Anemometers measure air velocity.
There are two basic types for different applications:
Thermoelectric ("Hot Wire")Anemometers
Vane Anemometers
Heat a wire to a specified temperature
and then measure the rate of cooling.
This rate is proportional to air speed.
Thermoelectric measurement provides fast
response times and excellent sensitivity
to very low air flows of <1 m/s but these
probes are also the most delicate of the two
types and are not suitable for environments
which are dusty, humid, corrosive, or
where there are rapid fluctuations in
the ambient temperature, all of which
effect the rate of cooling. These
anemometers cover ranges of
0.01 m/s ~ 5 m/s.
Work on the principle that a
freely turning turbine will rotate
at a speed directly proportional
to the wind speed. Vane
Anemometers cover ranges as
low as 0.15 m/s and as high
as 40 m/s, or even higher by
special order. Useful for a wide
variety of applications including
relatively harsh environments.
Thresholds are not as low as with
thermoelectric anemometers
since the vane must overcome
initial friction before it will turn.
Psychrometer/Anemometer
This unique instrument combines the features
of an anemometer and a psychrometer
Measures air speed, air volume, BTU (British Thermal Units), air temperature, dew point, wet
bulb, and humidity. Also calculates air volume and BTU capacity. Excellent for HVAC, IAQ
and environmental work. Auto ranging with air velocity in m/s or ft/s, air volume in CFM
or m3/sec and temperature in °C or °F. Features min/max/ave, hold, auto power off, LCD
backlight and a computer interface. The probe detaches for easy replacement and repair. Comes
in a hard carrying case complete with a probe, tripod mounting screw and 4 AAA batteries.

R e l a t i v e H u m i d i t y ( %)
Te m p e r a t u r e ( ° F )
Government organizations such as OSHA have set recommended heat stress limits for various activities. The most accurate
determination of the heat stress index based on the cumulative effect of air temperature, air movement, relative humidity, and radiant
heat. Our meters continually monitor all heat stress indicators: Air Temperature, RH, Heat Index, Dew Point, Wet Bulb, and Wet
Bulb Globe Temperature.
The heat index is a simple tool and a useful guide for employers making decisions about protecting workers in hot weather. It does not
account for certain conditions that contribute additional risk, such as physical exertion, working in the direct sun (which can add up
to 15°F to the heat index value), or wearing heavy clothing or protective gear.

A B O U T H E AT S T R E S S
If workers must wear heavy protective clothing, perform strenuous activity or work in the direct sun, additional precautions are
recommended to protect workers from heat-related illness.
In addition to the steps listed above:
91°F ~ 103°F
Moderate
• Remind workers to drink water often (about 4 cups/hour)**
• Review heat-related illness topics with workers: how to recognize heat-related illness, how to prevent it, and what to do if
someone gets sick
• Schedule frequent breaks in cool, shaded area
• Acclimatize workers
• Set up buddy system/instruct supervisors to watch workers for signs of heat-related illness
If workers must wear heavy protective clothing, perform strenuous activity or work in the direct sun, additional precautions are
recommended to protect workers from heat-related illness.
• Schedule activities at a time when the heat index is lower
• Develop work/rest schedules
• Monitor workers closely
In addition to the steps listed above:
103°F ~ 115°F
High
• Alert workers of high risk conditions
• Actively encourage workers to drink plenty of water (about 4 cups/hour)**
• Limit physical exertion (e.g. use mechanical lifts)
•H
ave a knowledgeable person at the work site who is well-informed about heat-related illness and able to determine
appropriate work/rest schedules
• Establish and enforce work/rest schedules
• Adjust work activities (e.g., reschedule work, pace/rotate jobs)
• Use cooling techniques
• Watch/communicate with workers at all times
When possible, reschedule activities to a time when heat index is lower
Reschedule non-essential activity for days with a reduced heat index or to a time when the heat index is lower
Move essential work tasks to the coolest part of the work shift; consider earlier start times, split shifts, or evening and night shifts.
> 115°F
Very High
to Extreme
Strenuous work tasks and those requiring the use of heavy or non-breathable clothing or impermeable chemical protective clothing
should not be conducted when the heat index is at or above 115°F.
If essential work must be done, in addition to the steps listed above:
• Alert workers of extreme heat hazards
• Establish water drinking schedule (about 4 cups/hour)**
• Develop and enforce protective work/rest schedules
• Conduct physiological monitoring (e.g., pulse, temperature, etc)
• Stop work if essential control methods are inadequate or unavailable.
**Under most circumstances, fluid intake should not exceed 6 cups per hour or 12 quarts per day. This makes it particularly important to reduce work rates, reschedule work, or
enforce work/rest schedules.
Sourced from OSHA: https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/heatillness/heat_index/protective_measures.html
The Heat Index is a measure of how hot weather "feels" to the body. The table uses relative humidity and air temperature to produce the
"apparent temperature" or the temperature the body "feels." These values are for shady locations only. Exposure to full sunshine can
increase heat index values by up to 15°F. Also, strong winds, particularly with very hot, dry air, can be extremely hazardous as the wind adds
heat to the body.

