control light indicates an increase of one degree centigrade compared to the set temperature.
Each time that the one-cup button (A) is pressed, the control lights 15, 14 and 13 will switch on and each of
these control lights indicates a decrease of one degree centigrade compared to the set temperature.
For example, if the set operating temperature is 95°C and the control lights 18 and 19 switch on, the set
temperature will become 95 + 2 = 97°C.
•
Once the required temperature has been selected, press the two-cup button (L) to confirm the setting.
Hold the ON/OFF button (E) for 3 seconds to return machine to operating mode.

the one coffee (A) or two coffee (L) button.
If this alarm is visualized call the authorized assistance centre.
DAMAGED TEMPERATURE PROBE OF THE GROUP
This alarm is a blocking one, and is visualized when the temperature probe of the group is in short circuit
(temperature above 145°C) or is interrupted (temperature inferior to 60°C). The lights 120turn on. If
this alarm is visualized call the authorized assistance centre.
DAMAGED TEMPERATURE PROBE OF THE BOILER
(only with the boiler turned on)
This is not a blocking alarm and is visualized when the temperature probe of the boiler is in short circuit
