GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The complete luminaire designated _______ (identify) shall be a GE FILTR•GARD
®
luminaire, ordering number _______ (specify h2 or h2U, plus ordering number logic from catalog) UL844
Listed for use in Class I, Division 2, Groups A, b, C and D; Class
II, Division 1, Groups E, F and G; Class II, Division 2, Group G and
Class III, Divisions 1 and 2 locations; UL1598 Listed for General
Non-hazardous, SUITAbLE FOR wET LOCATIONS and for metal halide lamps in polymeric lamp containment barriers; and
UL1598 Listed Outdoor Salt water Marine (formerly UL595)(optional), or approved equal, for operation of one _______ (specify
[50, 70, 100, 150 (55V), 250 or 400] watt high pressure sodium
[hPS] or [100, 175, 250 or 400] metal halide or mercury) watt lamp from a nominal _______ (specify 120, 208, 240, 277 or
400) volt, 60 hertz power source and shall be capable of starting and operating the specified lamp within the limits specified by the lamp manufacturer. The luminaire shall contain a completely prewired integral ballast and optical assembly and be suitable for continuous service, either indoors or outdoors, in an ambient temperature of 40 ° C. (Consult factory for 55 ° C, 65 ° C or 90
°
C.) The luminaire shall have a NEMA lamp identification decal. Labeling shall be in accordance with UL and NEMA Listings. Standard construction is IP65 handle the higher pulse ratings of newer hID systems. The luminaire shall contain an integral ballast* that shall be prewired to the lamp socket and terminal board (and ignitor for high pressure sodium fixtures). The ballast shall be in full compliance with lamp-ballast specifications available to the fixture manufacturer from the lamp manufacturers at the time of fixture manufacture.
The ballast shall reliably start and operate the lamp in ambient temperatures down to -20 °
F for mercury and metal halide or
-40 ° F for hPS.
The luminaire and ballast shall be from the same manufacturer.
MEChANICAL CONSTRUCTION
For ease of installation and to facilitate maintenance and replacement, the luminaire shall be supplied as components — ballast, mounting, optical, accessories.
The luminaire shall have provisions for field-mounted safety chains.
The luminaire shall have both NEMA decal (clearly visible without hands-on inspection) and nameplate including pertinent luminaire rating data and UL Listing. The luminaire shall have stainless steel external hardware and be relampable without tools.
The ballast housing, wiring compartment and ballast cover
(with mounting components) shall be of low-copper aluminum alloys and have an electrocoat gray paint finish. There will be a ground wire connection between ballast housing and wiring compartment in cover. There will be an integral disconnect between wiring compartment and ballast housing to allow rapid change-out without rewiring. There shall be a continuous silicone rubber gasket between the hinged ballast cover and ballast housing/wiring compartment to ensure seal.
The luminaire shall be _______ (specify pendant, flexible pendant, wall, ceiling, angle or straight stanchion or low profile) mounted.

bALLAST OPERATION
The optical assembly shall contain a mogul base socket with superior lamp gripping. The socket shall have the ability to

guard and with or without dome, deep dome or angled dome reflector; an enclosed reflector with ALGLAS ® finish with tempered door glass and with or without stainless steel guard; an eight- or twelve-inch [203 or 305 mm] prismatic glass refractor, Type II or Type V with or without stainless steel guard; a universal glass refractor with or without guard; or a twelve-inch [305 mm] acrylic or polyester resin refractor, Type II or Type V, with or without stainless steel guard).
There shall be two activated-charcoal filters (except when
UL595 Listed) to remove solid and gaseous airborne contaminants before they enter the optical assembly, by providing the easiest path for air to enter and exit.
The computer-designed Maxi-Lux guard shall be of inverted design for improved photometric performance.
External reflectors shall be aluminum with a chemically bonded lightweight non-breakable ALGLAS finish on inside and outside surfaces for corrosion resistance.