Light Meters Lux/FC
How Light Meters Work
CONVENIENT LIGHTING LEVELS
FOR VARIOUS APPLICATIONS
Fast, stable and accurate response
Most meters consist of a body, a photo cell and a readout. The light
that falls on the photo cell has energy. This energy is transferred by
the photo cell into electric current. The amount of current generated
depends on the amount of light striking the cell. The meter then reads
the electrical current and calculates the appropriate value of either Lux
or foot-candles.
OFFI CES
Light Meter Lux 840006
A key thing to remember about light is that it is usually made up
of many different types (colors) of light at different wavelengths.
The reading, therefore, is a result of the combined effects of all the
wavelengths. A standard color can be referred to as color temperature,
and is expressed in degrees Kelvin. The standard color temperature for
calibration of most light meters is 2856 degrees Kelvin, which is more
yellow than pure white.
Different types of bulbs burn at different color temperatures. Sper
Scientific meter readings will, therefore, vary with different light
sources of the same intensity. This is why some lights seem “harsher”
than others. See the chart to the right for suggested lighting levels for
various applications.
Light Meter Units of Measure
Light can be quantified in many ways, i.e., Lux, Lumens, foot-candles,
candle power, candelas, and so on. The two most popular scales are
Lux, which is the European measure, and foot-candles, which is the
U.S. scale. Lux is a unit of illumination of one square meter, which is
one meter away from a uniform light source. 1 candela = 1 Lux. Foot
candles are a unit of illumination of one square foot which is one foot,
away from a uniform light source.

It is the region between ultraviolet and infrared region which can be further subdivided into seven colors. Due to a
certain frequency and energy values, it can be seen by human eyes and useful for us. The spectrum of visible region
starts from red color and ended at violet color. The red color lies close to infra-red and violet color close to ultraviolet
region. As we move from red to violet, the wavelength decreases and energy increases.

Sound Meter
How Sound Meters Work
Sound level meters measure sound pressure (waves) by taking sound in through a microphone and processing it with a filter. This
filter gives a “weighting” to the frequencies which make up the sound. The “weighted” intensity of the sound is then expressed in
decibels (dB) by the meter. The weightings normally found on sound meters are “A” and “C”. “A” weighting is the standard filter
used by most regulatory agencies. See the chart to the below for the frequency weightings for the “A” and “C” filters on Sper
Scientific sound meters.

Digital Radiation Meter
Small and light enough to go anywhere, yet sensitive enough
to detect minuscule amounts of gamma, beta or X-rays
Uses a Geiger-Muller tube detector for scanning lab work areas and clothing for traces of
radioactivity after clean up. Operation is simple enough for use in science education. Also
excellent for emergency responders, mining, Hazmat or any area of potential radiation
exposure. The meter emits a chirping sound with each count that increases with radiation
intensity. A loud 95 dB audible alarm can be set at any point within the meter’s range.
Adjustable auto power off prolongs battery life and can also be disabled. The 9V battery
lasts 50 hours at normal background levels. Indicates when the battery is low or the reading
is over range. Each unit comes in a soft carrying case with a battery and a certificate of
compliance indicating that it has been tested in a Cs-137 field for two points of linearity
and overall operation. N.I.S.T. Traceable Certificate of Calibration available.

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) is a
management system in which food safety is addressed through
the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical
hazards from raw material production, procurement and
handling, to manufacturing, distribution and consumption of
the finished product.
HACCP has been increasingly applied to industries other
than food, such as cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. This
method, which in effect seeks to plan out unsafe practices
based on science, differs from traditional “produce and sort”
quality control methods that do nothing to prevent hazards
from occurring and must identify them at the end of the
process. HACCP is focused only on the health safety issues
of a product and not the quality of the product, yet HACCP
principles are the basis of most food quality and safety
assurance systems, and the United States, HACCP compliance
is regulated by 21 CFR part 120 and 123.
High risk foods are foods where bacteria may multiply if stored at
the wrong temperature. Bacteria will grow and multiply between
5°C ~ 60°C so this is the danger zone to avoid.

