Wound to order with self-fluxing wire on high permeability, highest saturation ferrite cores, handling up to twice as much power for the
same distortion as some other cheaper cores. Falcon supplies many leading loudspeaker manufacturers with components, both in the
United Kingdom and abroad and this is your guarantee of high quality. The inductors can be tinned by heating the wire to 350+°C with a
soldering iron with a blob of solder on the tip. As there are fumes given off that could possibly contain traces of T.D.I., this should be done
in a well ventilated area. Anyone contemplating tinning large quantities should contact Falcon for further details.
CAPACITORS
Non-polar electrolytic (reversible). These capacitors are used by the majority of loudspeaker manufacturers and have therefore had
extensive field trials.
Standard types suitable for systems rated up to approx. 75 watts. Low Loss 100 plus watts or where lower loss factor is needed. Minimum
life expectancy; 10+ years.

Polypropylene SOLEN (SCR) The ultimate? in P.P. capacitors with a very low loss factor and high working voltage suitable for all
types of system, 630v for Valve Amps. Specially designed by SOLEN and manufactured by SCR to get the best sound quality. They
are big and may cause problems fitting in small networks/systems. Use P/E or Polycarbonate if size is a problem.
CROSSOVERS & KITS
These contain components which are specially wound or selected for the specific designs. All capacitors are batch selected on a Brüel &
Kjær Deviation Bridge. The values marked on the capacitors are nominal only, therefore a value of 5.5mfd could be a 5mfd +5% to +15%
or a 6mfd, -5% to -10%. The substitution of alternative values or components is not therefore to be recommended. For your protection all
Falcon Networks and Kits have an identifying sticker.
GRILLE FABRICS
All the 'D' prefix fabrics were manufactured by Danish Silks. This can be either glued or stapled to the rear of the baffle or onto a grille
frame. A tight fit can be obtained by gentle heating with a hair dryer or radiant fire (NOT E1) with GREAT Caution!
Nominal widths: E1 - 160cm.
D3 & D4 - 140cm or 150cm.
D6 - 110cm.
D10 - 150cm.
DAMPING/GRILLE FOAM
The foam we supply is the same type used by the leading Speaker Manufacturers and not a cheap packing foam.

ACOUSTIC WADDING
Nominal 1" thick. by 24" wide. Fitting can be accomplished by stapling or gluing. The enclosures should be lined so that one quarter of
the distance between two opposite faces is filled with wadding i.e. one eighth on each face (side, top and bottom) - one quarter on the back
panel. Thick layers can be easily fabricated by making a roll or by layering.
DUE TO THE LATEST FIRE FUME SCARES, THE MANUFACTURER HAS DISCONTINUED BAF. AN ACOUSTIC
EQUIVALENT MATERIAL - LUXBOND - IS FIRE RETARDANT and complies with the relevant requirements of the "Furniture and
Furnishings (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988".
LONG FIBRE WOOL
This is the material specified by Dr. A. R. Bailey for use in his transmission line loudspeakers and is made in a specific way. The wool
should be well teased out before use. Quantity necessary for triangular transmission line is ½lb per cu.ft. (Wireless World - May 1972).
Quantity for normal transmission lines 8-12oz. per cu.ft. of line and 12oz. per cu.ft. for total enclosures. The wool can be suspended on
Netlon or string interlacing. We would suggest using an aerosol moth spray to prevent any long term problems.
DEDSHETE
Dedshete should be stuck with a water based contact adhesive, but if this is not available use Evo-Stik Contact or Time Bond adhesive.
Servisol Adhesive 120 (Spray-can) by Ambersil Ltd Bridgwater, Somerset. Tel. 01278 424200; Fax. 4256444, also works well, also sticks
Foam. Allow the fumes to fully disperse before fitting the units. Do not use PVA etc. as this goes brittle.
Dedshete works by:1) Adding mass to panel walls.
2) High hysteresis material dissipates energy when flexing, hence damping the panel break-up.
3) The sound transmission through the Dedshete (6mm) is about 12dB less than through wood, reducing the rear (incorrect) sound from
the cabinet interior.
Volumes:- 1 x 2mm Dedshete pad = 0.4014 litre; 1 x 6mm Dedshete pad = 0.3455 litre.

TECHNICAL ENQUIRIES
Whilst we are willing to answer technical enquiries regarding networks etc., for various combinations of units, we must ask for a stamped
addressed envelope and there may be some delay in replying due to the pressure of work involved. Please quote the Loudspeaker make,
type and impedance and cabinet size, a 'Crossover for two 8ohm speakers at 3kHz' is useless! With regard to commercial systems contact
your Dealer/Manufacturer/Importer first.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GENERAL PURPOSE CROSSOVER NETWORK. ALL NETWORKS HAVE TO BE
DESIGNED FOR SPECIFIC UNITS & CABS.
SYSTEM POWER HANDLING
The systems are rated with respect to an amplifier's continuous rating on music with a peak/r.m.s ratio of 3:1 minimum. So for a 100 watt
amplifier the maximum heating effect should be 30 watts, but if it is run into soft clipping, which is barely audible, the heating effect can
be up to 100 watts. With hard clipping, the sound will get 'hard' with audible distortion. Under these conditions the signal will be almost
squared off, and the heating effect can be up to 200 watts. Hence a system which is designated 100 watts and designed for 30 watts heating
can be subjected to 200 watts, 6x the designed rating. MORAL Don't clip your amplifier. Small amplifiers can damage your speakers
more easily than a large one!

We have designed and produced a range of D.I.Y Electronic Filters using pre-assembled and tested boards. The necessary
transformers and power supply modules are also available. The basic circuit is the compound emitter follower, with current bias for
the low-pass and voltage bias for the high-pass sections. This configuration gives high input impedance, low output impedance and
low distortion, with no slew rate or noise problems associated with I.C's. It also allows a single rail supply to be used. The input is
buffered and the MF & HF outputs are adjustable via preset output pots. Input/output has a nominal loss of less than 1dB.
Maximum output is greater than 4 volts rms, well in excess of power amplifier input requirements. Power requirement:- 18-24Vdc
@ 30mA.
