PART 1 – GENERAL

WORK INCLUDED
A.
Provide all labor, materials, equipment and services required for the installation of a complete
and functioning Elementary School Auditorium sound system.
B.
Provide all required cable adapters and terminations, patch cables, grounding, trouble shooting,
manufacturer on-site technical support.
1.2
SEQUENCE OF OPERATION
A.
Provide complete programming of the daily use mixer behind the locked door of the equipment
cabinet for the use to select the following functional presets:

The new audio system for the auditorium space shall accept audio input signals from a
variety of sources. A digital signal processor and program selector shall for the central
core of the new audio system. Configure the DSP and Mixer settings to operate based on
user input to the program selector on the following settings:
a.
Presentation Mode: Wired and wireless microphone system for stage XLR
connectivity for performance and simple presentation modes.
b.
Board of Education Mode: A dedicated conferencing microphone system shall be
installed on the stage to be used by the board of education. The tabletop
conferencing microphones shall be plugged into the stage box centered between
the tables on the stage. The stage box will be connected by a snake cable back to
the equipment cabinet on the stage. Configure the confrenecing controller to
operate when the latching microphone button is pushed and allow for simultaneous
mixing of multiple speakers.
c.
Performance Mode: 16-input audio mixing console will only be used in
performance mode. The new amplifiers and speakers shall be connected to the new
audio mixing console. Provide separate homerun wiring back to the amplifiers as
required to match the equipment arrangements.
Wireless capabilities shall include both input (a new Wireless Microphone system) and
output (FM Hearing Assistance System).

SUBMITTALS
A.
Provide catalog cut sheets on all equipment, devices, hardware, etc.
B.
Detailed statement of scope indicating contractor, sub-contractor and equipment supplier
responsibility. Include which equipment will be provided by each entity.
C.
System installers manufacturers certification.
D.
Submit proposed rigging design for the hanging speaker array to prior to rough-in. Include all
connecting hardware, cabling, and truss and structural attachment hardware cut sheets with live
load ratings.
E.
Include long throw lens project lens and screen size and throw calculations for large and small
projector screens.
F.
Provide shop drawings (minimum 11x17 size) each drawing shall include the drawing number,
drawing name, date, Equipment Supplier or manufacturer name. The drawing set shall include
as a minimum:

system.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
A.
Equipment furnished under this specification shall be the standard product of one manufacturer
with the exception of speakers and surge protection which may be the product of a different
manufacturer. All components shall be fully tested and documented to upgrade as a complete
system.
B.
All equipment furnished under this specification must be installed by, or under the supervision
of manufacturer certified personnel.
C.
The system supplier shall have a service department within a 60 mile radius and respond to
system problems within a 24 hour period. Suppliers shall have been in this business for a
minimum of 10 years and must guarantee that spare parts shall be carried in stock for a period
of 10 years.

All equipment necessary for proper operation of the system though not specifically specified in
this section shall be deemed part of the specification.
E.
All required maintenance or trouble calls for a period of 12 months from the date of system
acceptance shall be provided at no charge to the Owner, unless damage is caused by misuse or
abuse.

All equipment shall comply with applicable FCC regulations and be UL listed.
G.
The Contractor must have completed three similar installations that are currently working
satisfactorily.

WIRELESS MICROPHONE SYSTEM
A.
The wireless microphone system shall include all components for a functional system. The
system shall allow the instructor or presenter to wear a miniature lavalier style microphone or
headset microphone that transmits the speech to a body pack then via. RF to a receiver in the
equipment cabinet. The system shall also include wireless handheld microphones. The RF
receiver shall connect to the mixer with a ¼” Phono to 3-pin XLR line matching transformer.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1
GENERAL
A.
The manufacturer shall supply all information for the system wiring.
B.
The sound system drawings are schematic. The system manufacturer shall incorporate their
wiring requirements on the system drawings. The contractor shall be responsible, in
conjunction with the system manufacturer for complete wiring requirements and conduit sizes.
C.
Provide all required rigging for speaker arrays. Install the multiple curvilinear array
loudspeakers in a flown configuration. In flown configurations, the first loudspeaker in the
array can be connected to the grid at 0, -5, or -10 degrees with respect to the grid. The uptilt
and downtilt can be adjusted using chain motors or different lengths of steel. Provide with
necessary amount of Quick-Release pins. Provide with all necessary rigging and cable required
for appropriate installation of multiple speaker arrays. Provide required steel truss mounting
hardware. Rigging and the support of array shall be designed by a certified theatrical rigging
contractor. The final design shall include a 4.0 safety factor.
3.2
INSTALLATION
A.
Install all equipment shown on plan. Verify the exact location of all devices on architectural
ceiling plans and elevations or with existing construction.
B.
Install audio system cabling in one of the following pathways:

