StreetSync/GpsGate Installation Procedure

This document outlines the steps to sync up StreetSync and GpsGate to allow visual and voice guided
directions to Map Report destinations.
In vehicle setup - Assuming you have downloaded all the required software
1. Start your computer and the vehicles engine both have to be started and running for the sync up
to work, if the power is lost at anytime you will have to re-start the installation process.
Mobile Engine - Verify COM Port and Baud Setting
1. Open Mobile Engine and open Initialize GPS.
2. The Receiver Type and COM Port settings should not be changed from the normal settings.
Make note the COM Port setting it will be needed later during the GpsGate software setup!

After Initial Download and Setup of GpsGate
GpsGate will need to be started each time you use StreetSync/MapPoint for voice guided
directions for routing to Map Report destinations.
You will have to open the GpsGate application by selecting the GpsGate icon at the lower right
hand corner of your toolbar.
Click on “Settings” in the dialog box, this will bring you to the next window which allows you to adjust your
COM port settings.

After selecting the “Settings” tab in the dropdown the following window will open.
Select the (Advanced setup…) tab.
Next check the box next to (Share settings for all user accounts).
Next Step – You will be prompted that you need to restart GpsGate. Hit OK.

Next Step – Go to the GpsGate icon at the bottom right hand corner of your screen click on the icon and
select Exit to ensure that you have completely closed out of GpsGate.
Next Step – Re-open GpsGate by selecting the icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen and select
the settings tab

After selecting the settings tab the window below opens the “Input” tab should be open. In the Input tab select
the “Use multiple inputs (MUX)”.

Next Step – After selecting the Use multiple inputs (MUX) box the following window opens. Now select the
arrow (Pull Down Menu) and view your options in the drop down window scroll down and select the “COM
Port / NMEA Filter” and select the Add button.

After clicking the Add button the “Serial port setting and Baud rate” window opens. Select the same COM port
and Baud rate you have set in Mobile Engine. Then select OK twice to close the windows.

In the Active input area you should now see the COM Port and the Baud rate you selected in the previous
window. If you don’t repeat the previous steps and input the COM Port your using in Mobile Engine along with
the Baud rate.
Also verify that the box is checked next to Use MUX.

Next Step – Select the Output tab then select the arrow and a dropdown list appears select “Virtual COM
Port / NMEA Filter” and select the Add button.
After the Add button is selected the Virtual Serial Port Window appears. Select (2) COM Ports (Except for
the COM Port used for Mobile Engine). You may select all COM Ports listed but this will take sometime to
do. Make sure you select OK each time to add additional COM Ports.
Make note of the Virtual COM Ports you selected, you will need these later.

After selecting OK you should now see the “Virtual COM2 / (All NMEA) NMEA Filter” in the “Active output”.
Repeat this step to have at least two Virtual COM ports, different then the COM port used for Mobile Engine.
After selecting at the minimum, the two Virtual COM ports, the GpsGate icon should be green indicating you
are connected to GPS.
Note: if the GpsGate icon is not green you will have to review the previous steps to verify one was not
missed.

Next Step – Go back to Mobile Engine and select the GPS menu and select Initialize GPS.

After you select initialize GPS the following window appears. Select the number of the first Virtual COM
Port you selected when you added the Virtual COM ports in the previous step. Then select Connect and
you should now be receiving a GPS connection.
If you do not receive a GPS connection review the previous steps verifying none were missed.

Creating Route to MR Destinations
StreetSync
Once you have imported your Map Reports to StreetSync you can follow the route via the routing
instructions or export the StreetSync file to MapPoint to get voice guide directions to your
destinations.

Next Steps
For voice guided directions the following steps must be taken to export the StreetSync file to
MapPoint .

At the top of the tool bar select tools and (Export MapPoint Files…)
The next screen that appears is – (Export MapPoint Route Files)
Select the (Select All) button and the select the OK button

The next screen that appears is – (MapPoint Route Files)
Click on the (Imported MRs) folder and this will bring you to the next screen

Click on the folder and MapPoint opens and your StreetSync route appears

In MapPoint you are now able to view the route imported from StreetSync.

Start GPS MapPoint
The next steps are needed to turn on the voice guided direction.

At the top of the tool bar select the Navigation icon circled in red.
After selecting the Navigation Icon the screen below appears then select the “Configure GPS…” button.
The next box appears is “GPS Receiver Settings” select one the second virtual COM Ports you created in
GpsGate.
If COM Ports are not visible you will have to select scan to find the needed COM Port.

After you have configured the GPS Receiver Settings the next step is to select the box next to “Start GPS
tracking” and “Provide Driving Guidance”. To keep your position in the center of the map, select the “Keep
position centered” radio button.
Voice Guided Directions

To have voice guided directions you must select the “Turn Voice On (F7)” button.
You have now completed all the steps necessary to begin using StreetSyncs routing tool.
If for some reason you do not have voice guide directions go through the steps again on page 20 and 21.
