Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch ICS R6.0 is the support release of UC R5.1.
Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch UC R5.1 is pre-phased out since May 2010. Support
still available but no more bug fixing.
OmniTouch UC R4.1 is phased out since end March 2009 (no more support).

1 Welcome
Welcome to Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch 8400 ICS Release 6.1
OmniTouch 8400 Instant Communications Suite is a software suite using the latest technologies
and providing a full set of IP-based unified communication applications. These
applications allow subscribers to tailor, control and manage calls,
messages, directories, collaboration tools and information from any
location, using any device and any interface, in ways never
before thought of.
OmniTouch 8400 Instant Communications Suite offers the
worldwide integrated multi-media, multi-session, multiterminal unified communications application, called
OmniTouch 8600 My Instant Communicator, enabling the
end-user to experience smoothly new facilities.

Instant Communications Suite can be accessed from various types of
terminal and interface, which means you can use your communication tools
wherever you are (at the office, away on business, in a meeting, at home, etc.)

Using Unified Messaging services, all your e-mail, voice and fax messages are brought together in one
Inbox using you own messaging client (e.g. Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes). Furthermore, you can
consult your messages from a web interface or a telephone set.
Telephony services are real-time telecommunications
management tools which can be accessed either from your office
or when you are away on business. When you are away,
Telephony services give you access to audio functions from any
telephone (your mobile or home phone for example) and enable
you to use voice over IP with your multimedia PC.
One Number services allow you to route your incoming calls
according to rules which you define.
Using these routing functions, One Number services accompany the user when away on business and
filters calls according to the caller, time and geographical origin of the call.
Fax services leverage IP telephony investments, and really take advantage of the IP technology
which has now attained massive acceptance from organizations of all sizes and sectors with its promise of
operational efficiency.
Conferencing & Collaboration services: from simple dialin audio conferencing to multimedia, multiparty
collaboration with instant messaging, application sharing,
presentation sharing, and video conferencing.

Mobility services represent the
extension of unified
communications and collaboration
to mobile user’s devices.
Mobilizing unified
communications matches mobile
users need to stay connected wherever they are.
All above services are powered by transversal services, such as unified
directory access, Personal Information Management, events notification,
rich presence (telephony and instant messaging), security, redundancy
and web services.

1.5 Training and certification
Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch Unified Communication is a part of the Accredited Premium Business
Partners portfolio. In order to achieve accreditation on Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch Unified
Communication, Business Partners must complete:
• Lab equipment: lab equipment can be bought according to general lab equipment conditions.
• Post-sales staffing and certification: This certification can be achieved through the training
courses described on the BPWS, section Training and Certification.
For OmniTouch 8400 ICS 6.1, OmniTouch 8400 ICS R6.0 certifications are valid. No new certification
required for OmniTouch 8400 ICS 6.1.
Training course has been updated with new features OmniTouch 8400 ICS 6.1 and available since
February 2010.

3.1 Hardware and software requirements
3.1.1 General

3.1.2 Recommended versions for OmniPCX Enterprise
Specific interoperability tests have been performed between OmniTouch 8400 ICS 6.x and releases,
8.0.1, 9.0 and 9.1.
Recommended versions that must be used are as follows:

R8.0.1 : > G1.503.35
•
R9.0 : > H1.301.30 (My IC – SIP requirements)
•
R9.1 : > I1.605.14.e
It is of course highly recommended to use the latest patch in a given OXE release.
3.1.3 Recommended versions for A4635
A4635 R5.4.0 is not supported. R5.4.2 is the minimum release that must be used.

3.1.4 Hard disk storage (Unified Messaging)
When using Messaging Services (Unified Messaging), all e-mails (text or voice) are stored on the
hard disk of the e-mail server hosting the mailboxes. The capacity of this hard disk must be adapted
according to the capacity requested per Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch Unified Communication user.
Voice messages (WAV files) are recorded in G.711 (64 Kbits/s). The approximate rule for storing
such messages, for a given user, is as follows:
Recording duration in seconds (average) * (65536/8)
Examples:
• If we consider a recording duration of 10 minutes, the hard disk space that will be used
will be of (10 * 60) * (65536/8) = 4.7 MB.
• If we consider now a recording duration of 60 minutes, the hard disk space that will be
used will be of 28 MB.
3.1.5 LAN bandwidth
Depositing/listening to a voice message by phone uses approximately 100 Kbits/s per VxML voice
port (in G711).
Depositing/listening to a voice message from the Web, using a Multimedia PC activates a WAV file
transfer. The size of this file depends on the length of the voice message; for a 30 seconds message,
this size is approximately of 250 KB.
Note: the traffic generated by client applications (e.g. 4980 Softphone, Outlook/Lotus Notes add-ins)
is negligible.
3.1.6 Operating System supported by 8400 ICS client
Feature list available on BPWS lists all Operating System supported by each ICS client.