ABOUT IR THERMOMETERS
Thermocouple Probes
Sper Scientific Thermocouple Probes are compatible with any Type K or Type J Thermocouple Thermometer.
The primary difference between Type J and Type K thermocouples is the measuring range, and the sensitivity.
Type K is the most common general purpose thermocouple with a sensitivity of approximately 41 µV/°C. A wide
variety of probes are available in its −200 ~ 1350°C / -330 ~ 2460°F range. Type K wire color standard is yellow (+)
and red (-). Type J has a more restricted range than type K (−40 ~ 750°C), but higher sensitivity of about 50 µV/°C.
Type J wire color standard is white (+) and red (-).
All probes carry a 6 month warranty.

How IR Thermometers Work
Distance to Spot Ratio
An infrared thermometer is a thermometer which infers temperature
from a portion of the thermal radiation emitted by the object being
measured. They are sometimes called laser thermometers if a laser
is used to help aim the thermometer, or non-contact thermometers
or temperature guns, to describe the device’s ability to measure
temperature from a distance. By knowing the amount of infrared
energy emitted by the object and its emissivity, the object’s temperature
can often be determined.
The actual area being measured is determined by the
distance-to-spot ratio of the IR thermometer you are
using and this varies from model to model. As the
distance from the object being measured increases, the
spot size of the area being measured also increases.
The most basic design consists of a lens to focus the infrared thermal
radiation on to a detector, which converts the radiant power to an
electrical signal that can be displayed in units of temperature after
being compensated for ambient temperature. This configuration
facilitates temperature measurement from a distance without contact
with the object to be measured. As such, the infrared thermometer
is useful for measuring temperature under circumstances where
thermocouples or other probe type sensors cannot be used or do not
produce accurate data for a variety of reasons.
They can be used to serve a wide variety of temperature monitoring
functions. A few examples include:

Sling Psychrometer
Mason's Hygrometer
Red Liquid
Obtain fast and accurate
humidity readings anywhere by
comparing the reading of the
wet and dry bulb thermometers
on the enclosed humidity
chart. Eliminates the hazard of
splattering mercury by using a
safe and easy to read red liquid.
The thermometers are recessed
into a protective plastic mounting. The mounting also
contains a water reservoir eliminating the need to
constantly rewet the wick. Comes with a carrying case
and plastic humidity chart.
21
One thermometer bulb is kept
constantly wet by a siphon
reservoir while the other gives a dry
temperature reading. Humidity
is obtained by comparing the two
readings on the enclosed chart. The
red liquid masons hygrometer uses
a safe and easy to read red liquid in
place of the usual mercury. Dual
scales of -10/50°C and 10/120°F.

When atmospheric pressure
rises, the liquid in the indicator

Solids can be found in nature in a dissolved form. Salts that
dissolve in water break into positively and negatively charged
ions. Conductivity is the ability of water to conduct an
electrical current, and the dissolved ions are the conductors.
The major positively charged ions are sodium, calcium,
potassium and magnesium. The major negatively charged ions
are chloride, sulfate, carbonate, and bicarbonate. Nitrates and
phosphates are minor contributors to conductivity, although
they are very important biologically.
Salinity is a measure of the amount of salts in the water.
Because dissolved ions increase salinity as well as conductivity,
the two measures are related. The salts in sea water are
primarily sodium chloride. However, other saline waters, owe
their high salinity to a combination of dissolved ions including
sodium, chloride, carbonate and sulfate.
What are the Typical Ranges?
Easy to carry and simple to operate
Conductivity of Water
Highly stable and accurate readings with large LCD display. Designed for simple one-hand
operation. Simultaneously displays the parameter being measured and temperature in
°C or °F. Features automatic temperature compensation, 2-pt. calibration, auto power off,
hold function, and a low battery indicator. The case is IP65 waterproof, and will float if
accidentally dropped into the water. Comes with 4 button-cell batteries and a built-in probe
with protective cap. EPA Equivalency Method: 120.1.

