Frequently asked questions

To begin recording, press the Record button. Choose a recording format (WAC, WAV, or WAV/ZC) in the settings menu. The EM3+ will start recording and display the elapsed time. You can stop recording by pressing the Stop button.

RTE (Real Time Expansion) allows you to hear all frequencies of bat echolocations. Het (Heterodyne) mode lets you tune to a specific frequency range. FD (Frequency Division) mode is used for adjusting the zero cross threshold for recording.

The triggering feature automatically starts recording when it detects bat echolocations above a certain frequency and amplitude threshold. You can adjust the threshold and trigger window in the settings menu. This helps reduce file size by recording only when there is bat activity.

Press a Letter button (A, B, C, or D) to tag a recording. Hold down a Letter button to extend the trigger window and record voice notes.

Time expansion playback allows you to play back recorded echolocations at a slower speed, making them audible. You can adjust the playback speed with the Fraction buttons.