3.2 Software locks OmniPCX side
For users distributed in a PBX network, following software locks are necessary OmniPCX side:
Values of 116, 117, 119, 129, 309 and 166 locks should be equal to “e-CS Engine” (13) with a
maximum value of 5000.
Values of “CSTA_Bypass” (158) should be equal to 2 X “e-CS Engine” with a maximum value of
6000.

The number of “XML PBX Management service” licenses has to be superior or equal to the total sum
of the “eCS-engine” locks in the installation.
By-pass of 4635 and 4645 software locks: software locks 314 (4635) and 194 (4645) are
by-passed on OmniPCX side if Messaging services licenses were bought for the Alcatel-Lucent
OmniTouch 8400 ICS.

3.3.1 General information
This version is a full delivery. Classical procedure to install from scratch is then used, from the
delivered DVD.
Linux installation
Advise: use the last boot CD version (build 23) with Red Hat Enterprise 5 Update 4.
The postInstall.sh script
is no more used in ICS 6.x.
OTS multi PABX node
tsad.conf file is no more used. Now it is lively managed.
DNS Server:
A reverse Zone must be declared on the DNS Server with an entry corresponding to the ICS Server.

Classical way of upgrade:

Back up your system with “<Install path>/Backup/database-save.sh”.
•
Insert the ICS new release DVD-ROM R6.1.000.101.b
•
Mount it with “mount /media/cdrom”
•
Run “/media/cdrom/setup.bin”
•
Accept the license terms
•
Choose the “Update” mode.
•
Eject your DVD with “eject”
•
Restart your system at the end of the setup program.
•
Don’t forget Microsoft .NET2 SP2 on the client computer.

Before upgrading, you have to pay attention to following remarks:

If SSL has been disabled
By default the upgrade procedure restores SSL access except for the service settings in
WebAdmin. The disable_ssl.sh script must be applied after the last server restart.
•
If OXEs are handled by IP addresses and not by FQDN in previous release.
If the OXE’s are not managed in the DNS, before restoration of database, you have to modify on
your ICS servers the /etc/hosts file with:
@IP + names + FQDN of all your OXEs
3.3.4.2 Procedure example for a single server
Procedure to be used for a R5.1.000.5xx -> R6.1.000.101.b migration:
• Stop otuc service, for this you must be root: service otucd stop
• Install R6.x backup/restore application from the R6 DVD-ROM on the R5.1 servers

• Save the backup archives on another server (storage server)

• To prevent any failure on database restore, save the blank database created by default:

Rename your backed up file or save it in a safe location.
• Copy the backup archive from the storage server to the newly installed server
• stop the services: service icsd stop
• Restore the backup archive: database_restore.sh 2009-11-09
• Install the new 6.0 license file on opt/Alcatel-Lucent/Flexlm/alcotuc.lic
• Install your own SSL certificate file with the installCertificates.sh script provided with the R6
software: Servers/Complements/Scripts/Linux/installCertificates.sh
• Start the icsd services access Web Based Management: WebAdmin

4.1 Applications Major Limitations
1) Backup
The old Backup files are not compatible with ICS 6.1.000.101.b
It’s mandatory to use the backup tool delivered with this version on
DVD\Servers\Serviceability\Backup_Application
2) Authentication
NTLM version 2 is not supported.
3) DNS name(s) must be used when installing Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch 84xx server(s). In
this case Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch 84xx server(s) IP addresses and FQDN can be
changed if necessary.
4) Citrix
Voice-Over-IP whatever devices are not supported on Citrix.
5) Abbreviated .Numbers by Range

If ‘Alternative greetings’ are enabled for non-translated language, English sentences will be
read by TTS language set per user. Example, if a user used Spanish language, menu for

12) Remarks on /var/vms partition
/var/vms/ partition is DEDICATED to store 8400 ICS Local Storage/8440 MS voice
messages and doesn’t have to be used for any other purposes as store backup, copy ISO
file…
We remind you that whole /var/vms partition is backed up by ICS tool. If this partition is used
for other purposes, backup file may fully fill up /root partition and block whole system.
(/opt/Alcatel-Lucent/Backup/save/ directory).