The table above shows some ranges of conductivity values
you might encounter in the field. Conductivity can be
much higher than the maximum values shown above
under special conditions in some waters, for examples:
• rivers or drainage ditches dominated by
subsurface agricultural return flows,
Why is it Important?
• ephemeral streams or pools late in the season,
Salts and other substances affect the quality of water used for
irrigation or drinking. They also have a critical influence on
aquatic biota, and every kind of organism has a typical salinity
range that it can tolerate. Moreover, the ionic composition
of the water can be critical. For example, cladocerans (water
fleas) are far more sensitive to potassium chloride than sodium
chloride at the same concentration.
• tidally influenced coastal waters, and
Conductivity will vary with water source: ground water,
water drained from agricultural fields, municipal waste water,
rainfall. Therefore, conductivity can indicate groundwater
seepage or a sewage leak.

Pens
Pens are easy to carry, simple to operate, inexpensive,
and also provide digital resolution and accuracy not
available with test strips. For most applications, a pen
will fulfill the need for precise, reliable measurements.
They are available with higher or lower resolutions
and accuracies, and are priced accordingly. All are
waterproof and float if accidentally dropped into water.
Portable Meters
When seeking additional functions, such as datalogging
and computer output, a portable meter’s larger case,
keypad and display enable more complex menus,
functions and outputs. Despite these sophisticated
features, portable meters are still compact enough to
be carried in the field. They accept a wide variety of
replaceable electrodes, including detachable probes
reading ATC, Conductivity, DO, mV, ORP (oxygen
reduction potential) and Salinity.
Benchtop Meters
Benchtop meters are preferable for long-term lab tests. They
offer larger display than portable meters, an adjustable
electrode holder arm, and can be permanently connected to
AC power and a computer.

What are Total Dissolved Solids?
Total dissolved solids (TDS) combine the sum of all ion particles that are smaller than 2 microns (0.0002 cm). This includes
all of the disassociated electrolytes that make up salinity concentrations, as well as other compounds such as dissolved
organic matter. In “clean” water, TDS is approximately equal to salinity. In wastewater or polluted areas, TDS can include
organic solutes (such as hydrocarbons and urea) in addition to the salt ions. At most, freshwater can have 2000 mg/L of total
dissolved solids, and most sources should have much less than that.

Like terrestrial animals, fish and other aquatic organisms need oxygen to live. As
water moves past their gills (or other breathing apparatus), microscopic bubbles of
oxygen gas in the water, called dissolved oxygen (DO), are transferred from the
water to their blood. Like any other gas diffusion process, the transfer is efficient
only above certain concentrations. In other words, oxygen can be present in the
water, but at too low a concentration to sustain aquatic life. Oxygen also is needed
by virtually all algae and all macrophytes, and for many chemical reactions that
are important to lake functioning.
Freshwater Organisms and Dissolved Oxygen Requirements
Cold water fish are most affected by low dissolved oxygen levels. These fish
generally attempt to avoid areas where dissolved oxygen is less than 5 mg/L and
will begin to die if exposed to DO levels less than 3 mg/L for more than a couple
days. Dissolved oxygen levels below 11 mg/L will delay hatching, and below 8
mg/L will impair growth and lower survival rates.
Warm water fish depend on dissolved oxygen levels above 5 mg/L. They will
avoid areas where DO levels are below 3 mg/L, but generally do not begin to
suffer fatalities due to oxygen depletion until levels fall below 2 mg/L. The means
DO levels should remain near 5.5 mg/L for optimum growth and survival.
Saltwater Organisms and Dissolved Oxygen Requirements
Saltwater fish and organisms have a higher tolerance for low dissolved oxygen
concentrations as saltwater has a lower 100% air saturation than freshwater. In
general, dissolved oxygen levels are about 20% less in seawater than in freshwater.
Many tropical saltwater fish require higher levels of DO, such as those
surrounding coral reefs. Coral reefs are found in the euphotic zone (where light
penetrates the water – usually not deeper than 70 m). Higher dissolved oxygen
concentrations are generally found around coral reefs due to photosynthesis and
aeration from eddies and breaking waves. These DO levels can fluctuate from
4-15 mg/L, though they usually remain around 5-8 mg/L, cycling between day
photosynthesis production and night plant respiration. In terms of air saturation,
this means that dissolved oxygen near coral reefs can easily range from 40-200%.