Supported with velco strips to “D-rings” where traveling on vertical walls. Provide “Drings” 2-feet on center.
Supported 4-feet on center from 1” wide “J-hooks” in mechanical rooms and basements
or above non air-plenum ceilings.
C.
Where surface raceway is required, paint to match existing walls.
D.
After system has been completely tested, “dress out” the central equipment rack. Neatly bundle
all cable with nylon cable. Provide sufficient loop in the cable bundle to allow moving the
cabinet away from wall for maintenance, repairs and additions.

3.3
SYSTEM TESTING AND ADJUSTMENTS
A.
Provide up to (6) individual presets for the Digital Signal Processor. Coordinate the inputs,
outputs, equalization, delay, and gain settings for each preset with the owner. The DSP settings
shall include selections from a simple stage presenter to a full production mixing setup.
B.
Before final acceptance of the system, the Contractor, in the presence of the Owner’s
representative, shall test each and every component and device in the system. Test shall be
documented with signed copy submitted to the Owner and Architect/Engineer.
C.
Field adjust initial volume levels and delay setting on digital signal processor based on field
conditions and room acoustics. Provide (8) additional hours of on-site adjustments after the
system has been installed an tested.
D.
Upon completion of the system installation, it shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to
perform the necessary adjustments and balancing of all signals and amplifier level controls to
insure proper system operation.
E.
The system shall be physically inspected by the Owner’s representative and the
Architect/Engineer to assure that all equipment is installed in a neat and workmanlike manner as
called for in the plans and specifications.
F.
As a minimum requirement, the internal intercommunication system should be tested to prove
the following:
1.
The complete sound system is free from grounds, opens and shorts
2.
Each device function as specified herein.
3.
Proper adjustment of all speaker taps to provide clearly audible, but unobtrusive paging
in all areas.
G.
Fill out test report at the end of this section.
H.
The Contractor shall be responsible for minor system adjustments such as tap changes, signal
balancing, etc., for a period of one year after system acceptance. Respond to a call from the
Owner within 48 hours. These adjustments shall be performed at no additional cost to the
Owner.
I.
Provide authorized technician to program the existing building PA system to interface the new
take-over relay cable. Provide required terminations on the existing building PA system.
3.4
OWNER TRAINING ON SYSTEMS OPERATION
A.
Upon completion of the work, and prior to acceptance of the same by the Owner, the Contractor
and major equipment manufacturer’s qualified representative shall spend a reasonable amount
of time, instructing them on the operation and service of all the sound system equipment and
controls.

The Contractor shall properly instruct maintenance personnel to perform emergency repairs to
the system such as replacement of defective standard components such as loud speakers, amps,
etc.
C.
Provide (2) separate three-hour training session for building personal managing the auditorium
spaces.

Place sign-in sheet from training in final O&M Manuals.
3.5
INSTRUCTION MANUALS
A.
The Contractor shall provide, in addition to the approved copies of the public
address/intercom/clock system submittals, complete written operating instructions, pertinent
system orientation documents, and system service and parts list and testing documentation.
B.
The Contractor shall provide four complete sets of service manuals and wiring diagrams of the
entire system, including manufacturer’s parts and numbers, schematics, complete with operating
information, including equipment characteristics, operating voltages, etc.
3.6
WARRANTY
A.
Provide one-year warranty on all parts and labor.
B.
The warranty shall take effect after the Owner has accepted the system.