pH stands for the “power of hydrogen”. It is a determined value based on a defined scale, similar to temperature. This means
that pH of water is not a physical parameter that can be measured as a concentration or in a quantity. Instead, it measures
the acidity/alkalinity of a solution on a scale of 1 ~ 14 defining how acidic or basic a body of water is along a logarithmic
scale. The lower the number, the more acidic the water is. The higher the number, the more basic it is. A pH of 7 is considered
neutral. The logarithmic scale means that each number below 7 is 10 times more acidic than the previous number when
counting down. Likewise, when counting up above 7, each number is 10 times more basic than the previous number. pH is
a common measure of water quality used in environmental testing, food & beverages, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and other
fields. Three basic styles of pH meters are available for varying applications.
• Measures DO (Dissolved Oxygen)
in either % saturation, ppm or mg/L.
• Accepts corrections for salinity and
barometric pressure.
• Automatic calibration to air.
• Recalls slope and last calibration.
Includes AquaShock ® DO Meter 850046;
AC adaptor; manual; warranty card; probe
input covers; ATC DO probe with 10' cable;
protective, foam-lined, hard-shell carrying case.
The logarithmic scale of pH means that as pH increases, the H+ concentration will decrease by a power of 10. Thus at a pH of 0, H+ has a
concentration of 1 M. At a pH of 7, this decreases to 0.0000001 M. At a pH of 14, there is only 0.00000000000001 M H+.
AquaShock ® is virtually unbreakable, eliminating the inconvenience of frequent instrument
repair or replacement for at least 5 years of uninterrupted, accurate, reliable use.

If the pH of water is too high or
too low, the aquatic organisms
living within it will die. pH can
also affect the solubility and
toxicity of chemicals and heavy
metals in the water. While humans
have a higher tolerance for pH
levels (drinkable levels range from
4-11 with minimal gastrointestinal
irritation), there are still concerns.
pH values greater than 11 can
cause skin and eye irritations, as
does a pH below 4. A pH value
below 2.5 will cause irreversible
damage to skin and organ linings.
Lower pH levels increase the risk
of mobilized toxic metals that can
be absorbed, even by humans, and
levels above 8.0 cannot be effectively disinfected with chlorine, causing other indirect risks. In addition, pH levels outside
of 6.5-9.5 can damage and corrode pipes and other systems, further increasing heavy metal toxicity.

Calibration
All pH probes drift and should therefore be calibrated prior to any series of readings. Fortunately, calibration
is a simple process that uses standard pH buffer solutions. The user simply brackets the point he expects to measure
by calibrating to buffer solutions above and below that point. For example, if expecting a reading of about pH 6, one
would first calibrate the meter by placing the probe in a buffer of pH 7, and then pH 4. Many meters offer automatic
buffer recognition, which recognizes and calibrates to the buffer solution with the push of a button.
ATC (Automatic Temperature Compensation)
pH is directly related to temperature, e.g. the pH reading of the same solution will vary (slightly) according to its
temperature. This can be corrected manually or automatically. Manual correction requires the user to measure
the temperature of the solution with a thermometer and enter the results into the pH meter. The meter then
corrects the pH reading accordingly. Many pH meters and pH pens, however, feature automatic temperature
compensation. The ATC pH probe contains its own temperature sensor and the meter automatically corrects for
temperature without any input from the user.

data set includes pH, temperature, time and date. Features ATC (automatic temperature
compensation) or manual temperature adjustment, automatic buffer recognition, min/max,
auto power off, low battery indicator and hold function. This well-made unit is extremely
accurate with fast response times, and includes a fold-out easel back and a large easy-to-read
backlit LCD. Comes ready to use in a soft carrying case with 6 AA batteries, instruction
manual and a SD card. ATC temperature probe available as optional accessory.
Will accept any pH or ORP probe with a BNC connector. Probe not included.

Refractometers are instruments used to measure substances dissolved in water and certain oils. The refractometer
works using the principle of light refraction through liquids. As light passes from air into a liquid it slows down. This
phenomenon is what gives a “bent” look to objects that are partially submerged in water. To put it simply, the more
dissolved solids water contains, the slower the light travels through it, and the more pronounced the “bending” effect on
light. Refractometers use this principle to determine the amount of dissolved solids in liquids by passing light through a
sample and showing the refracted angle on a scale. The scale most commonly used is referred to as the Brix scale. The Brix
scale is defined as: the number of grams of pure cane sugar dissolved in 100 grams of pure water (grams sugar/100 grams
H2O). Other scales have been developed to measure salt, serum proteins (albumen) and urine specific gravity.

Sugar/Brix Refractometer 0 ~ 32% - 300001
Sper Scientific portable refractometers work in ambient light with no battery or
other power source necessary. They can be used in labs, on production lines, in the
field or anywhere. Simply place a drop or two of a sample on the prism and read the
results immediately. With reasonable care, their reliability, precision, and optical
performance will last forever. All Sper Scientific refractometers come complete with:
he most popular refractometer range due to its usefulness
in a wide variety of quality control applications for the
sugar content of fruit, fruit juices, wine, milk, soft drinks
and yeast cultures solutions. Also used for industrial
cutting, lubricating, soluble tempering oils and
emulsifications solutions.
• Rubber coated hand grip and construction, which insulate the test
solution from inaccuracies caused by the body heat of the user.
Sugar Refractometer 28 ~ 62% - 300002
• Covered eye piece and bright, clearly defined scale, with large
easy-to-read measurements.
Use to test solutions with a higher sugar content, such as
fruit juice concentrates, canned fruits conatining added
sugar, or ketchup as well as for egg yolk.
• A ll the accessories for immediate use, including calibration tools and
solutions, full instructions, transfer pipettes and protective cases.
Brix refractometers, which are also called sugar refractometers, are commonly used
in the food and beverage, agriculture and wine industries. Fruit farmers will use
a refractometer to check the sugar content of fruit on the vine to determine the
best time for harvesting. Similarly, grocers and other fruit purchasers will use brix
values to determine how much they are willing to spend. It is the latter application
for which this Sper Scientific handheld sugar – brix refractometer is an ideal
measurement instrument for the food and beverage industry.
Certificate of Calibration available on all models except 300005 and 300014.

Purpose of the Program:
There is an increasing requirement
by customers for documentation
supporting manufacturer's claims of
accuracy on their scientific equipment.
This is partially due to the increasing acceptance of
quality standards, such as ISO 9000* and GMP**,
which require that periodic certification of test
equipment be performed and documented. We at
Sper Scientific believe this trend is highly justified. To
help, we have instituted this program of certification.
Most testing is done in-house with our own state-ofthe-art equipment. Whenever possible and practical,
we use N.I.S.T. traceable equipment and N.I.S.T.
procedures.
* ISO 9002 1987 (E) Section 4.10
** FDA Good Manufacturing Practices Section 820.61
To Order:
Simply add the suffix "C" to the regular catalog
number. For example, Timer 810026 becomes
810026C in its certified version.
Please note: Certifications are pre-pay only.
Delivery:
The certification process may take up to two weeks,
and products are promptly shipped once completed.

GREEN POLICY
Complete Documentation:
Each certified product comes with:
• A serial number
• A calibration or certification label
•O
ne of three certificates. The type
of certificate varies by product:
"Certificate of Compliance"
Specifies that the product has been tested
and found to be within its stated tolerance
for accuracy.
"Certificate of Calibration"
Similar to above, but for products which can be
adjusted to the standard they are tested against.
"Certificate Traceable to N.I.S.T."
Specifies that the standards against which the
product has been certified or calibrated were
themselves calibrated by the National Institute of
Standards and Technology (N.I.S.T.), or with N.I.S.T.
calibrated equipment under conditions specified
by N.I.S.T.
Sper Scientific Green Policy:
Reduce Waste:
We are committed to maintaining
and enhancing the integrity of the
environment and the world we live
in. Our goal is to achieve customer
satisfaction while maintaining the trust of all of our
stakeholders now and for generations to come.
Maintain Compliance:
At Sper Scientific, we do our best to ensure that
the products we carry conform to or exceed
relevant standards such as:
Restriction on Hazardous
Substances Directive (RoHS)
CE
By doing so, we strive to minimize our impact on
the Earth by eliminating toxic materials from our
manufactured goods, and by using recyclable
materials wherever possible.
Purchase Green:
Like all companies, our purchasing decisions are
influenced by costs. However, this is by no means
the only factor we consider. At Sper Scientific,
we make a conscious effort to ensure that we
are purchasing from sustainable sources and
choosing products that reduce the impact we
have on the environment.
Sper Scientific addresses waste reduction by
consuming and throwing away less, by purchasing
durable, long-lasting goods, and seeking products
and packaging that are free of toxic and nonbiodegradable materials. Other ways we seek to
reduce waste include:
Packaging — Whenever possible, we reuse every
carton that comes into our facility for shipping
products to our customers.
Electronic Communications — Unless our
customers absolutely demand otherwise,
we send all our quotes, invoices and other
communications via email. This reduces paper
waste as well as fuel emissions from delivery.
Reduced Printing — It is company policy that any
document that does not need to be printed be
created in electronic format only.
Paper Reuse — Paper that has already been
printed on, but no longer holds value based on
its content, is reused for fax and copy machines,
and is also bound and used as office notebooks.
Paper that contains confidential information, or
that is printed on each side, is shredded and used
as packing material.
